KENNEL CLUB JUNIOR WARRANT QUALIFYING HEAT (27,8 absent)

What a wonderful class of dogs to judge where hairs had to be split. The quality was so high that I first cut to ten excellent examples of their respective breeds before placing the final five.

1. Danks-Kemish & Littlechid’s RAVENSETT JUST AN ILLUSION WITH ALOLFRANA, this orange belton English Setter male caught my eye on first entering the ring and continued to hold it as he is a classic example of moderation with no suggestion of exaggeration. The overall picture screams his breed, being perfectly balanced with ample substance yet intense quality. He has a beautifully detailed head with the kindest expression, strong but gracefully arched neck which flows seamlessly into perfectly laid shoulders. In fact his construction throughout is copybook with correct angulation of front and rear, ample forechest, a firm topline, excellent spring of rib, perfectly set and carried tail and excellent coat that was sensibly presented. On the move he really impressed, being unusually true coming and going and covering the ground with ease in profile. I am sure his title will not be long in coming. 2. Clinton’s Ch AKMAR NAPATANGOLD FOR WESTLAWN, this tricolour Basenji bitch pressed hard and is another who just screams her breed with her gazelle-like elegance, correct length of leg and striking movement. Her head has plenty of work and such a typical expression, her neck is elegantly crested and she holds her topline well on the move. The tail is perfectly set and held with ample shelf whilst her optimum angulation of front and rear shows up when gaiting. Like the English Setter she was in impeccable condition and I can easily understand why she already carries her crown. 3. Williams’ CHARNELL THE RENEGADE SANCANA, what a treat to see a Cavalier male of the correct size – a real Toy Spaniel yet he still combines masculinity with intense quality. His head and expression are simply glorious – dark expressive eyes, perfectly set ears, dense pigment, beautifully finished muzzle and sufficient underjaw. Constructionally he is so well put together with correct angulation fore and aft, he is well bodied with ample bone and his quality coat is well broken. Sound and happy on the move, I am sure he has a very rosy future.
