Oswestry & District Kennel Association – 16th March 2025

Thank you to my stewards – they did a wonderful job. Oswestry is one of my favourite shows, I have lots of fond memories of this show. I was delighted to be asked to judge – thank you to the committee for the invitation. It is always a privilege to judge, thank you to all who entered.

Chinese Crested

Junior (1,0a)

1. Marina Akateal Keep The Faith with Marinbox

Stood alone, but he is a worthy winner. Well-presented 10 month powderpuff. Dark eye, tapering muzzle, good ears. Lean, long neck, balanced fore and aft. Deep chest. Happy on the move, moving soundly and freely. A promising puppy. In lovely condition. BOB BP.

Beagles

Open (3,0)

1. Webster Rossut Vizier For Houndscoast – Super temperament. This boy had lovely balance overall. Eyes set well apart, he has a pleasing expression. Elbows firm, well sprung ribs, level topline. In lovely body condition and muscle tone. He really came alive on the move with a free stride. Handled so well, you can see the wonderful rapport between the dog and the handler. BOB.

2. Greenough Bory Wood Tobias at Jalhar – 7 years old, enjoying the day. Pleasing in head, straight forelegs, good body and level topline. On the move he was a little close behind. RBOB.

3. Thomas Terina’s Man of Mischief.

Graduate (2,1a)

1. Kirjojax Thrilling Thistle – 10 months. This girl has an appealing head, dark eye. Good length of neck. Good fore chest. Strong, well angulated rear, great length from hip to hock. Compact and well knuckled feet. Harsh coat. An easy mover with correct tail carriage. Handled well. BOB, BP

Graduate (2,1wd)

1. Kehoe & Phillips Redcrown Celtic Queen – A taller girl, with good substance. She was a little hesitant today. Good head, round eyes, long neck. Would prefer more angulation. Moved soundly holding her topline but not giving her all.

1. Hudson Mukotos Parkers Glory - An upstanding bitch in the most glorious condition and fabulous temperament. Good head with round expressive eyes, strong jaw, clean neck. Shoulders well set, elbows close, well sprung ribs. Good bend of stifle. In hard muscle tone. She came into her own on the move, loved her profile movement. So powerful and free. BOB

2. Davies Gunthwaites Fancy Man JW - Powerful dog with strong bone. Excellent condition, with great muscle tone. Pleasing head with powerful jaw, strong clean neck. Good depth of chest. Balanced angulation. Strong loin. I really liked this boy, but he was a little unsettled in front movement today. RBOB

The weather really affected some of the dogs today.

Puppy (4,0a)

1. Coulter Collooney Strawberry Wine - 10 months bitch in excellent condition. Pleasing in head and expression. Well-constructed throughout with good angulation fore and aft. Deep brisket. Moved well, excellent handling.

2. Lloyd Penwincoed Betty Boop 9 months bitch, larger than first, who did not let the weather affect her. Moved well with correct tail carriage. She was well balanced, pleasing front and rear.

3. Lawley Crosscop Enticing Lawleymoon

Junior (4,1a)

1. Penwincooed Mr Magoo – 9 months brindle dog. Lovely head with correctly shaped eye. Good length of neck, well laid shoulder. Developing nicely in front. Good balance throughout. Well sprung ribs. Moving so well today in well today in all directions. I felt he was more settled than the other puppy in the challenge. In great condition. Best Puppy. RBOB

2. Edwards Lawleymoon Ezeza Mar at Landsbirch – just over a year old still maturing. Elegant bitch with a pleasing overall shape. Strong rear. Good tuck up. Moving steadily and soundly.

3. Handley Alysando’s Blue Pearl

Post Graduate (8,3a)

  I felt the dogs in this class were particularly affected by the weather.

1. Edwards Landbirch Isadora - Elegant fawn bitch. Long and lean head. She is well angulated front and rear. Good length of neck and firm back. Well sprung ribs. Good tuck up. She moved well in this class.

2. Vaughan-Wall Shirotae Paws for a Song – Almost 5 years old this bitch was slightly bigger than first. Well placed shoulder, good ribbing and well bent stifles. Moved soundly.

1. Carr Jothryn True Way Love

This girl really put her all in today and did not let the weather affect her. Beautiful, elegant head with correct eye shape and correct ear. Long neck. Well sprung ribs. Definite tuck up. Strong loin. She is well balanced front and rear. She moved exceptionally well, in all directions. Presented in fabulous condition and well handled. BOB

2. Lloyd Jothryn Beyond Blonde avec Penwincoed – bitch who is coming up to 3 years old. Lovely flowing outline. Nice head, good length of neck. Looks lovely in profile movement. In lovely condition.

3. Disley Snowleana Ray of Light

Puppy (2,1a)

1. Ford Jansams White Russian – Borzoi – just 6 months, he was really enjoying his day out – full of fun at his first show! Long and lean head. Slightly arched neck, clean shoulder. Good depth for age. Good angulation. Presented well. Once settled he moved well.

Junior (3,1a)

1. Bailey Bromp Bigbutt Beryl Brown at Longmynd – Basset Hound

Red and white bitch who has a wonderful character. Typical head, black nose.

Well laid shoulders with corresponding upper arm. Ribs well rounded. Strong topline held well on the move. Well angulated rear. I really liked this bitch, but she was untidy behind on the move today.

2. Fleetwood Tangaer Iced Bun – PBGV

Presented in harsh coat. She is well balanced. Good neck, well laid shoulder, Medium length to back and well turned stifles. Moved well in profile with correct tail carriage but needs to tighten up in front.

Post Graduate

1. Raczka Go Go Bolshoi Casino Royal (Imp Hun) Borzoi

Impressive dog, long head with good eyes. Nicely constructed with balanced angulation. Good depth to chest, plenty of heart room. Excellent coat which was well presented. He moves so well around the ring with good reach.

2. Ford Mischran Miika – Borzoi

Dog with not quite the substance of 1. Good head and neck, sloping shoulder, deep enough chest. I would prefer a little more rear angulation. He moved soundly. He was presented in excellent musletone.

Open (13,6a)

1. Lewis Trixhund Ten From Len JW – LH Dachshund

This showman caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring.

Masculine, appealing head, good neck. Sloping shoulder with corresponding upper arm. He has good ribbing. Firm in body and topline. Strong well angulated rear. Presented in fabulous coat and condition. This dog comes into his own in the move, with such presence. He moves freely with a long stride and drive from the rear. Handled so well. Best AVNSC. Hound Group 1, I was delighted he went on to win Best in Show.

2. Bailey Longmynd Cedric Smartson by Bromp – Basset Hound

Another who catches the eye, unlucky to meet 1 today. Good neck, shoulders well laid back. Prominent breastbone. Good depth. Well sprung ribs. Level back. Well-muscled. Smooth and powerful movement.

3. Raczka Prime Rubin Castor (Imp Hun) Borzoi.

AV Imported Breed Register Hound (1,1)

1. Binnersley and Tomkinson Xtreme Mr President V D Mergelhoeve at Mortland (imp Nld) Black and Tan Coonhound

This dog has good substance and a clean outline. He is full of character and has ring presence. Well-muscled shoulders, level back. Deep chest. Well angulated rear. Moved well, in great condition.

AV Hound Veteran (9,1a)

What a wonderful class of veterans, the hardest class for me. I love to see the veterans, thank you for bringing them.

1. Gizewska Ch Saxonmill Zan Zan - Afghan Hound

I have admired this bitch ringside, and I was so happy to have to opportunity to judge her. Beautiful, refined head with dark well shaped eye. Long neck, she is balanced in her front and rear angulation. Deep chest, good spring of rib, prominent hipbones. Correctly set tail which has the desired ring. In lovely condition. Moved well with springy gait. Best veteran hound, I was so pleased to see that she went Reserve Best Veteran in Show – well done.

2. Kilbourne Louisa Chick to Kirojax - Deerhound– beautiful 7-year-old girl, who moved so soundly, with effortless strides. Attractive head, well set ears. Good angulation front and rear. In lovely condition.
