Exonian Canine Association – Christmas Premier Open Show

I thank the Officers and Committee of the Exonian Canine Association for the invitation to judge Pugs at their Christmas Premier Open Show. I also thank the exhibitors for their entries and my steward, John, for his efficient assistance.

PUPPY DOG / BITCH (5)

1st – Kelsall’s Kelbrend Mister Marmalade

Fawn dog, just two days short of his first birthday. Masculine head with ample wrinkle, dark ears and expressive eyes, open nostrils and good width of underjaw. Reasonable reach of neck into a straight front with developing forechest. Level topline and high-set double-twist tail. Good pigment throughout, contrasting well with his soft pale coat. Once settled, he moved well. Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd – Makepeace’s Sandigara Hope and Dreams

9-month-old fawn bitch puppy. Pretty, feminine head with good wrinkle, dark eyes and ears. Nicely angulated with a soft, pale coat. Moved well.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1st – Kelsall’s Kelbrend Mister Marmalade

Repeat of Puppy winner.

2nd – Kelsall’s Kelbrend Dreamy Dutchess

Sister to 1st. Similar in type, though slightly longer in loin. Pretty head with rose ears, dark eyes and a soft expression. Pale, soft coat. Movement a little unsettled today.

OPEN DOG (3)

1st – Makepeace’s Hugapug Guy Fawkes at Sandigara

3-year-old fawn dog. Short-coupled, compact and well boned. Excellent head with dark eye, open nostrils and wide underjaw. Strong pigmentation throughout, contrasting well with pale coat. Good reach of neck into well-laid shoulders, well-sprung ribs, level topline and high-set double-twist tail. Balanced fore and aft and moved out with drive. Best of Breed & Toy Group 4.

OPEN BITCH (5)

1st – Makepeace’s Cedilla Cherry Jubilee at Sandigara 23-month-old fawn bitch. Pretty, well-worked head with excellent pigmentation. Dark eyes giving a melting expression. Ample reach of neck, good layback of shoulder, level topline and high tail set. Moved well.
