STOKE ON TRENT & DISTRICT GUNDOG CLUB

GUNDOG GROUP OPEN SHOW, BIDDULPH 28TH SEPTEMBER 2025

My thanks to the committee for the kind invitation to judge the Gordon Setter at their show and also for their warm welcome and hospitality. Thanks to my two ring stewards who did a first class job, I had a really enjoyable time judging. My appreciation also to the exhibitors for presenting me with their lovely dogs to go over.

PUPPY (0), JUNIOR (0), POST GRADUATE (3), A very nice class of, as it happens, all males. 1 Michalak’s Forester’s Northern Hunter of Darkmoor with Gadieburn (IMP DEU) JW (D) Masculine boy with a pleasing outline, equally balanced angulation fore and aft. He has a nice head with good proportions and head planes, lean cheeks, nice dark eye and intelligent expression. Broad nose with open nostrils, good mouth and defined lips. Ears well set. Strong neck leading to nicely placed shoulders, straight front, forelegs with flat bone, elbows well let down. Nice depth and spring of rib, ribbed well back into a strong loin. Good width to hindquarters which were well muscled and toned. Well-presented shiny black flat coat with nice tan. He held his top line well, both standing and on the move. RBOB 2 Halliday’s Hero Majestic Manon Lescaut Yennadon (IMP CZE) (D) Younger male, still developing, also with a pleasing outline and balanced angulation. Nice head of good proportions and head planes, lean cheeks, eyes dark and bright with a soft expression. Good ears, well set, good mouth, defined lips, broad black nose with open nostrils. Lean arched neck leading to well-placed shoulders, straight front, forelegs of flat bone, nice well-padded feet, elbows well let down. Good depth of brisket and ribbed well back into a firm well-muscled loin. Good width to muscled hindquarters, straight hocks, shiny black coat and good tan. He held his top line on the move but was unsettled which affected his gait. OPEN (5), 1 Robert’s SH CH Moonglade Lily Mae Magic (B) Nice bitch presenting a pleasing profile. She has a lovely head of good proportions and head planes, lean both below and above a dark eye, intelligent expression, nose broad, black with open nostrils. Ears well set leading to a lean neck into well placed shoulders, straight front with legs of good flat bone, elbows well let down. Good fore chest and depth of brisket with ribs well sprung and ribbed well back into a wide muscular loin. Good width of hindquarters with firm muscle, hocks, short, straight and strong. Well-presented shiny coal black coat and clear tan, toes close and well padded. She held her top line on the move with good drive from behind and a nice tail action. BOB 2 Halliday’s Ch. Yennadon Barra JW SGWC (D) Masculine head of good proportions and head planes, lean in cheek, broad dark nose with open nostrils, nice dark eye and intelligent expression. Ears well set leading to a strong neck into well placed shoulders. Good fore chest and depth of brisket, ribs well sprung, well ribbed back into wide muscular loin. Good width of hind quarters with firm muscle and well developed second thigh, short, straight, strong hocks. Well-presented shiny coal black coat with nice lustrous tan, toes close and well padded. He held his top line well on the move with a nice driving action, just lacked the sparkle of 1 today.

Mouths had good dentition and all male dogs had two descended testicles.

Delighted that RBOB went on to win 1st in a class of RBOB Winners at the show.
