Gundog Club Of North Wales

Many thanks to the society for their kind invitation to judge this well run show and to the exhibitors who supported me. Thank you especially to my two stewards, Cheryl & Chris, who were extremely efficient.

1st & BOB Bullock’s Trixhund Shut that Door

A smart boy with a pleasing head. Ears set on correctly and of good length. Squarely made, good neck & shoulders, correct topline & tailset, well angulated rear. Decent bone and feet. Moved well.

Open (5 entries, 4 absent)

1st Bullock’s Trixhund This is my Destiny ShCEX

4 year old male with a lovely head. Eyes of good colour. He is well made all through and moved really well. I just preferred the youngster on the go around in the challenge for BOB.

Welsh Springer Spaniel

Puppy (2 entries)

1st, BOB & BP Harrison’s Twinkle Turning Heads (Imp Swe)

I really liked the shape and make of this 10 month old boy. He is balanced, nicely constructed and has good bone and feet. In gleaming condition, he was a little erratic on the move at first but soon settled to demonstrate excellent, sound, ground covering movement. He’s only going to get better too!

2nd. Harrison’s Glenbrows Aurora

Plainer than her flashier kennelmate who took the class but I preferred her head & expression. She is well made all through, just needs maturity to finish the picture. Moved well.

Junior (3 entries)

1st Harrison’s Twinkle Turning Heads (Imp Swe)

As prev.

2nd. Harrison’s Glenbrows Timeless

A pretty bitch presented in super condition. I liked her proportions and she is well angled fore and aft. Moved “enthusiastically”.

3rd. Philipson’s Menstonia Endless Dream

Post Graduate (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st. Harrison’s Twinkle Turning Heads (Imp Swe)

As prev

2nd. Harrison’s Glenbrows Time will Tell

Really pretty 10 month old. She scores in front angulation. Ribs well back, short loin, enough angulation behind. Moved well.

Import Register Gundog

Puppy (no entries)

Post Graduate (1 entry)

1st & BOB Langley’s Ammarante

Portuguese Pointer. This is a nice bitch with a pleasing head. She is nicely constructed and in lovely condition. She has good bone and feet but needs her nails trimming! She moved well but very obviously needed a bigger ring.

Open (0 entries)

Special Working Gundog Stakes (5 entries, 2 absent)

1st Thomas’ Chartan Little Black Dress

Gordon Setter. Very nice in outline and a lovely head. Good topline/tailset. Ribs well back, short loin. In lovely condition. Moved really well.

2nd. Simpson & Johnston’s Ekkolander Persephone Red at Leriton

Large Munsterlander. I liked her in profile but she is a little wide coming towards. Another in hard, fit muscular condition.

3rd. Playle & Thomas’ Riptide Gentlemens Relish

Veteran Stakes (15 entries, 8 absent)

1st & BVIS Adshead’s Sh Ch Afonbach Winter is Coming JW ShCEX OSW VW

What a super NSDTR this is. He is in fabulous condition and certainly doesn’t look like a veteran! He has a lovely head & expression, he is well constructed all through and he moved beautifully. He totally deserved to top this class.

2nd. Holehan’s Loganrish Let’s Go Crazy

I initially thought this handsome Irish Setter would win the class as he is so balanced and correct in outline. He has a good neck & shoulders, good topline and a well angulated rear. Moved well in profile, just close coming towards.

3rd. Loverock & Waldron-Smith’s Sh Ch Thornywait Space Cowboy at Lovissa JW

Puppy Stakes (16 entries, 9 entries)

1st. Stone’s Sonnetend Brothers in Arms

Field Spaniel. Easily the best mover in this class. He needs maturity but everything is where it needs to be. The most gorgeous head/expression. Super bone and feet. Presented in excellent condition and handled to his full potential.

2nd. Salt’s Cucrieff’s Ferntower Glen of Wetnoses

The first word I wrote in my notes for this boy is “naughty”! An exuberant FCR who was thoroughly enjoying his day out. He has an excellent head, dark eyes and in the fleeting moments where he stood still, he presented a really smart outline. Moved a touch erratically but he is sound.

3rd. Hooten’s Jorby Everlasting Love at Penticharm

Open Stakes (16 entries, 11 absent)

1st Broomfield, Mahon-Hunns & Newton’s Glaneils Daydream Believer

4 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever with a pleasing head/expression. Good neck & shoulders, correct topline, ribs well back, short loin and a strong rear. Coat of good texture. Moved really well, demonstrating accurate footfall.

2nd. Blythin’s Angelusparks V Practice Makes Perfect Julesville (Imp Prt)

Smart FCR. Masculine without coarseness. Particularly good forehand. Correct topline/tailset. Well angulated rear. Excellent muscletone. In gleaming condition. Moved well.

3rd. Williams & Gillard’s Bournehouse Romeo

AV Brace Stakes (7 entries, 5 absent)

1st. Donnelly’s GWPs

Both lovely examples of their breed, they moved in unison. In hard muscular condition and in excellent harsh coats.

2nd. Adshead’s NSDTR

A very nice pair who made a super brace. I just felt the GWPs were more harmonious on the move.

Best in Show

1 – IWS – Bradley’s Sh Ch Stanegate Stage Debut (AI) ShCEx

This 5 year old bitch just didn’t put a foot wrong. She has the most beautiful head & expression, good neck and shoulders with good return of upperarm. Correct topline & tailset, ribs well back, short loin and a strong rear. In excellent condition. Super coat. It would have been criminal to deny her the top spot today.

2 – CCR – Stephen’s Brightmeadow Rumour Has it JW

A handsome 2 year old presented in tip top condition. He is balanced, nicely constructed and in excellent coat. Moved really well.

3 – Field Spaniel – Moore’s Fantastic Field Shine Like a Diamond at Gadhelic JW (Imp Fin)

A very attractive 2 year old bitch. Well made all through and in gleaming condition. I liked her in profile and was delighted when she was just as good going away and coming towards.

4 – GWP – Turnbull & Keene’s Glenquin The Colonel at Elagram JW

The most beautiful head & expression. I wouldn’t want him any bigger but this is an impressive dog, in excellent jacket and with decent angles front and rear. He covered the ground with drive and accuracy. Made his handler work for this place!

Best Puppy in Show

1 – Cocker Spaniel – Harrison’s Glenbrows Galanthus

When this youngster was on the table, I knew it would be tough for any other puppy to get past him for BPIS. He has a super head, expression. Ears set on correctly and of good length. He is compact with big ribs and a short loin and he is well angulated front and rear. He moves beautifully and is presented in immaculate condition.

2 – Labrador Retriever – Gordon Smith’s Bruxinho Ginko Bilboa

This boy was just six months. So much to like about him. He is balanced, well constructed and show me his excellent, accurate ground covering movement. Super coat and in excellent fit condition.

3 – WSS – Harrison’s Twinkle Turning Heads (Imp Swe)

As prev.

4 – HWV – Byrne’s Enryb Purple People Eater

I wouldn’t want this handsome boy any bigger but I really liked the shape and make of him. He is so nicely put together and moves really accurately.
