I would like to thank the officers and committee of the club for their kind invitation to judge at this show.

A super show, friendly atmosphere and slickly run all day.

Thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing forward your beautiful dogs under me.

Classes 215 - 218 Flat Coated Retriever:

Puppy (3.3)

1.Mrs S J Thurgood. Thurwhitt Lyra Belacqua

   10 month old bitch. Very feminine, pleasing head and eye, well constructed, good front and good depth of chest. Pleasing outline, strong topline and good tail-set, sound mover with good carriage. Impressive for one so young

2. Mrs S & Miss M Lewis. Fairwinds Blooming Wild

    9 month old bitch. Another very promising young bitch. Lovely head and eye, well constructed. Very good body properties, strong hindquarters. But not quite the strength in topline or drive of the winner. However, still a sound steady mover.

Graduate (4,2)

1. Mrs H Ford. Staverton Yakub of Percuil

Rising 3 year old dog. Up to size, very good head and eye, lovely outline, strong topline and good tailset. Well constructed with an excellent front, bone and feet. Strong well muscled and angulated hindquarters, sound mover front and rear.

2. Mr F W J & Mrs L D Cooves. Benvellyn Nyanga at Draketor

2 year old bitch. Excellent head and eye, very good breed type, well constructed and balanced throughout. Strong loin and moderate hind angulation. Moved soundly, excellent front action but could have a little more width behind.

Rising 4 year old bitch. Excellent head and eye, very good body properties, well constructed with a good front assembly. Strong, well angulated hindquarters, a sound active mover. Lost her topline on the move slightly.

1. Mrs S May. Ronevorg Dark Angel at Lussac JW KCWGC KCSGC.

4 ½ year old dog. Caught my eye as he entered the ring. Upstanding with a beautiful outline, strong topline and good tail set, So well balanced throughout. Super head and eye. Strong well angulated hindquarters, moved soundly with good carriage and tail action. Well-muscled. Looks like he could work all day!

1. Mrs I J Evans. Trendlewood Long Time Comin at Pudleigh JW

15 month old dog. A strongly built young yellow dog. Slightly heavy in the head for my taste but still masculine with a kind eye and expression. Well set ears. A nice balanced outline and moved well particularly in profile with correct angulation and a level topline. A sound mover who covers the ground well. Would benefit from tighter feet and slightly more tone to his pelvic limb muscles.

1. Miss E Evans. R CH Eminala Star Struck Farnfield

BOB

4 year old yellow bitch. A beautiful feminine head and kind eye. Good reach of neck into a level topline that she held well on the move. Well placed shoulders and overall solid, balanced outline both stood and on the move. Particularly good forechest, good angulation infront and behind and stood on nice neat feet. Moved the best today with ease and an excellent repour with her handler

Classes 223 - 225 Curly Coated Retriever:

Graduate (3,3)

1. Miss D M Courtier. Maycourt Cover Shot

2 year old bitch. A good head shape, eye and well placed ears. Well built outline with plenty of depth, best of fronts and nice rib. Firm loin and good quality bone. Well angled rear and good tail. Moved with steady gait holding her top line well

2. Mr J & Mrs M B Stephens. Brightmeadow Come On Eileen.

14 month old bitch. Another well built outline with strong neck of pleasing length well sprung ribcage reaching back firm loin good bone and tight feet. Moved with excellent drive but a little loose around the middle affected the hold of her topline on the move today.

1. Mr J & Mrs M B Stephens. Brightmeadow Rumour Has It JW

15 month old dog. A really delightful wedged head and soft expression and dark eyes. Strong looking when stood, well boned front good depth of body giving a perfectly balanced outline. A Firm top-line held very well on the move, broad and strong across the loins and powerful muscled hindquarters with deep second thighs. Moved like a dog well beyond his young 15 months, covered the ground with an effortless profile action.

2. Mr B J & Mrs S M Perkins. Maycourt Miss Sweetness at Tengore

2 year old bitch. The most feminine of heads and an elegant outline. A good straight front leading into good shoulders. A strong topline with correct tail set, moved well with excellent front extension but a little close behind and lacking the drive of 1 today.

1. Mr J & Mrs M B Stephens. Ravenho Looks Like Trouble for Brightmeadow

Rising 3 year old dog. A lot to like about this dog. A smart head and kind eye, another with a great expression. Strong neck and the best of shoulders, he flows through the neck into his strong topline and on to his well set on tail. A deep forechest, spring and length of rib. Really liked his overall outline and proportions both stacked and on the move. Pushed hard for BOB today – just beaten by the superior drive of the BOB today.

2. Mrs M Edworthy. Maycourt Heartbreaker.

4 year old dog. An upstanding dog with lots to like, he has a wonderful coat and a lovely expression with a nice dark eye. Strong, balanced outline and plenty of bone. A good front with correct upper arm. Well muscles rear quarters. Sound on the move, showing correct reach at the front, just not a positive behind as 1 today

Classes 236 – 238 Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever:

Graduate (7,2)

1. Mrs J Shore. Briztollie I Have A Dream

7 month old dog – just a young dog but full of promise! Lovely head shape with correct ear set, good length to neck set on well placed shoulders and good front assembly. A surprisingly deep chest for such a young dog, correct spring to ribs and a level top line. Short back and strong loin, liked his angles behind and found him in excellent coat. A real solid mover showing good straight lines and good drive behind. Nicely handled.

2. Miss L Thatcher & Mr M Robbins. Wakaduze Duwamish

9 month old bitch. The sweetest of heads, good eye and correct ear set, good neck and well laid shoulders. Straight front and lovely tight feet. A really nice shape when stood - short backed and good angles behind, good coat. Balanced on the move with level top line and good tail set, straight line both going and coming towards. Just not as well muscled as 1 today

1. Miss Hughes. Abacot Into The Unknown JW

Rising 4 year old dog. Masculine appearance but with no coarseness. Presented in good condition and well muscled. Correct depth of brisket and forechest and really covered the ground with effortless strides.

2. Mrs L & Mr T Palfrey. Eusaint Wild Atlantic Way

5 year old dog. Balanced head and lovely shape to body. Straight front and level top line when stacked. Just preferring the rear quarters of 2 on the day. Moved well with good drive behind and reach in front

Open (5,1)

1. Mrs B & Mr C Parker. Tollpepper Echo’s Hope for Skysaria

4 year old bitch. Spoiled for choice in this class! Lovely bitch of decent size and substance. Well proportioned. Excellent wedged shaped feminine head, good length of muzzle with tight fitting lips. Slight but perceptible stop, ears well set on. Medium well muscled neck leading to well laid shoulders. Good fore angulation, straight strong legs and tight round feet. Good spring to ribs and brisket reaching to the elbows. Strong loin leading to well set on tail. Good rear angulation. Moved with drive – actually outmoved everything today!

2. Mr D C & Mrs C J Ward. Melanitta Palmata JW.

6 ½ year old dog. An impressive dog who appealed for balance. Good head and almond-shaped eyes, correct strong neck into laid back shoulders, deep chest and good spring of rib, ample body condition, strongly made rear with decent turn of stifle. Quality dog who moved exceptionally well but just did not move with the power and jauntiness of 1 today.

Classes 226 – 227 Gordon Setter:

Graduate (6,2)

1. Ms W D Smith. Kewstoke Sea Queen Zena

7 month old bitch. What a class! Difficult judge as all entries carried very similar attributes but this young girl caught my eye. Expertly handled and clearly wanting to please her handler. Feminine head with good length and depth to muzzle and a wonderfully sweet expression. She has a lovely outline with decent bone and body for her age. Well angulated infront and behind. She made and appealing, balanced shape when stood. Moved out steadily but already has a free, flowing stride.

2. Ms K Frost & Mr I Andrews. Kewstoke Sandy Salty Kisses.

7 month old bitch. Litter sibling to 1. Very similar qualities to 1, but she didn’t hold her topline as well as 1 on the move today.

Open (2,1)

1. Ms K Frost & Mr I Andrews. Lainnireach Born To Be A Start.

2 year old bitch. Finer framed girl so stylish and elegant on the move, really free flowing and moved at the right pace to accentuate her correct drive and movement. Good bone for size, pretty head, clean neck into shoulders, level topline, correct rear angles. Felt she didn’t quite have the ring presence and spark of the BOB today
