WELKS – CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 26 APRIL 2025
Venue – Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern
Golden Retriever Dogs
My sincere thanks and gratitude to the WELKS hard working committee for allowing me to judge the dog entry at this prestigious championship show. Thank you also to my 2 ring stewards for their help and support throughout the day. All exhibitors were a pleasure to deal with in the ring and a credit to this wonderful breed. Thank you also to my co-judge Bekki Williams who I enjoyed meeting and having honest and helpful discussions with during all the challenges in the dog ring. On the down side, I had 4 exhibits with incorrect bite and 5 exhibits I considered to be overweight.

1. White’s Ninell Indiana Jones of Alandiagold. At 7½ years this veteran was sympathetically but effectively handled both when stood and on the move. Presented in full light golden coat, he has an attractive head and pleasing expression. Sound in shoulder with good reach of neck he has a good top line, which was maintained on the move and presented a pleasing profile.
2. White’s Forbendale Ice Bear. Well presented in light golden coat and approaching 10 years of age, he was clearly happy on his day out. Although I preferred the overall structure of my 1st place, this veteran nevertheless gave a good account of himself and moved well over uneven ground.

1. Taylor & Tenns’ Non-Stop Duncan Macleod From Strettonhill. At 7 months to the day, this eye-catching minor puppy was steady and confident in the ring and showed himself well throughout. Attractive head and soft expression with a good neck and well laid shoulders, which flowed into a level top line and tail set. Although still developing he moved well and displayed good potential for the future.
2. Smith’s Goldmarker Alderbaran. This 7 month young dog is of bigger build but not so far on in development as my 1st place. Good conformation and sound construction with well angulated front, nicely laid shoulder and sufficient reach of neck. Good top line and tail set with correct rear angulation. He now needs to work on movement as he develops.
3. Thomas’ Santandore Mandalay Again.

1. Vincent’s Wise King Tywin of Sunshine Valley (ATC BB95695680BEL). At just over 2 years, this outstanding youngster caught my eye as he entered the ring and was the only unseen dog in the class. Sympathetically and professionally handled, he was beautifully presented in a well textured golden coat by an enthusiastic and confident young handler. Nice balance throughout with an attractive, chiselled head and straight front legs. His strong neck was laid on well placed shoulders and correct upper arm, which flowed nicely into a good top line and correct tail set producing a clean and eye catching outline. Nicely angulated and strong rear quarters produced straight and level movement.
