Bernese Mountain Dogs
I would like to thank the officers and committee for the invitation to judge at SKC. Of course, a massive thank you to Melvin for stewarding and flying solo in the ring, ensuring everything was running smoothly, after what was a very long day for him. To the exhibitors for entering and for their sportsmanship and good humour on what was a long day for all. One main observation was that there were many dogs who had excellent profile action and presented a well-balanced silhouette on the stack but there were quite a few dogs who have varying degrees of front action issues, either swinging or moving far too wide. That said the entry overall were of an excellent type and all of which had excellent temperaments.

1ST Bernerexpressens Ivar The Boneless (Imp Swe) (Miss S E Norris). This 8-month-old male presented a balanced outline. He has a flat skull and well-placed ears with a muzzle that would benefit from being a shade broader and a slightly darker eye which would enhance his expression. He has a good breath and dept to chest. His ribcage is well sprung and well ribbed back. His movement was balanced in profile and overall front action just needs to settle. Presented well.

1ST Fortonpark Senator at Mytrue (Ms D & Mr K Reid & Givens) This 17-month-old male is well marked, masculine with the correct bite, almond shaped dark eye. He is well boned, has substance, and he stood well fore and aft. A little more forechest would be to his advantage but he has a good depth to his chest, his ribcage is well sprung and well ribbed back. He moved well in profile, a little close behind, not quite as clean in front action. Handled and presented well.

1ST Bernervalley Lord of Isle (Mr B Carty) This 19-month-old is masculine. He is well boned, strong with substance and has a good width and depth to his chest with a well sprung ribcage, well ribbed back. He has acceptable angles fore and aft although a little weak in pastern. He moved well in profile. He is not quite the balance I was looking but had qualities that won him this class.
2ND Lad’s Supreme Casanova (Mr M A Morse). This 2-year-old male has a flat skull, good bite and dark eye. He stood well fore and aft but would benefit from more angulations overall. He has a good spring of rib, but a little longer in loin. His movement was sound and balanced, but he could do with more reach and drive. Not the balance I was looking for, but overall soundness scored.

1ST Waldershelf Bjorn to Be King JW (Mrs A & Mr I & Mrs E Manix & Manix & English). The masculine dog caught my eye when he came into the ring for his overall balance and type. He is strong, with substance with a masculine head, of correct proportions, with an almond shaped eye all giving him that benevolent expression. He is well boned with good angulations, standing well fore and aft. He has a good breath and depth to his chest and his ribcage is well sprung and well ribbed back. He moves well in profile and behind, just needs to settle in front action. Still a youngster in the context of this breed. Presented and handled well. DCC, his second and I am sure his 3rd is not too far away.
2ND Fortonpark Class Designer (Mrs S King) This boy is masculine with good head proportions. He is strong with substance. He holds a good topline both stacked and, on the move, standing well fore and aft. He is well boned. A shorter loin and cleaner front action would be to his advantage. He moved well in profile.
