Affenpinscher Club

Breed: Affenpinscher

Affenpinscher Club Ch Show 18-10-2025.

A thoroughly enjoyable day, many thanks to the committee for the invitation and exhibitors for bringing their lovely Affenpinschers to the show. I was hoping to find unexaggerated well balanced cheeky little dogs full of their own self-importance, sound both in temperament and body and not too over groomed or stylised. I wasn’t disappointed, some super Affenpinschers here today, particularly in some of the hotly contented bitch classes. Great to find some exciting youngsters which bodes well for the future of the breed and in time once they have grown on and developed further, I think will be giving some of the established champions a run for their money. Likewise, great to see the veterans out and enjoying themselves, just shows how long these little dogs can have a show career.

Baby P D/B (8,1abs) Great class of promising babies all at various stages of development

 1. Gruninger’s Sugarlane Buffalo Soldier. D. Confident young man, and a very good mover for his age, especially from the side where he has lovely lift of his front legs. Liked his well proportioned head, neat ears, the darkest of sparkling eyes well set, and has some width of under jaw with quite a turn up, all giving a cheeky expression. Moderately angulated throughout with a short neck, secure top line, finishing with a well set on and carried tail. A super prospect. 2. McGroaty’s Ferdhu Velma. B. Another lovely youngster and very close up to winner. Feminine nicely balanced head with dark eyes, good chin and turn up giving a delightful expression. Firm top line, quite square in her proportions. with moderate angulation fore and aft, her harsh jacket is developing well. On the move, she lifts her feet nice and high in side gait. 3. McCartney’s Sugarlane Ramble and Roll

PD (1) 1. Merrett’s Venustus Wacky Races. Slightly taller lad, he could perhaps be a little more compact for ideal balance, carrying a naturally harsh jacket which is developing well. Attractive head, nice dome to his skull, neat ears, dark well placed eyes and has some width to his under jaw with a nice chin and blunt muzzle. Moderately angulated throughout with a good top line. On the move, he was little loose in front at the moment, needing to tighten a bit more at the elbows, but he did have lively strutting action lifting his front legs high in profile.

JD. (3)

 1. Shennan’s Ashiblack King Of Swing. Quality youngster with a lively, self-assured attitude. Liked his size, type and well proportioned sturdy body all topped off with a naturally harsh jacket. Attractive head with good furnishings and neat, well-carried ears , good chin and width of under jaw all aiding his monkey-like expression. Short, straight neck leading into well-laid shoulders and a level back and his legs are set well under his body, giving a compact silhouette. Moved very well with the desired lively strutting action lifting his front legs high. Strong contender for RDCC in the dog challenge, just pipped by the more mature dog standing 2nd in open. 2. Wiggins’ Buffels Schwarz Spinne with Scapafield. Quite immature at the moment compared to the winner, needing to fill out a bit more in his fore chest and body, but has all the essentials to make a very nice exhibit once he has matured and gained a bit more confidence. Moderately angulated front and back with a level top line, and well set on tail. Pleasing head with a bright, appealing expression and sparkling, well-set eyes, short muzzle, with good width to his under jaw finishing with a good turn up. Carried himself well on the move with nice lift in profile. 3. Toohey’s Dinahtron Bear With Me.

 YD (3,1abs)

1. Spencer-Gray & Isherwood’s Riogaioch Kings Shilling for Afterglow. Attractive lad, liked his size, type and balanced proportions. Masculine head, nicely proportioned in relation to his body, short muzzle and good chin and turn up. Not always using this ears but they are set on well. Moderate angulations, short neck, level back and well set on tail. Happy and confident mover, he strutted out with purpose with a good side gait with a nice amount of lift at front. 2. Dowsett’s Riogaioch King of Kings at Tteswood JW. Very similar size and type to winner. Attractive head with good furnishings and neat, well-carried ears, good chin and turn up that enhanced his typical monkey-like expression. Square outline with a firm, level top line and slight tuck-up at the loin. Rear quarters well placed under his body, finishing in a well set on tail. Confident showman, he moved out well with good lift at front, rear could be a little tidier moving away.

 ND (1)

 1. Buffels Schwarz Spinne with Scapafield. See Junior dog notes.

 PG (3,2abs)

1. Toohey’s Dinatron The Rock. Taller lad with moderate angulations fore and aft and his coat was nicely presented but very natural and harsh and rough in texture. Masculine head in proportion to his body, very dark inquisitive eyes, a fraction long in foreface and ears could be a little smaller for ideal balance. Good front, with elbows carried close, moderate angulation fore and aft. Moved quite well with the desired strutting action, today he wasn’t holding his top line whilst standing or on the move.

 MLD (3)

1. Mumby’s Yorcrechi Has A Dream With Carmichan JW. Liked the size, type and shape of this lad with a lovely self assured attitude. Appealing head with good furnishings, small high set ears and the darkest of eyes, lovely chin and turn up all aiding his monkey-like expression. Short, neck leading into well-laid shoulders and a level back, with moderate angulations front and back. His harsh coat was well presented but still left natural. Scoring highly on his very good movement, with the desired lively light footed strutting action with good lift at front.

 2. Gruninger’s Darkle Vivian Bear Starred. Heavier built lad, and sporting quite a big coat at the moment which can make him a look a little stuffy in the neck. Masculine head, his ears can settle a little, prominent chin and good turn up giving him monkey like expression. Short level back, moderate angulations fore and aft and high set tail which he carries high with a slight curve over his back. Nicely balanced with moderate angulation fore and aft. Moved very well with the desired lively strutting action.

 3. Teasdale’s Tonsarne The Vagabond

 LD (4,2abs)

1. Panton’s Guereza Goody Goody Yum Yum. Pleasing size and shape to this lad who was sporting a harsh jacket with good furnishings. Well proportioned head, with dark eyes, neat high set ears, blunt muzzle and good chin giving him a monkey like expression. He has a square, sturdy body, with good ribbing, firm top line, hind legs well under his body and well set tail, although he was carrying it rather upright rather than a gentle curve whilst on the move today. Sound and typical when moving with light footed, straight legged high lift in front and with minimal drive behind.

2. Cairns & Holmes’ Galicar Private Dick. Lovely boy, initially thought he would be my winner as I liked his square and compact outline and moderate angulations but he was not at all settled on the move today and was tending to crab on the up and down. Pleasing head, nicely proportioned with very dark expressive eyes and enough width of under jaw and turn-up to give him a monkey like expression. Short neck, level back and high set tail which he carried high with a slight curve over his back. His coat was nicely presented but very natural and harsh in texture

OD (7)

. Stewart & Boulcott’s Ch Sugarlane Gibbonback. My star of the day, still only a youngster but showing remarkable maturity and showmanship, he really didn’t put a foot wrong. To coin the phrase, ‘he filled my eye’, well he did, huge amount of presence without any exaggeration, his coat was harsh and well presented without any over trimming. Appealing well-proportioned head, darkest of eyes, correct muzzle length, and prominent chin giving him a cheeky monkey like expression. Well made throughout, with a short, straight neck carried proudly, flowing into correctly placed shoulders, level top line, finishing with a well set on and carried tail. Strutted his stuff on the move with a lively, self-assured attitude and sound as they come with an excellent profile going round. A great ambassador for the breed. DCC and BOB/BIS.

2. McEvoy & Pirrie’s Afterglow Bat In The Belfry for Guereza. Another quality youngster with so much to like, especially his temperament with the totally self confident and lively attitude, you can see he has the required comic seriousness in abundance. Appealing well balanced head, with the most mischievous, monkey-like expression. Dark, well-set eyes of correct shape and neat ears complete the picture. Short, straight neck into a well-constructed front and nicely sprung ribs. Compact in body with a short loin and moderately angulated rear finishing with well set on and carried tail. Coat of good harsh texture and well presented. Moves parallel away and back and lifts his front legs nicely as he strutted around the ring. It was a hard decision between these two boys, the winner just had that extra little bit of sparkle today, but a close run thing. RDCC. 3. Shennan’s Ashiblack Black Caviar JW.

 VD (3)

1. Shennan’s Ch Ashiblack Double O’Seven JW. Only just into veteran at 7 yrs, liked the size and shape of this alert and active boy with a confident and self assured attitude. Appealing head, with good furnishings, small high set ears, dark eyes and lovely chin and turn up giving him a typical monkey like expression. Short, neck leading into well-laid shoulders and a level back, with moderate angulations front and back. Finishing with a well set on and carried tail. Coat of a good harsh texture. Carried himself particularly well on the move, parallel away and back with very good typical lift in front. BVD

2. Dowsett & Jackson’s CH Avantgarde Italy’s Secret with Tteswood JW SHcex OSW. Another nice sized lad with an attractive head, nice dome to his skull, neat ears, dark well placed eyes and has some width to his under jaw with a nice chin and blunt muzzle. Moderately angulated throughout, and shown in good harsh jacket, not quite holding his top line as well as the winner today. Positive and confident mover with some lift at front.

 3. Todhunter’s Buffles Manages Nicely

 MPB (3)

1. Cary’s Carycares Xmas Carol. Just 8 months, this promising young lady caught my eye for her size, type and well balanced square profile. Very feminine head which is still developing, with small high set neat ears, the darkest of eyes and quite a good width of under jaw and chin. Moderately angulated throughout with a short neck, secure top line and nicely set on and carried tail. Coat of good harsh texture and well presented. Such a charming character, lively and animated and a super showgirl, her tail never stopped wagging as she strutted around the ring. Just needs to tighten a little in front, but has a nice lift in profile.

2. Teasdale’s Tonsarne Violette Szabo. Also eight months but not as mature in the body or coat as the winner as yet but has all the essentials to be a very nice exhibit. Feminine head, with a bright, appealing expression and sparkling, well-set eyes, short muzzle, with good width to her under jaw with a good turn up. Moderately angulated front and back with a level top line, and well set on tail. Carried herself well on the move with a nice front lift in profile, just needing a bit more time to develop further and gain in confidence.

3. Marsh’s Wizabeanie Anna Banana

 PB (2)

1. Santoriello & Isherwood’s Afterglow Alma’s Not Normal for Pinicho JW. Two very nice girls, the winner having the edge in terms of maturity. This young lady has quality stamped all over her, ideal size and unmistakeable in outline and full of personality. She has remarkable confidence and maturity for her tender age with a very self assured attitude. Lovely for size, sturdy and  square in profile with moderate angulations front and back. Lovely head, very feminine, with small high set ears, darkest of sparkling eyes, with enough width of under jaw and prominent chin to give her a cheeky monkey like expression. Well made throughout, with a short, straight neck smoothly fitting, into correctly placed shoulders, firm level back, finishing with a well set on and carried tail. Came into her own on the move with her classic lively strutting action. BPB and BPIS.

2. Cary’s Carycares Jilly Jingles. Very pretty girl, younger and less mature in the body than the winner at the moment but with lots of potential. Liked her feminine well proportioned head, high set neat ears, dark sparkling eyes and she has some width of under jaw with quite a good turn up, all giving her a cheeky expression. Moderately angulated throughout with a short neck, secure top line, finishing with a well set on tail, although she was carrying it a bit close over her back whilst on the move. Happy and confident mover, she strutted out with purpose with a good side gait and a nice amount of lift at front.

 JB (4,2abs)

1. Wiggins’ Datiro Forgibbon Fruit for Scapfield. Two very nice girls who I later found out are litter sisters with much to like about both of them and it was a tough choice, just felt this one had the better finish to her chin and turn up although she wasn’t as well bodied as her sister. Very pretty well balanced head, with a mischievous, monkey-like expression. Dark, well-set eyes of correct shape and neat ears complete the picture. Moderately angulated, with a short neck, firm top line and well set on tail. Carried herself well on the move, parallel away and back and she lifts her front legs nicely as she strutted around the ring. A happy showgirl with typical comical attitude.

2. Hick’s Datiro Gibbonchase. Equally nice young lady, again with lots of promise. Sturdy and compact in outline with moderate angulations front and back. She also had very good movement, strutting soundly and confidently both away and back and her side gait shows she has a nice lift in front. Feminine head with a slight dome to her skull, neat ears, dark well placed eyes and she has quite good width to her under jaw. Short, straight neck into a well-constructed front and nicely sprung ribs, level back finishing with well set on and carried tail. Coat of good harsh texture and well presented. It was a close call and they could swap places on another time.

 YB (4,1abs)

1. Pirrie & McEvoy’s Ch Guereza Queen Of The Fairies JW. Stand out girl for me both in her class and the bitch challenge. Full of self assured attitude and big personality. Lovely for size, type with a well balanced sturdy and compact outline topped off with a well presented, but not over trimmed harsh coat with good furnishings to complete the picture. There’s nothing exaggerated about her, moderate angulations, her short neck fitting smoothly into well placed shoulders, level back and well set on tail. Really lovely head, very feminine, with small high set ears, darkest of sparkling eyes, with enough width of under jaw and prominent chin to give her a cheeky monkey like expression. Really comes into her own on the move, which was a joy to watch, lovely strutting action with nice lift in front and stepping well under herself at the rear. An accomplished showgirl. BCC, RBIS and BOS. Her owner reminded me afterwards that I gave her BPIS at a toy group open show nearly a year ago, so I clearly still think highly of her and fantastic to see that she has fulfilled that early promise.

 2. Hick’s Datiro Forgibbon Forget. The third of the ‘Gibbon sisters’ and like her sisters, there’s lots to like about this young lady although she still has some more filling out and developing to do, so she looked immature compared to the winner. Pretty, well proportioned head, neat ears, dark eyes with good chin and turn up that enhanced her monkey like expression . Good neck into well placed shoulders, moderate angulations front and back, just appearing a little bum high whilst standing. Her harsh coat was well presented but still left natural. She strutted out with purpose with a good side gait and a nice amount of lift at front. Just needs time to further develop.

 3. Mitchard’s Wizabeanie Sea Urchin

 NB (2)

1. McCartney’s Sugarlane Haud Yer Wheesht. This appealing girl had the edge in terms of maturity of body. Liked her feminine well proportioned head, high set neat ears, dark sparkling eyes and she has some width of under jaw with quite a good turn up, all giving her a cheeky expression. Moderately angulated throughout with a short neck, secure top line, finishing with a well set on tail, although she was carrying it a tight over her back whilst on the move. Coat in good order and harsh texture. Happy and confident on the move, strutting out with purpose with a good side gait and a nice amount of lift at front.

2. Teasdale’s Tonsarne Violette Szabo- see previous notes.

 GB (3,1abs)

1. Dowsett’s Ashiblack Babushka for Tteswood. Pleasing girl, who had the edge in terms of maturity with a sturdy body and a nicely balanced profile. Pretty nicely proportioned head with small neat ears, dark expressive eyes and enough width of under jaw and turn-up to give her a monkey like expression. Short neck, level back and high set tail which she carried high with a slight curve over her back, all topped off with a naturally harsh jacket. Moderate angulations front and back. Confident on the move with a lively light footed strutting action with good lift at front.

2. Wiggins’ Datiro Forgibbon Fruit for Scapfield. See previous notes.

 PGB (5,3abs)

1. Merett’s Venustus Honour Winner. Too nice girls who were similar in size and shape, I just preferred the tail carriage of the winner. She has a nice square outline with a sturdy body and moderate angulations with slight tuck up at the loin. Pretty head with good furnishings and neat, well-carried ears, good chin and turn up that enhanced her typical monkey-like expression. Short neck, good shoulders and clean front. Well sprung ribs with chest not too deep furnishing with a well set on and carried tail. Her coat was well presented but still left naturally, harsh and rough in texture. She scored well on the move with the desired lively strutting action.

2. Cary’s Carycares The Naughty One. Another honest and unexaggerated little girl who is well made through with moderate angulations and good for size, type and balance. Feminine head with good furnishings and nicely proportioned in relation to her body, short muzzle and good chin and turn up her giving her a monkey like expression. Good legs and feet, well sprung ribs and chest not too deep. Shown in great condition with a lovely harsh jacket that was well presented, without being overdone. Moved very well with the desired lively strutting action just holding her tail a little flat to her back.

 MLB (5,1abs)

1. McGroaty’s Carycares Wilhelmina Ardhub. Quality girl who stood out for me in this class, well bodied and square in profile and sporting a well presented and naturally harsh jacket to complete the picture. She has a lively and self assured air about her, which she demonstrated well when strutting her stuff on the move with a sound performance with a lovely lift in front. Beautiful head, very feminine, with small high set ears, darkest of sparkling eyes, with enough width of under jaw and prominent chin to give her a cheeky monkey like expression. Well made throughout, with a short, straight neck smoothly fitting, into correctly placed shoulders, firm level back, finishing with a well set on and carried tail.

2. Teasdale’s Tonsarne Teatime. Slightly smaller girl and not quite as sturdy in the body as the winner at the moment. She has a lovely head and expression, high set neat ears, dark sparkling eyes and she has good width of under jaw with a good turn up, all giving her a cheeky expression. Moderately angulated throughout with a short neck, secure top line, finishing with a well set on tail. A happy and confident showgirl, she strutted out with purpose with a good side gait and a nice amount of lift at front.

3. Gruninger’s Darkle Buckskin Boots

 LB (5,1abs)

1. Cary’s Carycares Aureli. Now this girl was determined not to be overlooked, and has some serious monkey attitude, she shone out today in this class. Pleasing for size, type and overall balance, nothing exaggerated about her and unmistakeable in silhouette. Liked her self assurance attitude, topped off with a well presented natural harsh coat with good furnishings. Beautiful head, very feminine, with small high set ears, dark well placed eyes, with good width of under jaw and prominent chin to give her a proper cheeky expression. Her short neck fits nicely into well placed shoulders, very good front assembly, level top line and her tail is set on well and carried with a gentle curve. Sound and active on the move with a lovely light footed gait, with a good amount of lift in front. Caught my eye again in the bitch challenge and gave another very good account of herself both standing and on the move to secure herself the RBCC.

 2. Merett’s Venustus Emma Dale. Pretty girl with a nicely balanced outline, well bodied and moderate angulations front and back. Feminine, well proportioned head, neat ears, dark eyes with good chin and turn up that enhanced her monkey like expression. Good neck into well placed shoulders, moderate angulation fore and rear. Well sprung ribs and chest not too deep, moderate tuck up and tail set on well and carried correctly. She strutted out with purpose with a good side gait and a nice amount of lift at front, just a little close behind when going away. Her well presented coat was a good harsh texture.

3. Harrison’s Scapafield Schwarz Swift.

 OB (10,1abs)

1. Hick’s Ch Datiro Gibbontake. What a class! so many lovely girls, I was spoilt for choice, but decisions had to be made and I chose this young lady, she struck me as being totally unexaggerated with pleasing balance to her profile, compact and sturdy and moderately angulated front and back all topped off with a really harsh jacket which is not over trimmed. Very attractive head, very feminine, with small high set ears, darkest of sparkling eyes, with good width of under jaw and prominent chin to give her a charming monkey like expression. Her short, straight neck fits nicely into well placed shoulders, balanced by matching moderate rear angulation and good tail set and carriage. In this class, she strutted out with purpose with a good side gait and a nice amount of lift at front, but didn’t quite put her all in the bitch challenge and didn’t have the animated and outgoing performance of the YB and MLB winners today, that said she is a very good quality and typy girl.

 2. Price & McGroaty’s Afterglow Nora Batty of Kircyan. Close-up, and she also is pleasing for size, type and has a confident, lively temperament and is quite the showgirl too. Very pretty well balanced head, with a mischievous, monkey-like expression. Dark, well-set eyes of correct shape, neat ears, good chin and turn up to complete the picture. She has a short, straight neck into a well-constructed front and nicely sprung ribs. Compact and square in body with a short loin and moderately angulated rear finishing with well set on and carried tail. Shown in great condition with a lovely harsh jacket that was well presented, without being overdone. Moves parallel away and back and lifts her front legs nicely as she strutted around the ring.

 3. Gruninger, Sweigart, King & Truesdale’s Ch Circus Plume for Darkle

 VB (3)

1. Faithful’s Ch Hamlock The Conspirator at Jonevelyn ShCm VW. What a lovely class, it’s great to see the girls still enjoying themselves and all credit to their owners for keeping them in such good condition. Thought this lovely girl totally unexaggerated and very well put together with a sturdy square outline. Feminine head, with slightly domed skull, her dark eyes are clear with a little twinkle, and she has good width to her under jaw, and prominent chin with good turn up giving her a cheeky expression. Pleasing forequarters and moderately angulated hindquarters, holding her top line firm both standing and on the move. Presented in great condition with a naturally presented harsh jacket. She moved out so soundly with the desired lively strutting action lifting her front legs high. Happy showgirl with a lovely self-assured temperament. BVB and BVIS

2. Hill’s Scalene Solitaire VW. This girl was full of beans today and playing her handle up, which did make me smile as it’s great to see her enjoying herself at nearly 11 years, she certainly has the required comic seriousness in abundance. Another honest and unexaggerated little girl. She scores well in silhouette, square and sturdy in build. Pretty head with dark sparkling eyes, blunt muzzle and good turn up. Good legs and feet, she has moderate angulation front and back. Well sprung ribs and chest not too deep. Shown in great condition with a lovely harsh jacket that was well presented, without being overdone. Moved very well when she concentrated, with the desired lively strutting action.

3. Hick’s Carmichael Heidi Hi VW.
