Midland & Northern Counties French Bulldog Club – Championship Show May 11th, 2025 Judge: Vanessa Bryant
Thank you to the Committee of MNCFBC for inviting me and to the Exhibitors for their entries and for the opportunity to go over your lovely dogs and accepting my placings graciously. Thanks also to my efficient stewards Jackie and Richard Mavro- Michaelis who kept everything ticking along nicely and thankfully delays in judging due to ring clashes were kept to a minimum. I thoroughly enjoyed the day.Judging our wonderful breed these days involves not only consideration of the breed standard, but also of the newly updated RKC Breed Health Watch document. This is something that all exhibitors should familiarise themselves with, as it sets out what cannot be overlooked by a judge on the day in relation to breed health. We should all be mindful of this when presenting our dogs in the ring, as obvious signs of skin, mouth and breathing issues cannot be ignored. Despite being a particularly warm spring day, there were no dogs giving me cause for concern with their breathing and Nares overall were acceptable. If I did find one fault that was more prevalent since the last time I judged, it was the number of dogs rather tubular in shape, the standard calls for a well-rounded body and ribs well sprung. The ground in the ring did throw movement off in places and the dried sheep droppings seemed a popular delicacy for some.
BABY PUPPY DOG (3/0) 1st. CASTRUM OSINIUM NO LIMIT (IMP HRV) NAF TAF– SUHAREVA & CRUTTENDEN, MISS S & MR J
Adorable expression on this 5mth old Dark Brindle who has a compact body shape. Dark, round, well placed eyes, prominent stop, and nice dome to forehead with desired fine wrinkling. Well set Bat Ear which are correct for size and shape. Developing width to muzzle, which has just enough viewable in profile. Nice lip placement with upsweep to lower jaw. Well boned straight front. Good length of neck. In side profile he has enough fore chest and well laid shoulders and tight elbows. Good hind angulation with low set hock. Small Tail. His topline is a little flatter than 2nd but overall he scored on balance and movement. He struts the ring like he has been here and done this before. BBPIS
2nd. OLIJAH LUCKY STAR FOR CARKENNAR NAF - ADAM, MRS E J, another 5-month-old Brindle who is developing nicely and has a lovely cobby shape with nice amount of substance, particularly in his hindquarters. Developing squareness to head with good width of muzzle, cheeks and lower jaw with lip placement giving good amount of visible chin. Eyes are dark and wide set level with his well-defined stop. He has better fill under eye than 1st at this stage of development. Large nose pad with good nares. Well boned straight front, feet just need to tighten a little. Good Spring of Rib, short loin, shapely topline leading to well set tail of decent size and a nicely rounded rump, he also has good hind angulation. Not as settled on the move as 1st.
3rd BESTFRENCHIE LOLEK - HANSLOW, LADY L & LORD L
BABY PUPPY BITCH (0)
VETERAN DOG (2/2)
MINOR PUPPY DOG (6/0)
Lovely couple of puppies taking the top two places here and a lot to like about them both, really did come down to nitpicking on the day with 1st just pipping it on being so well schooled.
1st OLIJAH GOING IN DEEP - TIMMS, MISS O - Almost 7 months, Dark Brindle presented in fabulous condition. He has well placed dark eyes of a moderate size set level with his well-defined stop, large nose pad and good nares. Good width to cheek at this stage and overall has a developing squareness to his head. Ears are large and well set and upright, if hyper critical he still needs to grow into them a little, but I felt this should come as his head continues to develop. He has a nice amount of cushioning to his tight lips and a good amount of visible chin. In profile he has a shapely neck of moderate length, good amount of fore chest, depth to brisket and well laid shoulder. Front is straight and has enough bone for his size. He is balanced in shape with his topline having a small rise over his loin to a low set tail and that is complimented by a good underline. He is well angulated in hind quarters. True on the move coming and going and holds his topline in profile. I hope he stays with this balance as he continues to mature and today, I felt he was worthy of the DRCC in particularly good company and BPIS.
2nd KHANIN HIS A VERY NAUGHTY BOY – SMITH & PRATT, MR R, MRS M & MRS J D, Another lovely boy with clear close Fawn coat and well pigmented black mask. There is more of him in substance than 1st, so he needs time to mature into himself. I liked his head properties very much, there is a lovely balance to his masculine square head with good width throughout, well developed cheeks. Fabulous width and depth to muzzle with well cushioned tight lips and enough upsweep to lower jaw. Skull is flat between upright Bat Ears which are of good size and shape. Dark round eyes which give him a lovely melting expression. Well off for bone in his strong front and has good width of chest. He is well ribbed back and in profile his topline has slight rise over loin and is finished with small tail and he has a good underline, shapely hindquarters with good width of thigh. Not as settled on the move as 1st but gave me enough to assess coming and going.
3rdRAVENDANE PADDINGTON BEAR - WALTON, MISS J R
PUPPY DOG (8/1)
1st OSCHALBEN OLYMPUS - HUTCHINSON, MISS S Brindle male of nearly 9 months. Cobby with good substance throughout. Masculine square head with well-muscled cheeks. Strong muzzle of good width and depth and tidy flews with good cushioning. Nose is well-placed, and he has good nares, muzzle is visible in side profile. Good rise to forehead which has enough fine wrinkling when alert. Bat Ears are well set and neat. I would have preferred a darker rounder eye. Lovely squareness in front with good bone to straight legs and neat feet with lovely dark short nails. In profile he has enough length of neck, well laid shoulders, and deep chest. Good spring of rib and a short muscular loin. His topline could rise a little more over his loin. Small low set tail present. Moved well in all directions.
2nd KHANIN NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK - SMITH & PRATT, MR R, MRS M & MRS J D, sadly there were no prizes for the dog that the judge would most like to take home, but I loved him, he lost out purely on maturity. He has a lovely square head with a good wide strong muzzle, lovely upsweep and well-padded tight lips and good mouth. He has a well-placed nose and prominent stop and his dark eye being set level with it. Forehead is broad and finely wrinkled and has well carried Bat Ears which are wide at base. He also has a lovely squareness in front, is well boned with strong pasterns and has good depth and width of chest. Good amount of fore chest visible in profile and his neck is of moderate length with nice arch. He is Cobby with a good spring of rib and topline rounds off nicely over a short loin to a low set tail. Good width and depth to thigh and moderate hind angulation with hocks that are well let down. Moved well and as one would expect for his age.
3rd RAVENDANE PADDINGTON BEAR - WALTON, MISS J R
JUNIOR DOG (8/0)
1st BESTFRENCHIE PIRAT AT MUGGSHOTTS - BONSALL, MRS L – 16-month-old clear coated Brindle Pied, he has a lot of substance in his compact frame. Large mature square head with well-developed muscular cheeks. Good width, depth, and squareness to muzzle. Large well-placed nose with good nares. Dark eye set level with his stop. Bat Ears are of good size and shape and are set upright and parallel with good width of skull between them. Strong boned and straight in front but would prefer tighter pasterns. Ample width to chest, broad across shoulder and he has good spring of rib. He has a strong thick neck with enough length. His topline shows correct rise over loin, with low set small tail. Moderate angulation behind. On the move he is sound and straight coming and going and holds topline in profile, attentive to his handler at all times.
2nd JAFRAK SUGAR RAY FOR GWYNSEL - WILLIAMS, MISS S 14mth old Clear coated Fawn with black mask. He too has a strong square masculine head with good overall proportions. Lovely dark well placed eyes. Muzzle is broad with good depth and is clearly visible in side profile. Tidy lips, which are well padded. Correct rise to his forehead, and he carries his medium Bat Ears well. He is broad in front, and legs are well boned, his pasterns are tight, and he has neat feet. Neck is broad and strong. Topline has a correct rise over his loin and he has a low set tail. He has a gentle cut up to underline. Well let down hocks with enough hind angulation. I preferred the overall front assembly on 1st when stood and on the move.
3rd NARCYZ Z LIPKOWEGO RANCZA AT BESTFRENCHIE (IMP POL) - PLOMINSKA & KIL, MRS D P, MR S K, MISS K P & MR E K
YEARLING DOG (3/0) 3 males of differing types.
1st FRANSTELGO'S LOW RIDER - ROSS & MARRS, MISS V & MS D 22mth old compact brindle with lovely close smooth coat. He is a clean compact dog and scored here for his balanced head properties. Head is square with good width created by his muscular cheeks. Balanced in muzzle proportions and has enough visible in side profile. Good upsweep to lower jaw and a good mouth. Dark eyes of moderate size and well placed and he has a lovely kind expression. Good Nares. Forehead has a nice dome; his ears are carried upright and parallel. Clean in front with good bone, good width of chest. Lovely spring of rib. Strong muscular short loin and a topline which has the correct rise over the loin to low set tail. His hind angulation is typical, and he has well let down hocks. He is fluent on the move.
2nd BINCOMBEFARM MORSMORDRE JW – FRENCH, MRS K, MR N & MISS K P 23month old gorgeously marked brindle male, who presents as a rangier type than 1st but he is well balanced in his frame. He has a good well-proportioned head with required square shape, a good muzzle in side profile, and it is balanced for width and depth, and lower jaw has enough upsweep. Good dentition. Cheeks are well defined. Forehead is domed with good width of skull between his Bat Ears. His eyes are well placed and round. He is balanced in front and rear angulation, has good depth to chest and underline, but could benefit from a little more spring of rib and carrying a little more weight. Lovely topline with gentle rise over his loin and a low set tail of acceptable length. Moved well with free-flowing action, just preferred the overall cobbiness of 1st.
3rd MEMBULLY RAZZLE DAZZLE JW - MEMBURY, MRS T A & MR T M
SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (7/2)
1st LEYENDA MR TUMBLE - BANKS, MRS E – A mature 12-month-old Fawn with Black Mask. Large square head with good width and depth to well-padded muzzle and good amount viewable in profile. Well-developed cheeks. Strong underjaw with enough upsweep. Dark well-placed eyes. Good width of skull and ears are neat and carried upright and parallel. Moderate length of neck. Well boned front, neat feet, and dark nails. Well laid shoulder. Good depth to chest. He has a nice shape in profile and a gentle rise to his topline and small low set tail. Moderate hind angulation. Held topline on move and moved OK coming and going.
2nd KIANSPUCHI DARK STORM TAF - SAUNBY, MISS K M 9-month-old Brindle male repeat from puppy class. He covers more ground than 1st. Head is still developing the required squareness, but has good width to cheeks, and muzzle is wide with good lip placement, and a good amount of visible chin. Dark eyes are set wide and are level with his stop. He has good nares. Forehead has a nice dome and is finely wrinkled, and he has well placed neat Bat Ears. When viewed in front he needs to drop in brisket, but he still has a lot of maturing to do. I would have preferred a straighter front which reflected on the move. He lacked the spring of rib of 1st. His topline is ok and he has a good tail. In rear he needs to develop more muscle and width of thigh, he has well let down hocks.
3rd. SERENANT STAND AND DELIVER FOR CHAREVE - MASSEY, MRS T A & MR D P
NOVICE DOG (2/0)
1st MEMBULLY RAZZMATAZ AT ELLOUAB JW – SMITH, MRS D 19month old well marked Brindle with a lot to like. He has good head properties. Nice width of skull with dome to forehead and required fine wrinkling. Well placed Bat Ears that are carried upright. Dark eyes are set level with his well-defined stop. Good nose placement and nares. He has a well-padded broad muzzle and a good mouth. He is straight in front and is good for bone, just feels he lacks a little on foreleg to balance him in profile. Good length and shape to neck. Well Laid shoulder. Slight rise over loin and a small tail. Muscular in hind quarters and has well let down hocks. It was nice to see him working with his handler today on the move and proving that he can move out well.
2nd MYNTIE PURE MAGIC - COLE, MRS J 14-month-old Brindle male, giving away a lot in maturity to first. He covers a similar amount of ground to 1st. Maturing square head with broad skull and well-placed Bat Ears of correct size and shape. Round dark eyes set in line with his stop. Well-padded wide muzzle but would prefer a tidier lip, as this detracted from his overall look. Head is carried well on his shapely arched neck. Lovely rise over loin and rounds off over croup to a low set small tail. He has enough bone for size. He has a moderate turn of stifle and well let down hocks. I preferred the front assembly and movement on 1st.

2nd SERENANT MAVERICK - BROOKS, MRS L & MR J 2-year-old with close soft Dark Brindle coat, who frustratingly likes to give his handler a hard time. Good spring of rib and topline rises over his loin to low set small tail. Good turn of stifle and low hocks.
