What a super-friendly welcome from the Long family and their lovely committee at the excellent Marlborough Open show. Everything ran like clockwork, no lengthy gaps in judging order and the Groups being called in good time, coupled with an efficient Steward, made for a lovely days’ judging.

Thank you for the invitation, I really enjoyed it!

From a pleasing line-up for BIS, for me, ultimately it was a bit of a ‘3-horse race’ between the Basset Fauve De Bretagne, Bull Terrier and the winner, the ultra-feminine Siberian Husky, Ch. Winter Melody Triple Trouble At Amical. Having judged her previously and awarded her high honours, she appeals to my eye. Liked her size, excellent head piece complimented with the correct eye shape and set. Her handler gets every inch out of her, using her ears to enhance her ‘keen’ outlook. Reachy neck, athletic body, moderate angles and an excellent mover, so light and functional on her feet. In super coat and condition, couldn’t be denied the top spot on the day. RBIS the excellently- headed Bull Terrier female, Teirwgwyn Miss Hazel Of Waybully. Her head really appealed with the correct amount of length, strength and smoothness of contour. Loved her outline on the stack with typical ‘angles and action’ for the breed in front and rear, muscular body and powerful. Full of ‘Bully’ bounce and temperament. Just Loved her!

From a promising line-up of pups, saw the excellent Irish Terrier triumphant. Newguild Royale has the correct racy outline, excelling in head properties and good height to length proportions. Scissor bite with large teeth. Excellent ear set and carriage. Good colour and harsh coat. Very sound and won here with a bit to spare. Must have a bright future. RBPIS the W/H Dachs, Tendrow Down To The Wire. A lovely youngster. Liked his outline, sound conformation with functional ground clearance, typical head, super coat and moved very freely, totally sound from every angle. Another showing much potential.

BVIS. The excellent 10 year old W/H Dachs female, Ch. Boloria’s Trick Or Treat. A beautiful Dachs from any angle, lovely to go over on the table. Good overall height to length proportions, holding a firm topline on the move and moving with a sound, easy with good depth of stride. Beautifully, handled and in excellent form. Beat some other lovely contenders on the day.

AV MP Stakes

1st Whinfoss Kesanlevisto At Lapinruska. Just approaching 9 month old Finnish Lapphund female. Lovely outline and correct wedge head shape, defined stop and well proportioned with muzzle. Good ear set of medium size, used to advantage. Well developed in chest for her age. Strong body. Moderate in angulation. Excellent puppy coat of an attractive colour. Holds her tail correctly on the move. Moved soundly.

2nd Elgert Blackpink. 7 month old Field Spaniel female. Lovely outline and relatively balanced for her age. Pleasing in head, gorgeous dark eye giving a melting expression. Good angle to shoulder with upperarm to compliment. Holds her topline firm. Well angled rear. Moved well, just needs to tighten -up a bit which will come with maturity. Sympathetically handled.

3rd Roxmarr Grand Stand At Zoant. Pug.

Puppy Stakes

1st Sonham Just A Pretty Belle. Pointer. A classy youngster that appealed with her clean-cut outline and graceful curves. Good head and eye. Reachy neck leading to a well angled front. Slightly sloping, firm backline. Muscular loins. Powerful rear that she used well on the move. Most promising.

2nd Tendrow Down To The Wire. W/H Dachs. See BPIS critique.

3rd Meisan Roly Poly Angelo. Old English Sheepdog.

Junior Stakes

1st Vardenais Hot As Hell. Loved this young red Min Pin. Balanced in outline, compact but with enough bone and stands on excellent tight feet. Typical head, correct eye shape, dark and giving an inquisitive expression. Lovely to go over with good angles either end. Moved around the ring with typical breed gait.

2nd Manzart Boom Boom Pow. Just over a year, a well-grown Dobermann male. Masculine without coarseness. Nicely balanced and together for his age. Understandably, for a youngster, still needs to drop in chest and generally mature all through. Excellent topline. Moderate angulation. Correct round bone. High tail set. Moved with a typical ‘elastic’ gait, sound in all directions.

3rd Angelrain Dark Prince. Bernese Mountain Dog.

Grad. Stakes

1st Boloria Oh Darling. Loved this W/H Dachs female. Good outline with strength to bone and stands on functional feet. Pleasing in head shape, muscular neck. Excellent keel. Strong topline. Powerful quarters. Sound mover. Presented in immaculate coat and condition, as is the norm from this exhibitor. Won here well.

2nd Volgarus Make A Choice At Jomarnelli. Black Std. Poodle female. Impressive in outline. Compact shape. Pleasing in head and eye shape with that special ‘Poodle glint’ in her eye. Good reach of neck. Quality bone. Well angled rear. Moved well, just needs to tighten a bit coming towards. Excellent coat in texture and well presented.

3rd Barbelka Dauntless Spirit. Norwegian Elkhound.

Open Stakes

1st Ch. Witchstone Raindance Avec Richpin. Smart English Toy Terrier. At full maturity and firm in body and condition. Scores in many breed points, appealing in head shape with correctly-set ‘candle-flame’ ears. Moved well over a difficult floor surface. Keen showman giving his best for his handler.

2nd Ch. Mochras Mahgaux. Basset Fauve De Bretagne. Super female and so typical of her breed. Appeals in head with well set ears of good length. Medium neck. Good front with strong, functional bone. Good length to height ratio. Excellent rear angles. Scopey stride from profile, close-up here, just a fraction close going away on the day. Excellent harsh coat. Excellent handling and presentation.

3rd Sh Ch Elgert Private Dancer. Field Spaniel.

Veteran Stakes.

1st Whitleara Truly Scrumpy. Loved the curvy outline and feminine outlook on this beautiful 10 year old Whippet female. Pleasing in head. Excellent reach of neck. Excellent topline with a slight raise over strong loin. Quality all through. Good rear angulation. Moved well in all directions., plenty of reach and drive with typical ‘daisy-cutting’ action.

2nd Duckhills Thistledown Dance Of Emmi Over Twybrook. Delightful Kooikerhondje. 9 years old and enjoying every minute in the ring, a credit to her handler. Functional in outline. Correct head and muzzle shape with moderate stop and well set ears, amply feathered. Medium neck. Fit in body. Moderate rear. Good tail set giving correct carriage on the move. Good markings and rich colour. Free mover and deserved her place in this good line-up.

3rd Cooleela Operation Dynamo Wightroche. Cocker Spaniel.
