Angus and Kincardine Canine Association Open Show

18/10/2025

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge my first pastoral appointment. Thank you to stewards Peter and Rachel for their efficient running of the ring. My final thanks are to the exhibitors for their entries and support. I really enjoyed my day and had some lovely dogs to go over.

Australian Shepherd Post Graduate

1st Hodges’ Rosschell Made to Sparkle with Jopium. Feminine 10-month-old blue merle and tan bitch of pleasing type. Well-proportioned head with good ear placement. Nice length of neck flowing cleanly into well-laid shoulders. Muscular hindquarters with moderate angulation allowed her to move with good reach and drive while maintaining a firm topline. Well balanced for her age and overall, a promising youngster who will be watched with interest as she matures.

2nd Bothwell’s Norcis Jera. Very much the baby of the class, this 6-month-old black tri dog was a pleasing youngster of good overall shape with ample bone. Good feet. He was well turned out. Once settled, he covered the ground with a moderate stride, powered by strong hindquarters, maintaining his outline on the move. Another promising youngster.

3rd Kinnes’ Talard Seein is Believin

Australian Shepherd Open

A very strong class with some very nice dogs going unplaced.

1st Hodges’ Jopium Dark and Demure JW BOB Group 2. A bitch that I have admired from a distance, today I was delighted to have the opportunity to go over her, and she didn’t disappoint. Nearly 2 year old black tri. A very pretty bitch of pleasing type and quality. She has a balanced, feminine head with good length, correctly set ears, and dark, expressive eyes. Neck of good length flowing into correctly laid shoulders with neat elbows. Moderate angulation, firm topline, and excellent body proportions complemented by a strong rear end. Moved freely. Presented in lovely condition.

2nd Bothwell’s Norcis Summer Truffle JW. 3 year old red merle and tan bitch presented in great coat. Well-proportioned head with well-set ears. Correct forequarters with well laid shoulders, good front and nice feet. Maintained her topline on the move, well-muscled hindquarters. Today I felt she didn’t have the drive of 1st, but these 2 could swap places on another day.

3rd Pugh, Mackenzie and Taggart’s Northbay Xsells Can’t B’leaf My I’s

Bearded Collie Post Graduate

1st Glasgow’s Gallus Hopes and Dreams BOB 13 month old brown bitch. Lovely head with a sweet expression. Correct bite. Well-set shoulders and angulated front. Slightly longer than tall, with a level topline maintained on the move. Good bone and correct feet. She moved effortlessly around the ring, showing good reach and drive, very balanced.

2nd Ryan’s Gallus Midas Touch into Razkal. Littermate to 1 and sharing many of the same attributes. 13 month old dog shown in good coat. Strong without being overdone head with a square, flat skull. Well set ears. Lovely outline and well-angulated front and hindquarters. Lost out on 1st today as he was a little reserved on the move, but once he settles, wouldn’t be surprised if these places swap.

3rd Gibb’s Agallaich Full of Beans

Bearded Collie Open

1st Glasgow’s Gallus Hopes and Dreams

2nd Savage’s Talraz Comic Relief at Canaich JW VW. 8 year old slate dog. Masculine, strong head with well-developed jaws and correct dentition. Deep chest and moderately sprung ribs. Slightly longer than tall, and the overall impression is of a strong male, no doubting his sex. Well angulated and muscled hind with strong hocks. Slightly out-moved by the younger bitch today, but suspect he requires a bigger ring to really demonstrate his movement to the best.

3rd Cox’s Braesnobel Salt N’Pepper For Coirantee

Border Collie Post Graduate

1st Turner and Gat’s Yuv Gat It Back to the Future. Lots to like about this young dog. Masculine head, without being overdone. Good front with well-laid shoulders and elbows close to the body. Good bone and arched feet. He was the straightest mover of the class and pushed the open winner for BOB. Today, he was not as balanced as expected of a youngster. Another one I will be watching with interest.

2nd Walker’s Penduffie Angel of My Dreams. 7 month old bitch. Good head of the correct proportions. Used ears well to give a keen expression. Slightly arched neck into a good front. Well angulated throughout. Good bone and feet.
