Omagh & District Canine Club

Breed: Open Show

Adrian Dornford-Smith (FiveNinePlus)

My thanks to Omagh and District Canine Club for the appointment to judge at this warm and friendly local show. The committee is small, yet perfectly formed and worked beautifully as a team to run an efficient, well run and enjoyable show. The ring was compact with a straight mat for safe gaiting.

Irish Setters

A small entry all nicely handled. Very pleasing to see correct oval heads, with no traces of narrowness in all the exhibits.

Class 27 – Open dog

1st, Graham’s Gwendariff Not On Your Nelly. A 13 month old dog. Lovely correct head with oval skull and defined occiput. Coat a very pleasing deep rich chestnut. Feathering straight and flat which may increase in volume with age. Ribs correct width and deep. Perfect tail set and carriage, level to back when moving and held well naturally when standing. Gait definitely free flowing, may be still a trace of youthful exuberance. A handsome, excellent example of this elegant breed and one to watch. BOB.

Class 28 – Open Bitch

1st Thompson’s Ir. Sh. Ch. Ladysdale Maud Gonne To Shilvodan Jun. Ch. JD. Cen., JW. A great example, with bags of ring presence. Neck flowing smoothly into perfect topline. Good deep chest but correctly narrow. Good feathering on chest. Lovely elegant and co-ordinated gait. A stately bitch as the breed should be, in her prime. RBOB

2nd Lavery’s Clannrua Sleibhe. A good example of the breed. Correct oval skull. Correct spring of rib with reasonable depth. Good strong rear pasterns of the correct length. Good length of hair on belly and other feathering correct. Well and sympathetically handled to best advantage.

Pointers

Class 32 – Open Dog or Bitch

1st, Cumming’s Ir. Sh. Ch. Hipoint Foreign Affair With Sevenhills (AI) Jun. Ch. An aristocratic black and white dog. Strong head but not coarse. Lovely black pigmentation on nose and eye lids. Fantastic driving gait, although not exhibiting much side to side tail lash, this may have been due to the compact ring not allowing the dog to cover enough ground at pace. A pleasure to judge especially on the move. Great hindquarters with long first and second thighs. A terrific example of the breed.
