Judges Critique for the German Wirehaired Pointer Club Championship Show 14th June 2025.

     I would like to thank the German Wirehaired Pointer Club for their invitation to judge their Championship Show. The venue at Cheshire County Showground was ideal having a large in/out ring allowing the dogs to be put through their paces. Thank you to my Stewards Angela Cooke & Ian Biggs for keeping things moving along. My thanks go to all the exhibitors who entered their dogs for me to judge.

1 Morris & Evans Beanalrem Gwyndu. 12mth well made young dog with a balanced masculine head. Correct dentition & good earset. Firm topline held on the move. Enough depth of chest for his age, ribs reach well back, deep loin & correct tailset. Well angulated rear quarters with good width & strength of second thigh. Shown in a coat of good harsh texture with undercoat present. Moved well when settled.

1 Lovatt, Lovatt & Gettings Ir Sh Ch Beechillawn Break The Mould. (IKC)cpw’24INT/IR/NLJCHDW’24DJW’24. Almost 2yr old with a lovely masculine head. Good length and depth of muzzle. Well set dark eyes. Head is well set on neck of moderate length leading to well placed shoulders. Balanced angulation all through showing width of second thigh. Lovely bone & tight feet. Correct height to length ratio, which some exhibits lacked. Put down in lovely coat & condition with the correct harsh texture & undercoat present. Super firm level topline & correct tailset held on the move. Showed reach & drive in profile & sound out & back. RDCC.

2 Robson Glenquin Major At Yohenoak. Almost 2yr old slightly bigger & heavier set than the winner. Good head well set on moderate length of neck. Well angulated all through with a good sweep & width of second thigh. Well boned with good feet. Another with an excellent jacket, close fitting & harsh texture. Firm topline held on the move. Moved Ok.

1 Johnston Glenquin The General. Almost 2 yr old with a good masculine head. Lovely dark eyes, correct dentition & close fitting ears. Strong neck of moderate length leads to well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest, ribs reach well back to firm deep loin. Stands on well boned legs & tight feet. Really good coat with required undercoat. Well angulated rear quarters showing good width of second thigh and short rear pasterns. Moved well when settled.

1 Toynebee-Smith Bareve Bronski Beat. 2 yr old with a good masculine head. Dark eye, good length of muzzle & well set ears. Moderate length of neck leads to well placed shoulders. Well angulated all through with width of second thigh & short rear pasterns. Firm level topline & correct tailset . Stands on well boned legs & tight feet. Ribs of good depth reach well back to deep loin. Correct height to length ratio. Close fitting jacket of correct texture with undercoat. Moved well when settled.

2 O’Brien Caldewriver Cold As Ice 2yr old. My notes say similar to winner though slightly smaller in stature. Well balanced with good angulation all through. Stands on straight well boned legs & tight feet. Correct length with a firm level topline held on the move. Well set tail. Moved well. A very nice Wire, today I preferred the slightly more masculine head of the winner.

1 McCullough Kimmax Kiss Ma Blackside At Beechillawn 5yr old well balanced dog with a masculine head. Dark eyes, strength of muzzle & well set ears. Moderate length of neck leads to well laid shoulders & good return of upper arm. Correct length to height ratio. Super coat of harsh texture & undercoat evident. Deep loin, ribs reach well back. Firm topline held on the move with correct tailset. Showed a good reach & drive in profile & sound up & down.

2 O’Connor Sh Ch Karlejay Gump They Live In Yu 6 yr old with a lovely masculine head. Moderate length of neck leads to well laid shoulders & good return of upper arm. Matching angulation behind with a lovely width of second thigh & short rear pasterns. Well boned legs & tight feet. Good coat texture & plenty of undercoat. Firm topline & well set tail. Moved out well from any angle.

1 McCullough Sh Ch/Deu/VDH Ch Kimmax Curious George BS17/18. 9 yr old who presents an imposing picture on the stack & he does not disappoint on closer inspection. Lovely masculine head having length & strength of muzzle, dark eyes & strong teeth. Moderate length of neck leads to well placed shoulders. Well laid shoulder blade with return of upper arm placing his forelegs under his withers. Good depth of chest. Ribs reach well back to firm loin. Super topline & tailset held on the move. Well angulated rear quarters with strength & width of second thigh. Excels in profile movement & totally belies his veteran status. DCC BOS RBIS BVIS

2 Donnelly Sh Ch/Ir Sh Ch Kimmax Knock Yourself Out JW ShCM 8 yr old with a good masculine head. Dark eyes & length of muzzle. Well laid shoulders, firm topline & well set tail. Stands on well boned legs & tight feet. Good width of second thigh. Another good coat, close fitting & harsh texture. Moved ok.

1 Geary Becka Dreams Of Little Prince At Germanus (Imp Hun) 12mth with a pretty feminine head, eyes still to darken. Neck of moderate length fits well into shoulders. Balanced angulation all through. Stands on straight legs with good bone & tight feet. Good coat texture. Moved OK

2 Vine & Hassel Beanalren Grapevine 12 mth with a feminine head, again eyes still to darken. Good length to height with good depth of chest. Good coat. Balanced angulation all through with a good width of second thigh. Moved OK

1 Cox Ijilcez Vom Holstef At Ovetil 22mth with a lovely feminine head well set on neck of moderate length. Well placed shoulders. Well angulated all through with a good width of second thigh . Deep chest, ribs reach well back to a firm deep loin. Level topline & well set tail. Super coat being harsh lying close to her body with undercoat. Moved really well in profile.

2 McCullough Beechillawn Bed Of Roses At Kimmax (IKC) almost 2yr old with a feminine head. Well angulated all through. Stands on well boned legs & tight feet. Her coat was a bit in-between today. Moved well

1 Geary Germanus Stands Out A Mile 4yr old what a super bitch. The best of heads with dark eye , length & strength of muzzle & kind expression. Neck of moderate length leads to well placed shoulders. Really well angulated all through with strength & width of second thigh. Correct length to height ratio. Deep chest, ribs reach well back to firm deep loin. She stands on well boned straight limbs with short rear pasterns & tight feet. Presented in tip top condition with an excellent coat. Sound from any angle she ticked all my boxes today. BCC & BIS

2 Turnbull, Turnbull,Turnbull & Keene Kimmax Two Kan Play At Elagram(AI) 4yr old with a lovely feminine head. Dark eyes & well set ears. Neck flows into well placed shoulders. Correct height to length ratio. Firm topline & well set tail. Deep chest. Stands on straight well boned limbs. Very good coat. Good width of second thigh & short rear pasterns. Moved out well.

Firm level topline held on the move. Presented in lovely coat & condition. She moved out well showing reach & drive in profile. Close up for top honours.

2 McCullough Sh Ch Kimmax Kindly Stand Black 5yr old another very nice feminine bitch. Beautiful head well set on neck of moderate length, dark eyes & depth & strength of muzzle. Chest deep. Well angulated all through with width of second thigh. Firm topline & well set tail. Well presented coat of correct harsh texture & undercoat. Moved well.

2 Donnelly Sh Ch/Ir Sh Ch/Int Ch Beechillawn Oooh Betty 8yr old, l/w, lovely head with dark eye. Well angulated all through. Stands on straight well boned legs & tight feet. Her coat was in between stages today. Moved well.
