British Utility Breeds Association Open Show
22/3/25
Judge – Carla Tanswell
I would like to thank the committee of the British Utility Breeds Association for the invitation to judge this prestige show., it was a real honour to be asked and it was such a lovely atmosphere amongst a friendly group. Many thanks too to my excellent steward Lisa who kept me on track and kept the ring flowing well. My thanks extends to the exhibitors who entered under me and gave me the highest entry of the day. There were a few absentees but I still had a lovely selection of Dalmatians to go over, the majority of who met the standard of being and friendly and outgoing. I had quite a few kisses during the judging and afterwards! I think we would all agree that we could have done with a larger ring, some dogs who I know can move better seemed to be impinged by the ring size, but everyone took my placings with grace which I thank you all for.
PUPPY (2)
1st Green & Sears - Shydally Golden Star Over Judally
10 month old B/W who is muscling up well in all the right places. He has a strong neck into good shoulder placement and a firm top line which he keeps on the move. Chest developing nicely with good spring of rib. Lovely bend of stifle and well let down hocks. He moves with enthusiasm and has good reach and drive for one so young. He has a superb temperament and a tail which doesn’t stop wagging. Delighted to hear he went BPIS3 under Miss H Howard.
2nd Alexander - Offordale Belverdere
Handsome 6 month old L/W boy at his first show. Very much a baby and a little uncoordinated on the move still but overall a very nice puppy. Correct liver colour, lovely even spotting and well trained, he took everything in his stride and is a real sweetheart. Lovely head and ear set, nice deep chest, good shoulder placement and correct tail set. Such a happy little chap. I’m sure his time will come, and I will watch his career with interest.
JUNIOR (7, 2ab)
1st Whincup - Tamilanda Vintage Gold JW
L/W 13 month masculine all male who was so well schooled but still had character and an endearing cheekiness about him. Well up to size and muscling up in all the right places. Strong neck into firm topline line, chest developing well, good spring of rib, nice bend of stifle, well let down hocks and correct cat feet. Firm topline which he keeps on the move and correct tailset. Such a happy boy and shown in tip top condition. Fantastic reach and drive, he moved with such a big stride he really needed a bigger ring to fully show himself off.
2nd Neal - Tolkain Watseka
B/W 13 month old girl with a really lovely expression. Such a live wire with lovely personality. Heavier spotted than 1st, with a lovely dark pigment. Pretty feminine head with correct ear set, strong neck into firm topline which she kept on the move when she was concentrating and one of the best tailsets of the day. Nice deep chest, firming and muscling up in all the right places. Really happy young lady, when she matures a bit further she should really come into her own.
3rd Warren - Hafwenna Gulping Pixies
A lovely B/W boy I’ve judged before who was so unlucky to come up against 1st and 2nd. He’s a credit to his owner, such a happy and outgoing lad.
YEARLING (7, 4ab)
A stunning class of livers!
1st Tillson - Tamilanda Rose Gold At Elabri
L/W litter sister of 1st in Junior. Superb temperament with a cheeky expression to match. Such a pretty girl, really nice make and shape, evenly spotted with correct liver colouring and pretty feminine head into good neck and firm topline which she keeps on the move. Muscling up well, deep chest, correct cat feet, good bend of stifle and well let down hocks. Shown so nicely on a loose lead which allowed her to show off her movement and move with real reach and drive which won her the class. A really nice balanced bitch, she pulled out all the stops in the challenge to be awarded BOB
2nd Sampson - Dalstorm Just Waltzing JW
Heavier spotted than 1st, but still very even and defined, she is a nice make and shape and so well balanced. Really nicely muscled, strong neck and firm topline. Good bend of stifle and correct cat feet. Moves with lovely reach and drive but is one who could’ve done with a bigger ring to really show off as she was slightly close behind at times. A really well trained happy show girl with a delightful personality. She’s in tip top condition and is a credit to her owner.
3rd Cattermole - Hafwenna Dumbledores Army For Kalvadene
Sadly something has spooked this lovely boy at a recent show and he wasn’t at all happy with proceedings. Kudos to his owner for working with him get through this blip.
POST GRADUATE (7, 2ab)
Two litter sisters topped the class here
1st Stevenson - Dallyador White Snowflake At Macula
One I’ve judged before, who I loved then and I still love now. 2 year old B/W evenly spotted, who is such an endearing young bitch with superb personality and temperament to match. Nice make and shape, beautiful feminine head with well broken ears, she has an expression which just demands you look at her. Strong neck into firm topline, nice deep chest, well muscled, good bend of stifle, well let down hocks and tight cat feet. Nothing is overdone and she’s just a lovely honest and balanced girl. She was a bit distracted and playful on the move but did enough to win the class and then take RBOB.
2nd Tingey - Dallyador White Magnolia JW
L/W who was just pipped to the post. Such an attentive show girl who obviously adores her owner. She has a lovely feminine head with a kind expression. Longer cast than 1st but still very balanced. Many of her sisters attributes also apply to her, she moves with purpose with good reach and drive. Nice deep chest and spring of rib, with a firm topline which she keeps on the move, she’s well muscled and just a lovely beautiful young lady.
3rd French - Tamilanda Instant Sass
OPEN (9, 4ab)
1st Neal - Tolkain Morning Star
6 year old feminine B/W who was so attentive and eager to please her owner. Good even spotting, lovely feminine head with correct ear set, strong neck into firm topline and correct tailset. Deep chest, good muscle, nice bend of stifle and let down hocks. An all round very nice honest and balanced bitch. Shown on a loose lead which allowed her to show off her movement with good reach and drive. I couldn’t look past her for 1st place. Just lost out to youth in the final challenge.
2nd Whincup - Tamilanda Air Force One
Handsome B/W boy who needed a bigger ring to really show himself off. Lovely dark pigment, really nice make and shape and so attentive to his handler. All male showman who is evenly spotted with deep pigment and has good muscle. Masculine head with correct ear set, strong neck, deep chest, good spring of rib and firm topline which he keeps on the move. Good bend of stifle with well let down hocks and correct cat feet. He does have a tendency to carry his tail high on the move but it never stops wagging so you can let him off. Shown in top condition, a credit to his owner
3rd Kembrey - Dalmark The Ash Blonde
L/W pretty feminine girl who was so unlucky to meet 1st and 2nd who were on such fine form today.
