I loved this appointment; there was a super entry which I was honoured to judge. There were some fabulous dogs for me to go over, a great atmosphere with lots of applause around the ring to greet my winners. Special thanks to my two stewards who kept things running.
My Best in Show went to the topflight Alkhamhurst London Girl, Breed: Retriever (Labrador) (Mrs M A Woodley), I thought she was super, beautiful outline on the stack and she just flowed round the ring, I could not deny her the top spot. My Reserve Best in Show was awarded to Warrentor Nohkalikai JW, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Miss K Clunie) who again scored in outline and on the move to take the runner up spot. For Best Puppy in Show, I awarded the top spot to the very exciting young lady Leighsham Legally Blonde, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Mr G & Mrs J Jackson-Haines), she was so together for her age, oozes breed type and I am sure she will have a bright future ahead of her. For Reserve Best Puppy in Show, I selected the six-month-old Penrose Water Pistol, Breed: Retriever (Chesapeake Bay) (Mrs J Morris) who I think is a very exciting youngster and I will follow her career with interest. For Best Veteran in Show, I chose Sh Ch Oakmarsh Dancing Diva VW, Breed: Retriever (Chesapeake Bay) (Miss C A Pont), she has done well under me before and was thrilled to see her here again, so typy and moving like a train around the ring; she made sure I could not ignore her.

1st Ch Warrentor Bold As Brass JW Sgwc Wgc, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Miss K Clunie)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this boy before, but he is all male and super to go over, not surprised to see afterwards that he already carries a title. He presents with a super outline on the stack, head is masculine, well proportioned with a kind eye giving a super expression. Clean through the neck into well laid-back shoulders, stands on good legs and feet. Well made in body with ribs well sprung, firm loin and level top line, quarters well angulated and in very hard condition. Excellent in movement with a driving action to take the class.
2nd Riptide Gentlemens Relish, Breed: Retriever (Chesapeake Bay) (Mr R & Mrs S Playle & Thomas)
Well-made chap who presents a good outline on the stack, I liked his head piece which was well developed with a kind eye. Neck into shoulders is good and he has a decent lay back on him. Ribs well sprung. Quarters are well made with a moderate bend of stifle. Not the angulation of the winner. Personally, I would just like a shade more quarters on him.

1st Tollpepper Celtic Zephyr, Breed: Retriever (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling) (Mr A J & Mrs J M Trickett)
A very smart youngster, just six months and very raw at the moment but has all the basics in the right place and should develop well. Headpiece is coming together, well proportioned with good shape and enhanced by a mischievous look in his eye. Good front assembly, stands on well boned legs and feet, good body proportions and quarters that are developing nicely. Moved out like a train, super jaunty action for one so young. Good luck with him.
2nd Waterbabies Walk Tall at Hectson (Imp Ita), Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Mrs S & Mr C Webb & Smith)
Good outline on this chap, I liked his headpiece which is masculine, pleasing expression and should finish well. He is a good shape with balanced angles front and rear, stands on well boned legs. His quarters are well made with a decent bend of stifle, carrying a shade to much weight today. Moved positively but not with the enthusiasm of the winner.

1st Ambersun Winter Storm, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Mr N & Mrs M Mears)
Another lovely pup, 11 months and progressing in the right direction. Lovely headpiece on him, enhanced by a super dark eye. Good through the neck into a well assembled front, stands on good legs. Well made in body with a decent spring to his ribs for his age, a tad longer in loin, holds his topline and shape well. Well-developed quarters, with well bent stifles. Moved out positively to take this class.

1st Berrymeade Light My Fire, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Mrs P & Mr S O'gorman)
Smart 2-year-old, has all the essentials in the right places. Today scored in outline and I liked his overall shape and size, at the moment for me I would like a bit more of him all through to complete the picture, but he should achieve that with maturity. Moved out well to take the class here.
2nd Briztollie I Have A Dream JW, Breed: Retriever (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling) (Mrs J Shore)
17 moth old Toller of good shape and size, I liked his outline as with the winner he needs to fill his frame which he will do with maturity. Good overall shape and outline, clean in neck into a well-made front, stands on good legs and feet. Well made in body, decent spring of rib and firm in loin, quarters developing nicely. Moved out well, good side gait, just a tad close behind.

1st Hardyllic Jack of Diamonds with Kulawand, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Mr & Mrs R S & Mrs P Lane & Lane-Ridyard)
Smart two-year-old, who is just starting to come together and still needs to fill out all through. He presents with a clean outline and is well balanced. His head is masculine with a kind eye, clean through the neck into well set shoulders, enough return of upper arm, legs well boned and good feet. Body well proportioned, ribs need a bit more spring which they will get with age. Good quarters will a clean bend of stifle, scored in profile movement to take the class.
2nd Cheek to Cheek Unbridled Dreams for Siatham (Imp Fra) JW, Breed: Retriever (Golden) (Mrs A E Falconer)
This lady is lovely stood, just lost her shape a little on the move today. Two years old, very pretty in head and expression with a super eye. Decent front, and well made in body, quarters are good with a well bent stifle. Shown in lovely coat and condition.

1st Sh Ch Tollelkin Caife Gaelach at Tollisty, Breed: Retriever (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling) (Miss H Strevens)
One I have judged beforehand and thought highly off, now six years old and the fully finished article. She has a super headpiece with good shape and a kind eye, giving a feminine expression. She is well made, with super front construction, shoulders well laid back and stands on well boned legs. Super through the body with spring to rib and firm loin, stifles well bent. She moved round the ring with that typical jaunty action with plenty of drive. In super coat and condition.
2nd Hameldowntor Pedro Ximenez, Breed: Retriever (Flat Coated) (Mr A J Wilson)
A smart chap who has also done well under me in the past and now back fully mature. He presents with a clean outline, head is well proportioned but a shade strong for my tastes, super clean reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Stands on well boned legs. Good through the body, ribs well sprung and firm in loin. Quarters well made, good in profile action would just like him a little tighter as he came towards me.

I’m always in awe of how well dogs perform together in brace and the practicing that must go on.
1st Miss H Strevens
Very much a pair both very similar in type and very together on the move. They really were a matching pair and totally in sync, well deserved winners.
2nd Miss K Watts
Two more typy dogs who were very typical of the breed, not quite as together on the move as the winners and that cost them the top spot.

I loved this class, four super examples of their breed
1st Sh Ch Oakmarsh Dancing Diva VW, Breed: Retriever (Chesapeake Bay) (Miss C A Pont)
Did well under me at Driffield recently and again was on form again today. She has a lovely head and expression with a lovely kind eye, with a hint of mischief about her. Clean in neck into well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm. Good depth of chest, stands on straight well boned legs. Her body is well proportioned; ribs are well sprung, and she is short coupled. Well-developed quarters with stifles well bent. Good on the move, smooth in action. This made her BVIS congratulations.
2nd Sh Ch A Sense of Pleasures Yvli at Alkhamhurst, Breed: Retriever (Labrador) (Mrs M A Woodley)
Another topflight girl now approaching 10, I last judged her as a junior when she won the class and was shortlisted for the ticket, she matured into a topflight Labrador and has had an illustrious career. On the stack she looked fabulous, still holding that super outline, beautiful head and expression, typically a Labrador. Well made with super front angulation, shoulders well laid back and stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Well sprung ribs, firm loin and held her topline throughout, super quarters with well bent stifles. Just showed her age a little on the move and this cost her the class, a delight to judge, thank you for bringing her again.
