Turriff Show 2025

What a wonderful show in such a beautiful area of the country. The weather was not on our side and my congratulations go to the hard working committee for their efforts. I understand that the storm put pay to the second day of the show. Such a pity.

Hound Group

Beagle

Post grad (4,3 abs)

1 Matthew’s Carvaha Barney Rumble

Well grown 8 month old with well-shaped head, good layback of shoulder and good rear angulation. Moved well for one so young especially showing reach in profile. Best of Breed

Open (3,2)

1 Matthew’s Carahava Fire N Ice

Mature tricolour girl with plenty to like. Balanced head with good eyes and well placed ears. Well ribbed with enough width and reasonable depth. In good body and carried her tail correctly. Just preferred the front assembly of her kennel mate here.

SH Dachs

Grad (2) two 8 month old sisters very similar in type and construction. Just felt the winner had the edge on hind movement today.

1 Kay’s Lochlip Written in the Stars

Lovely head for a youngster with good ear placement. Long neck leads to firm top line. Good length of body and well proportioned quarters. Moving well, particularly from behind.

2 Kay’s Lochlip Beyond the Stats

So similar to her sister and plenty of the same qualities. May be a tad longer in body. Moved well but not quite as positive behind here.

Open (4, 1)

1 Kay’s The Hinks Dream Speed of Sound at Lochlip

Quality 18 months B/T male. Balanced in head with dark eyes and good length of jaw. Strong front with plenty of forechest and elbows neatly placed. Good layback of shoulder. He has length and depth to his body and well developed quarters. Moving to advantage, especially in profile he took BOB here.

2 Swanson, Morgan and Morton’s Lauralee Lannister at Cotherstone

Another good one. Mature 4-year-old, well-constructed with good length of neck and well laid shoulders. Well ribbed and firm in top line, he has good width o thigh and correct length of hock.

3 Ratkeviciene’s Majestic Miss Fortune Ringo Letenele

Mini SH Dachs

Post Grad (2,1)

1 Kay’s Lochlip Pumpkin Pie

Two years old but still quite raw. She is well put together, having a good head, dark eyes and well placed ears. She has a long neck and good length of ribs. She moved tidily coming towards me but was a little tense which tended to spoil the picture in profile.

Open (3,1)

1 Whyte’s Dachienne Strawberry Swing

Well bodied 4 year old with a good head, dark eyes and well set ears. Long in neck with good layback of shoulder. Plenty of width to the front allowing for a well-developed fore chest. Well ribbed with good depth and length. Firm over the loins and good width to the quarters. Moved well there and back. Best of Breed.

2 Kay’s Clentry Little Boy

Just 2 and also good in head. He has a good reach of neck and a firm level top line. Well-developed quarters. Not as steady on the move as the winner here.

Basset Hounds

Post grad (3,1)

1 Retson’s Kensesqui Whitebeech

Lovely tri girl with good length to her head and strong jaws. Kind expression and good ear placement. She is well ribbed and has a good set on of tail. Moving well at times but a little inconsistent on this ground. Looked well.

2 Retson’s Pawpack Suzie Scrabble

Heavier type but balanced through. Balanced head with strong neck of good length. Strong quarters of good width. A little erratic on the move.

Open (3,2)

1 Cruikshank’s Burnvale Dazzling Diamond at Culsalmond

Mature girl in lovely body and gleaming coat. Well shaped head with enough stop and slight wrinkle. Dark eyes and low set ears. Strong well boned front of good width. Strong quarters with developed muscle and correct tail set. Moved straight and true. Best of Breed.

Deerhound

Post Grad (2)

1 Swanson’s Altimarlach Balnabruich

Presented a super outline and moved with the desired ease and long strides. Good length of head with high ear placement. Strong neck leading nicely into well laid shoulders. Deep enough in chest. She has good rear angulation.

2 Harvey’s Kilbourne Aoife

Another good one. Good head with strong neck and well ribbed back. Good rear angulation. Moving straight and true. Close up but preferred the shoulder placement and top line of the winner today.

Open (2)

1 Swanson’s Zeldini Oren of Altimarlach

Lovely headed girl with good depth of chest and well balanced in body. Good top line with slight rise over the loin. She has god length form hip to hock and is short form hock to heel enabling her to move straight and true with plenty of reach from behind. Best of Breed.

2 Spence’s Caraidanam Bruach Na Frithe at Brylach

Another with a well-proportioned head, correct ears and strong neck of good length. Correct top line and well angulated quarters. Just preferred the more positive hind action of the winner here.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Grad (2)

1 Field’s Kalabaney Highland Lass

Promising puppy who moved well when settled. Well grown with plenty of bone but still balanced through. Good head shape with dark eyes. Strong neck leading to well angulated shoulders and straight front. Moderate rear angulation and in good muscular condition for a youngster.

2 Scanlon’s Kinabula’s Beat of My Heart

Only just a junior and plenty to like about her. Balanced in head which will improve as she develops. Strong neck and straight front. Elbows neatly tucked in. Well ribbed with good length of body. A little erratic on the move here.

Open (2)

1 Field’s Jelany Red Florencia at Kalabaney

This 6 year old presented a lovely outline standing and did not disappoint on the move. Well proportioned head with strong jaw and dark eyes. Strong neck of good length fits well into sloping shoulders. Well ribbed with strong loins and good width to her quarters. Best of Breed and later group 4.

2 Scanlon’s Kinabula’s All About The Bass

At eight years, is looking fit and well when standing. Well shaped head with good ear placement and strong neck. Well developed in body with enough width to her ribs. She is firm over the loins. Just not cooperating on the move here.

AV Hound

NSC Open (3,1)

Such a pity that these two had to meet here as both were worthy of group places today.

1 Phillips’ Saluki Ch Luachmhar Jamilah

Immediate eye catcher as soon as she entered the ring. My notes say “spot on all through”, and that is how I saw her here. Balanced and graceful in outline. She has good length to her skull and well shaped eyes. Long neck and sloping shoulders. Straight in front with slightly sloping pasterns. Balanced in body with well angulated quarters. Her hocks are low giving that reach on the move. Best NSC and Group 1. A pleasure to judge.

2 Cruikshank’s Bloodhound Wychway Crowns Ghillie Gins Island at Culsalmond

Another with plenty to admire. Noble in appearance and so good to go over. Good length of head with strong jaw and dark brown eyes. Good length of neck. Sloping shoulders lead to a straight, well boned front with deep keel. She is well ribbed and has good width to her quarters.

Minor Puppy (3)

1 Kalabaney Highland Lass

2 Carvaha Barney Rumble

3 Lark’s Basenji Shyllar Turning Tables

Puppy (2,1)

1 Shyllar Turning Tables

Third in the previous class. Very pretty and promising Basenji of 7 months. Expressive head. Straight in front, Good top line and tail set, just needs to settle and mature. Should go on to do well.

Veteran (10, 6)

1 Thomson’s Basset Zanabek Cautious

Belying veteran status at ten years. In good body and moving so well. Good head with dark eyes and good ear placement. Well ribbed with good length and depth. Firm over the loins. Well developed quarters with good muscular development. Covered the ring efficiently.

2 Phillips’ Saluki Ch Vidana Amiras Berega Turi

Mother of my group winner. Easy to see that quality has been passed on. At 9 years, is a credit to her owners. Refined in outline yet still showing alertness and strength. She is in first class order and moved well here.

3 Ballantyne’s Whippet Speymalt Aurora Equinox

Open (10,4)

1 Thomson’s Basset Rakefoot Charazard

2 Kilbourne Aoife

3 Brander’s Whippet Windwalker Heart of Gold

Hound Group

Winner of a very competitive group was the Saluki Ch Luachmhar Jamilah followed by the Mini SH Dachs, Deerhound and Ridgeback. I later found out that the Saluki was repeating his win form the previous year. Well done.
