Hampshire Gundog Society

Thanks to the Committee for asking me to judge and also to my stewards.

Nova Scotia Duck Tollers. A good entry numerically but a variation in type and size. Why have exhibitors started feeding their dogs all the time when the judge is trying to go over them as it makes it difficult to examine the breed features such as head shapes, eyes and teeth etc? I understand the need for treats especially in puppies but don’t do to excess. Several youngsters missed out as couldn’t be assessed properly.

Puppy, (6) 1st, BPIB, Shores Briztollie I have a dream, at almost a year old had the edge on maturity and movement over some much younger exhibits. Well balanced all through, correct head shape with alert expression, ears well set high with feathering, well laid shoulders with close elbows, which some here today lacked, strong rear, with good hocks and feet, in great coat. 2nd Ryders Shorrocks game changer at Finnkova, younger lad with not the maturity in body of 1st, but lots to like, also correct head and expression, strong neck leading to well laid shoulders and good depth of chest, good rear and nice feet. held a good outline stacked and moving. 3rd Heads Eusanit red rabbit.

Special Yearling, (6,2a) 1st and 2nd repeat of puppy. 3rd Hunts, West and Mcdowells Wakaduke dotame.

Post grad, (2, 2a) absent.

Open, (6.2a). 1st BOB BIS, Nevers Tollelkin dream cove at Sheldrake JW, what a star he is. Handsome lad with lovely head and alert expression, good bite and correct ear placement, well balanced all through, good chest and shoulders, tight elbows, holds good topline and tailset, strong second thigh and good hocks, moved with reach and drive and presented in lovely bloom. Was thrilled to hear he won BIS in a quality line up. It’s good to see different gundog breeds taking the top honours as there is quality in some of the less flashy breeds. 2nd Ryders Arthundur dream come true at Finnkova, dad of 2nd in puppy and passing his attributes on. Unlucky to meet 1st today. Pleasing wedge shaped head and alert expression, correct ear set , has strength through neck and body,Good shoulders and ribs, moved with drive, preferred feet of 1st. Also, in good bloom. 3rd Faurds Tollelkin bay of ice. Completed a lovely trio.

Clumbers. Puppy no entries. Special Yearling. (3). 1st & res BOB, Benges Wahnahnish st giles imp NLD, well balanced and well boned lad, large head with plenty of brain room, good mouth and flews, good front and rear assembly, short legs with plenty of feathering, moved out with power, in good coat. 2nd Pages Flamris new creation for Micklemiss imp SWE, another import which can only help gene pools here, feminine head and eye, good mouth and flews, presented a pleasing outline but today I just preferred the body length of one, well sprung ribs and depth of chest, moved out well from muscular hindquarters. 3rd Taylors Creeaark Nereus at Mollynewf, this lady is new to showing and did a good job showing her charge and encouraged him.

Post grad, (2) 1st and BOB Lovells Clumbraise your song imp Nor, a really nice lad, well off for bone and substance, liked his head piece, good eye and mouth. clean through neck and deep in chest, strong rear and large round feet, moved with drive and strength and shown in lovely condition. 2nd and res BOB see previous class. Open, abs.

WSS. Unfortunately there was a breed club show on today which meant only one turned up, but he was a good one. Open 1st and BOB Goughs Julita Ruskester, handsome lad of 9 years young and just showing some slight grey whiskers but this didn’t distract from his balanced head piece and lovely chiselling. He is of the old fashion type, compact in body, clean neck , deep brisket with wide muscular rear, moved out well covering the ground. Happy and merry with wagging tail.
