Breed: 3 breeds

I would like to thank the Committee for their kind invitation to judge and their hospitality at this well run show. Big thanks also to my 2 stewards who braved the cold and were very efficient.

English Springer Spaniel. These were a pleasure to judge as quality dogs which made for tight decisions. Junior, (4,1a) 1st, BOB and BPIB. Taubmans Meonstoke wild thyme, lovely puppy, feminine head with kind eye and expression. Correct dentition. Well laid shoulders leading to good depth of chest, well off for bone, correct body proportions and held a clean classic outline stacked and moving. Well muscled rear and good hocks. Moved with purpose and drive and shown in fabulous bloom. Just pipped her litter sister into 2. 2nd Turvey & Murray’s Meonstoke wild cherry at Harvancourt. Almost identical to 1st. And same remarks apply. Today I just slightly preferred the chest and movement of 1st but I am sure they will change places many times. Was close up for res BOB. Shown in lovely condition and well muscled up. 3rd WIlliams & Toublics Cobhay heavenly hydrangea, completed a nice trio of pups and was unlucky to meet the sisters. Post grad. Presented in excellent coat and condition. 3rd Cobhay heavenly hydrangea. Open (3,2a). 1st Williams and Toublics Cobhay fancy phlox, mature girl with pretty head . Kind eye and expression. Good neck and shoulders but I would prefer a little more depth of chest and shorter loin. Holds a good outline stacked and moving . Tight feet and correct tail set. Well handled by her young handler who will be one to watch in the future.

Labrador retriever. This breed was difficult to judge as some needed more ring training as it was hard to get hands on to assess the heads and some were dirty and smelly. I know they are a working gundog breed and should be fit for purpose but for the show ring a quick wipe down would be appreciated. Temperments were excellent as all were very happy and exuberant.
