Wales & West Of England Pug Dog Club

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee of the Wales & West of England Pug Dog Club for their kind invitation to judge their Open Show. Thanks also to mystewards, Ilona and Noah for keeping my classes running smoothly, and to all exhibitors who gave me an entry. I was delighted to have had so many beautiful dogs to go over and had some tough choices to make. I’m sure many could change places on a different day.

Veteran Dog (1)

1.Hall's Sephina the Pickpocket, 8-year-old male A good head still with plentyof pigment, a dark eye, good open nares and wide underjaw. Ample neck, compact inbody, with well laid-back shoulders level top line and a well set on tail. Sound movement in all directions and very attentive to handler.

Minor Puppy Dog (1)

1.Butterstone`s Mopszawa`s Heartbreaker for Joshotto. A 9-month-old boy, still very raw but showing promise. Super pigment throughout and a well-worked head.Dark eye, nose roll and nares are good, with a pleasing width of underjaw.Reasonable reach of neck, developing forechest, good topline, though a shade long in loin at this stage. High-set tail. Movement good once settled.

Puppy Dog (2)

1.Atwood & Taylor`s Taftazini Fluffy Ruffles. One year old, this boy caught my eye as soon as he came in the ring. Beautiful soft pale coat with the darkest ofcontrasting pigment. His head is well worked, with a dark eye which gives him a super masculine yet soft cheeky expression. He has open nares and wide underjaw.Good reach of neck leading to well laid-back shoulders, good spring of rib, level topline and high set on single twist tail. Straight front, well boned, balanced Moved with confidence and purpose. BPD, BPIB, BIS. Was delighted to hear he had also won BPIB, RCC & Toy Puppy group 1 at the South Wales Kennel Championship Show held on the same day.

2. Kelsall’s Kelbrend Mister Marmalade. Another quality puppy, 10 months old, slightly smaller and not quite as mature as 1. Pleasing masculine head with super dark eyes and pigment. Ample head wrinkle, open nares and good underjaw. Ears could be a tad smaller. Reasonable reach of neck, pale soft coat. Straight front, short in body with good bone for his age. Moved well around the ring.

Special Fawn Puppy (1)

1. Mitchell & Willis`s Taftazini Tussie Mussie. One-year-old dog, litter brother to the winner of Puppy Dog. Another quality youngster with a well-worked head and jet-black pigment, beautifully contrasted against his soft, warm fawn coat. Large, dark eyes, open nares and good width of underjaw. Reasonable forechest, level topline, though I would prefer a little more turn of stifle. Moved very well around the ring with confidence and purpose.

Junior Dog (1,1a)

1. Bailey`s Felice Vincenza. 2-year-old fawn dog with a beautiful soft pale coat which contrasts well with his dark pigment. Lovely masculine head with dark eyes nicely open nares, moderate nose roll and wide underjaw. Longer in loin than I would like but still balanced. He has good bone, a nice forechest, top line and tail set ok. Moved well around the ring.

Yearling Dog (1)

1. Hall's Conquell Morning Sun. 2-year-old pale fawn dog. Lovely masculine well worked head, with open nares, good underjaw, dark eyes and pigment. A nicely arched neck, Level top line, good spring of rib square, compact and balanced with high set tail. Moved well out and back.

Limit Dog (3,1a)

1. Makepeace`s Hugapug Guy Fawkes. Fawn dog just under three years old. He has a super masculine head with the darkest of pigment. Button ears, dark eyes whichgives him a lovely soft expression. Open nares and wide underjaw. He is well off for bone and has a good reach of neck, forechest and turn of stifle. His top line is level finished off with a high set tail. He is square and compact with super movement.

2.Long`s Conquell Cabinet of Clowns. Two-and-a-half-year-old fawn dog of lovely type. Well balanced and full of character. Jet black pigment, masculine head, large dark eyes giving a soft, alert expression. Ears neat and well set, muzzle broadCompact body with good depth of chest, firm topline and well-set tail. Moves soundly both ways.

Open Dog (1)

1.Pike & Pike & Hill & Mallinson `s Ch Eivisah Sonnentanz JW. This three-year-old fawn dog has the most beautiful large head. Well set on ears, super dark pigmentthroughout, open nares and wide underjaw. The darkest of eyes which give him a soft, melting expression. Straight front, good reach of neck, level top line, compact, well-ribbed body and tightly curled tail. Moves with drive holdinghis shape at all times. RBIS

Special Open Fawn Dog (3,2a)

1. Linnet`s Conquell Calm to Chaos – A well-made four-and-a-half-year-old pug with good bone and a lovely square, compact body which gave him a pleasing outline.Delightful masculine head with the darkest pigment and melting expression —button ears, large, dark eyes, good reach of neck, firm topline, and well-set on tail.Moved freely with confidence around the ring.

Special Open Black Dog (1)

1.Arnold-Stronge`sWeaverham Toodarn Hot from Snugglepug. A super 13-month-old black male, a confident dog with a lovely head. He has well-set ears, largeexpressive eyes and nicely open nares. Super soft, jet-black coat, up on size but still has a nice square balanced outline. Strong neck, good spring of rib, well-laid shoulders and nice angulation front and rear. Level topline and tightly curled tail.Stood foursquare at all times and moved with drive. BBIS.

Veteran Bitch (3)

1, Pike `s Ch Rhodenash Stella Dreams of Eivisah JW. A Seven-and-a-half-year-old quality fawn bitch of excellent type, beautifully balanced throughout. Lovelyfeminine head with well-defined wrinkle, dark expressive eyes and neat ears giving a soft yet alert expression. Strong neck into well-laid shoulders, compact cobby body with good spring of rib, firm topline and tightly curled tail. Super movement.BVIB

2.Johnson’s Popinjay Message to Martha. Eight-and-a-half-year-old fawn bitch.Another quality exhibit with a lovely feminine head, dark expressive eyes, buttonears and good nares and width of underjaw, giving a soft, appealing expression.Excellent pigmentation throughout. Nicely arched neck, well-angulated front and rear. Short, level back and high-set tail. Very attentive to her handler and moved very well around the ring, showing with confidence.

Minor Puppy Bitch (4)

1.Rutherford`s Mopszawawa`s Wild Love with Potbelli. An 8-month-old fawn bitch.Very pretty feminine head with dark eyes which give her a melting expression. Shehas neat ears and a well-developed underjaw for age. Compact, cobby body with good bone, level topline and a high-set on tail. Soft pale coat. Nicely angulated front and rear, moved confidently around the ring.BPB

2.Reid`s Bubbapug Empress Pudding. Another extremely pretty eight-month-old fawn bitch, slightly lighter in bone than 1. Lovely feminine head with dark, lustrouseyes, neat ears and well-formed underjaw. Good reach of neck, level topline and high-set tail. Excellent pigmentation throughout. Movement was ok. Preferred front movement on one.

Puppy Bitch (2)

1.Dawson-Payne, Reynolds & Mousley`s, Judamie Croften Gift of The Gab. Pretty seven-month-old fawn bitch quite raw at the moment. Short, soft, warm fawn coat,lovely head, dark pigment and plenty of workings already developing. Rose ears,large dark eyes, nicely open nares and ample width of underjaw. Good reach of neck, straight front, lovely forechest and good bone. A bit of length in her loin at this stage. Level topline and good turn of stifle. Tail set could be a touch higher, movement was ok.

2. Kelsall’s Kelbrend Peach Preserve. Ten-month-old clear coated fawn bitch with good bone. Has a pretty feminine head with rose ears which could be a tad smaller. She is well pigmented with dark expressive eyes, open nares and a nice wide underjaw. Ample reach of neck, top line and tail set are ok. Moved well.

Junior Bitch (1)

1. Linett’s Conquell Charm Offensive. Beautiful 14 months old clear fawn bitch. Very pretty head with the darkest contrasting pigment. Her eyes are dark and lustrous giving her a soft melting expression. She is short and compact and well boned. Nicely arched neck leading to a good lay back of shoulder and a level top line. A Nicely balanced bitch with super movement.

Yearling bitch (3,2a)

1. Ederry & Dawson-Payne`s, Judamie Le Magnifique. One-year-old bitch with a soft warm fawn coat. Feminine and well-balanced with a balanced outline. Well-worked head with dark expressive eyes, neat ears, open nares and good width of underjaw. Square and Compact body with good bone, level topline, tightly curled high set tail. Good movement.

Post Graduate Bitch(3,1a)

1. Swinge & Saffer’s Myter Crème Caramel. Two-year-old compact fawn bitch with super pigment well contrasted with her soft, short coat. Pretty feminine head with well-shaped dark eyes and correctly set ears which gave her a soft expression.Straight front with well sprung rib, moderate forechest and turn of stifle. Moved well with drive.

2. Kelsall’s Kelbrend Dreamy Duchess, such a pretty two-and-a-half-year-old clear coated bitch. Lovely pansy face, rose ears, dark pigment and eyes with a very sweetexpression. She has straight front, nicely angulated at both ends and has a good top line and tail set. Moved well, just preferred the overall balance of 1.

Limit Bitch (5)

1.Cedilla Cherry Jubilee at Sandigara. Three-and-a-half-year-old fawn bitch with super jet-black pigment throughout. She has a beautiful, round head with well-setears and large, soft, expressive dark eyes. Lovely width of underjaw and a straight front with moderate forechest. Well-laid shoulders, level topline and a high-set tail which gives her a balanced, compact outline. Lovely movement.

2.Ellenor`s Afterglow Dream Topping at Roesclan. Two-year-old fawn bitch of lovely type with a balanced and compact outline. Well-shaped head with diamond,large dark eyes and excellent pigment giving a soft, appealing expression. Good reach of neck flowing into a level topline and well-set tail. Straight front, well-rounded ribcage, moderate angulation and good steady movement.

Open Bitch (3)

1.Rutherford`s CH Bilohka Dawn Patrol with Potbelli JW. Beautiful Two-and-a-half-year-old bitch full of quality and substance. Beautiful pansy face excellent pigment,well open nares, large dark eyes and neat ears framing a soft, feminine expression.Strong, wide underjaw and well-padded muzzle. She is square and compact in body with good spring of rib, level topline and tightly curled high set tail. Good bone,Well-angulated and balanced from every angle. Excellent movement presented in super condition, clear to see why she is a champion.BB, BOS

2. Saffer & Swinge`s CH Bubbapug Summer Sundae. Another equally beautiful bitch of different type to one. She has a feminine head with dark pigment, well set ears,good nares and ample underjaw. Lovely expressive eyes which give her a soft but cheeky expression. Lovely pale soft coat. Straight front with moderate forechest,and turn of stifle. Well-ribbed body with level topline and high set tail. Slightly longer in loin and lighter in bone than one but still very balanced. Excellent steady movement.

Special Open Fawn Bitch (2,1a)

1.Watson`s Tybec Moonbeam. Four-year-old warm fawn-coated bitch, short and compact with good substance and well off for bone. Super round “pansy” face withrose ears, dark eyes, good open nares, and wide underjaw, giving a sweet, soft expression. Ample neck flowing into well-laid-back shoulders, straight front, and very well-angulated at both ends, creating a beautifully balanced outline. Excellentmovement. RBB

Special Open Black Bitch (2)

1. Coultier`s Blacobby Lady Macbeth. A 23-month-old bitch of compact, cobby type with a balanced outline. Feminine head with large, dark expressive eyes, neat roseears giving a soft yet alert expression.Well-ribbed body with level topline and well-set tail, straight front and moderate forechest. Strong, well-angulated quarters,moving freely with good drive.

2.Cogan`s Sunlea Miny the Minx. Four-and-a-half-year-old black bitch, slightly smaller and lighter in bone than the winner. Very pretty head with good open naresand a lovely dark eye, giving a soft, appealing expression. Reasonable length of neck leading to well-laid shoulders, level topline though a little longer in loin than one.Good turn of stifle and high set tail moved well.
