Whippet Critique

I would like to thank the Officers & Committee for their hospitality and kind invitation to Judge at their Centenary Open Show today. It was a friendly, well run event with a lovely atmosphere and I did enjoy the day. Huge thanks also to all the Exhibitors who gave me a wonderful entry of 38 dogs, I really did appreciate it. Thanks also to both my stewards for keeping the ring running in an orderly manner.

Puppy 5, 1a

1. Griffiths; Pelyma Certainly Snazzy. Fawn bitch white trim of 11 months. Pretty youngster of nice breed type and good for size. Correct front assembly with enough infill and adequate depth for age. Nicely balanced with moderate angulation fore and aft. Moved out confidently in harmony with her handler. Sound from every angle holding a correct topline. BPIB, HPG3. 2. Leverett; Whippiness Eyes Down. Blue dog white trim another of 11 months old, of whom I did like. Correct masculine head long and lean with a kind expression. Good length of neck flowed into a pleasing front, depth and topline he really has lots to like. Sound mover, nevertheless a little unsettled today. 3. Price; Kierpark It’s Now Or Never Among Silkdance.

Junior 7, 3a

1. Yacoby-Wright; Zobyco Cobyco Paranoia (Imp POL). Fawn brindle bitch almost 14 months old took this class with ease today. Correct female head, feminine with an alert expression. A youngster of breed type to admire and spot on for size. A neat package, nicely proportioned throughout with good depth, brisket to elbow and well balanced rear angulation. Lovely free mover at one with her handler. Sound in all directions nevertheless lost topline in profile. RBOB. 2. Durante; Duranridge Chic Shadow. 16 month old dark brindle bitch. Pretty head with an endearing expression. She looked well on the stack, balanced with everything where it should be. Moved well enough just a tad unsettled at times. 3. Price; Kierpark It’s Now Or Never Among Silkdance.

Special Yearling 4, 3a

1. Severn; Peiluv Chasing Rainbow For Nattah. Fawn brindle boy of 14 months stood alone in this class today. Much more settled this time round than he was in the previous class where he lost out. Masculine head, correct eye set with a good reach of neck. Nice angles just needs to mature and drop a little into his frame. Moved ok in profile holding a pleasing topline, just a tad wide on the away.

Post Graduate 8, 3a

1. Lawrence & Woodward; Bryntreia High Maintenance. Fawn dog white trim of 4 years took my eye initially in the line-up. Typically male and of a nice size. Well constructed and balanced throughout. Correct front assembly, good length and return of upper arm elbow falling directly under wither in profile. Enough length of ribbing and strong in loin. He covered the ground naturally on the stand without being over done. Sound on the move holding a good topline. 2. Strong & Clinton; Crosscop Kiss Me Here For Mackjama. Another fawn dog white trim of 2 years. Different make and shape to the winner being taller and cast on a longer frame, nevertheless has lots of pleasing attributes. Correct moderate bladed bone and stood square on well knuckled feet. Moved well enough, just preferred the front construction of 1. 3. Severn; Nattah Black Orchid.

Open 14, 6a

1. Longhurst; Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen JW. Smart 3 year old blue fawn bitch of quality, whom I had previously judged giving top honours as a youngster. Nicely constructed female head, super reach of neck which flowed into a correct shoulder placement and return of upper arm. Desired depth of brisket and a good length of ribbing. Lovely moderate angles fore and aft. An absolute picture on the stand, super shape in profile with an air of elegance which I like to see in a Whippet bitch. She is so well balanced and without exaggeration. Foot perfect on the move, sound in all directions holding a good topline. Well deserved BOB and later HG1. 2. Allanson & Macdonald; Zoraden Simply The Zest Of Macalldon JW. Quality 2 year old dog fawn white trim, another fine example of the breed so unlucky to meet the winner today. Attractive male head with good pigmentation and kind expression. Clean scissor bite and strong under jaw. Correct front assembly, depth of chest and muscular in loin with enough width to rear. Presented in good condition, coat and muscle tone. Lovely free flowing stride, long and low with enough forward reach and plenty of rear drive. 3. Baulch; Erinnis Mignonette
