I would like to thank the officers and committee for asking me to judge the show, also making me feel so welcomed. My biggest thanks go to all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their dogs and for the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted.

 However, there was a harsh lesson learnt by me this day. Do not trust/rely on the stewards to be always be right. Believe in myself when someone appears to be more experienced at stewarding but has called the wrong dog into the ring. Stand firm.

Having come into Borders through hunting and horses; I like a dog in fit hard condition that can keep up with the horse and hounds over hill and field. Essentially a working terrier.

1st 245 Whittonglebe Spylaw Scout; Mr G & Mrs J Mackenzie

12 months old Dark Grizzle dog. Keen dark kind eyes, set in a moderately broad head with close to the head ears. Short strong muzzle and correct bite. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders which complimented his movement. Neat well padded feet and straight front legs. Easily spanned, with a strong loin and narrow body with tight ribs. Correct tail set creating an overall picture with his harsh jacket, plenty of undercoat and a super thick pelt. Smart correct movement.

2nd 251 Fairhambrook King Solomon; Mr.P. Tomlinson

7 month old Dark Grizzle dog. Short strong muzzle and correct bite. Moderate broad head with a keen expression. Good length of neck. Neat well-padded feet. Spanned well with a narrow body and good return of stifle. Dark thick jacket with a good undercoat and super pelt. Moved well.

11month Dark Grizzle dog. Up to size. Large teeth set in a strong muzzle and correct bite. Narrow body with straight front legs. Lay of shoulder into a tight rib and strong loin. Showing a strong second thigh with tight padded feet. Tail set well. Thick jacket, with good under coat and pelt.

4 year old Grizzle and Tan Dog. Dark kind eye set in an otter moderate shaped head. Good length of stop with correct bite. Good bone setting off the overall look of this dog with a thick jacket and pelt. Spanned easily with good rib and strong loin. Moved well.

7 month old Grizzle Bitch Puppy. Soft dark eyes set in an exquisite otter shaped feminine head. Small ears in correct position. Correct bite. Good length of neck going into an excellent laid of shoulder. Spanned well going into tight ribs and a strong loin. Second thigh showing drive and forward movement. Good powerhouse behind the leg. Tail set well. Jacket thick, good undercoat and super pelt. Nice tight pads and smart trimmed feet. BOB-PB

8 months old Bitch Puppy. Another fabulous otter head. Nice stop with correctly placed ears. Big teeth set in a correct bite. Soft dark eyes placed in a moderate shaped skull with a glint of naughtiness in the eye. Thick dark double jacket with a loose pelt. Spanned well and moved well.

11 months old Bitch Puppy. A feminine head with a dark eye and a keen expression. Strong muzzle with a scissor bite with large teeth. Small ears set correctly on her skull. Reach of neck pleasing and going down into well angulated shoulders. Level top line on the move and on the table. Strong loin with a smart tail set correct. Good bone complimenting the small feet and thick pads. Spanned easily with ribs going right back with a loose thick pelt.

2nd 240 Borderrush The Last Sprout; Miss A J Hall

11 months Blue and Tan Bitch. Otter shaped skull set with dark soft eyes and a keen expression. Scissor bite with a strong muzzle. Good length of neck going down into well set shoulders. Easily spanned and narrow throughout body. Strong loin and correct tail set. Thick jacket and pelt.

4 year Bitch Grizzle and Tan bitch. Short strong muzzle with correct scissor bite. Moderate skull of correct proportions housing a dark keen eye and strong keen expression. Length of neck into well laid shoulders, with a strong loin and correct angulation of the rear legs. Ribs carried well back. Short carrot tail. Harsh coat thick and dense with a thick pelt. 3 year old Grizzle and Tan Bitch. Feminine otter shaped head with kind dark set eyes. Short strong muzzle with correct scissor bite. Ears set correctly on the skull. Neck coming down into laid back shoulders. Straight front legs, narrow along the body. Coming into narrow ribs and a strong loin. Good angulation on the rear legs with a carrot tail set well. Dense harsh jacket paired off with a thick pelt.

7 year old Bitch Grizzle;

Nice moderate sized head with dark eye and correct scissor bite. Good topline and tail set. Shown in harsh double coat and good pelt. Spannable. Moved well back and across.
