Sunderland & District Canine Society

Critique for Rhodesian Ridgebacks – Andria Kerr

Sunderland & District Canine Society Premier Open Show

23rd November 2025

I would like to thank the committee of Sunderland & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge Rhodesian Ridgebacks at their Premier Open Show. I also thank my steward for their efficient assistance in keeping the ring running smoothly. My sincere thanks go to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me.

As always, dogs were judged on the day. Although entries were not large, the overall quality was very pleasing and several exhibits showed much promise for the future.

Puppy Dog/Bitch (1)

1st – Brewis’ Dellared Keep On Moving

6-month-old liver-nosed puppy bitch with good pigment. Stood alone in the class, though this did not detract from her obvious quality. At this stage she is understandably unsettled on the stack, however she shows much promise for the future. Pleasing head with good expression and adequate length of neck flowing into good shoulders. Nice forechest for age. Good first and second thigh with developing muscle. Currently in a leggy stage of development. When settled, she showed glimpses of sound, positive movement. One to watch as she matures.

Junior Dog/Bitch (2)

1st – Mackfall, Mackfall & McIntosh’s Africaner Zavanna Breeze JW

A smart junior with much to like, though still maturing. Presents a pleasing head with correct ear set and good length of neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders. Well ribbed back with good width and depth of thigh. Stands on super feet and is balanced on the move. Well schooled and shown to advantage. A promising youngster who should continue to develop well.

2nd – Hall, Mr L & Mrs CL’s Msingi Fancy That at Cynami JW

16-month-old bitch, again still maturing. Smaller in size than my winner. Nice head, though I would prefer a slightly deeper muzzle. Good forechest with adequate bone. Would prefer a little more ribbing. Shows super width of thigh. Movement not as positive as my winner today.

1st (Best of Breed) – Barker’s Delianza What’s Your Motive

Dog I have judged previously and have always admired. Correct proportions throughout and moderate in all respects. Masculine without exaggeration and presenting a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Has really come into his own now fully matured. Sound, balanced mover who held his shape well. Presented a very pleasing overall picture. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.
