Wiveliscombe and District Canine Society 11th January 2025

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at your show and thanks to the exhibitors for your entries. A big thank you also to my two stewards. It was very cold in the venue which affected some exhibits more than others.

Puppy (9, 2 abs)

Howgate and Hull’s Tervanty Dragon Song at Palmik. 6 month old fawn bitch. This young girl was an absolute delight to go over. She is excellent for size, and so well put together. Pretty and feminine head with slight stop and correct rose-shaped ears. Strong arched neck leading into well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. Correct bladed bone, slight spring of pastern and strong, well-knuckled feet. She naturally stands over a lot of ground. For her age, she has a good top and underline. Strong hind quarters with low hocks, which she used well on the move. Moved so well for her age. Best Puppy in Breed and I was delighted to hear she went Hound Puppy Group 1.

Trouton’s Citycroft Aphrodite of Runnel. 7 month old brindle bitch. Super feminine and ideal for size. Gorgeous head and expression with correct rose-shaped ears. Smooth, well laid back shoulders. Balanced angulation front and rear. Very shapely with a super top and underline. Moved soundly in all directions. Just needs a little time to mature and her day will come. Unlucky to meet 1 on the day.

Junior (3, 0 abs)

Foxwell’s Barnesmore The Lion King. 17 month old brindle dog. Masculine dog who is good for size and substance. Good head with a kind expression and strong under jaw. Strong, arched neck. Moderate angulation front and rear. Correct bladed bone and strong feet. Deep chest with plenty of heart room, good topline with a gentle rise over his loin. Good tuck-up. Well muscled hind quarters which he used well on the move. Moved very well in profile.

Livsey’s Saintharp Love to Believe. 7 month old brindle and white dog. Upstanding dog who’s going through a bit of a gangly stage. Handsome head with a gentle expression. Super curvy outline, with a matching top and underline. Well muscled hind quarters, would just prefer a little less length of second thigh. Moved well, especially for his age. Well handled.

Graduate (3, 1 abs)

Whitmore’s Kierpark Power of Love at Whitleara. 18 month old brindle bitch who really felt the cold today. Feminine head with a kind expression and rose-shaped ears. Good for size and substance. Moderate front angulation, with good bone, well-knuckled feet and slight spring of pastern. Presents a super curvy outline with ample depth of chest and plenty of heart room. Good width of thigh and well muscled. Moved well.

Durante’s Galemira’s Pandora of Duranridge. 4 year old brindle bitch. A very pretty bitch with a gorgeous head and the most melting expression. Slight stop, strong underjaw and correct ears. Long arched neck. Moderate front angulation. Good, well-knuckled feet. Correct topline with slight rise over the loin, and a matching underline. Strong hind quarters. Moved well. Just preferred depth of chest of 1.

Limit (2, 1 abs)

Lawrence and Woodward’s Bryntreia High Maintenance. 3 year old fawn and white. A very sweet boy of an excellent size and with no exaggerations whatsoever. Handsome head with a kind expression. Strong neck. Moderate front angulation. Good depth of chest and good fill in front. Curvy top and underline, with a good tuck-up. Moderately angulated hind quarters and low hocks. He was a little excited on the move, clearly enjoying his time in the ring with his handler!

Open Dog (2, 0 abs)

Livsey’s Bryntreia Sea of Love. 5 year old brindle and white dog who I have judged before. Masculine head with alert expression and rose shaped ears. Strong neck and smooth shoulders. Moderate front angulation. Correct bone and good feet. Lovely curvy topline and underline. Well ribbed back and strong loin. Naturally stands over a lot of ground. Strong hind quarters with low hocks. Moves well in all directions, very impressive profile movement. Reserve Best of Breed.

Samber’s Mithrandir Man of the World. 5 year old brindle and white dog. Sweet boy who is good for size. Well balanced angulation, front and rear. Strong neck leading into well laid back shoulders. Excellent depth of chest and good fill in front. Well developed hind quarters which he used well on the move. Moved soundly. Just preferred the slightly move curvy outline of 1.

Open Bitch (3, 2 abs)

Gallie’s Gwendariff Thanks A Latte. 9 year old fawn bitch who I have previously admired from the ringside. She just oozes femininity and is absolutely spot-on for size. I loved her for breed type, and there’s absolutely nothing exaggerated about her. Pretty head with slight stop and correct rose-shaped ears. Strong, arched neck leading into a good front assembly with elbows neatly tucked in. Slight spring of pastern. Good depth of chest. Curvy, matching top and underline. Moderate hind angulation with good width of thigh. Moved soundly in all directions. Carrying a little too much weight today and she is starting to show her age a little, but she is a quality bitch and I could not deny her Best of Breed. She was later shortlisted in the Hound Group.
