Special Awards Classes

I am greatly indebted to the Basset Hound of Scotland for their most kind invitation to judge the Special Awards Classes and for their support, along with the other Basset Hound Clubs, resulting in being approved to award my 1st set of CC’s in this lovely breed in 2027.

Junior D/B 8,2

A quality class of youngers.

1. Blevins’s Blevwil Bradwell, D. 6 months. Of balanced proportions and enough substance for age. Attractive head with dome and prominent occiput. Clean, correct eyes. Ears set on low and of good length. Neck is well arched. Shoulder blades well laid. Deep chest, strong front and rear angulations. Secure backline, clean underline with sufficient clearance. Good for tail set. On the move he really came into his own and was impressive. I note from the Championship Show results he was awarded Best Puppy in Show.

2. Melbourne and Murray’s Diheath Cracker. D. Now 10 months and is maturing nicely since I last judged him. Head contains clean attractive eyes. Well placed, long ears. Correct dentition. Strong short forelegs. Nicely bodied with clearance under. Topline to settle. Enough neck. Moved steadily but just needs to firm up. Unlucky to meet 1.

3. Johnston’s Burnvale Echoes and Shadows. D. Completed a trio of lovely youngsters. Loved his head for masculinity and expression. Well-made throughout; super length of neck. Well bodied with ample spring of ribs. Enough ground clearance. Moved OK.

Post Graduate D/B 7,2

1. Melbourne and Murray’s Diheath Chekov. JW. D. 2 years. My notes say ‘All male’. Since I last judged him, is head has matured. Clean well set eyes; long well placed ears. Muscular neck into well laid shoulders. Body of good length with depth of ribs. Hocks well let down. Tail is well set and carried correctly. Impressive on the move.

2. Melbourne, Murray and Fitzpatrick’s Diheath Martha, B. 2 years old, litter sister to 1. Feminine head, good eye shape and colour. OK for length of neck; good forechest, correctly placed elbows and well-sprung ribs. Firm loins, well-angulated rear. In excellent condition. Sound, careful mover which gave her the edge over 3.

3. Johnston’s Burnvale Echoes and Dreams, B. R/W. She is so well balanced and feminine but not without substance and bone. Presented in great condition. Scores in head and expression. Well bodied. Clean front; secure topline and well set tail. Good for ground clearance. She was unsettled on the move and could have done more.

Open D/B 12,5

1. Blevin’s Ch Ir Ch Blevwil Heres to Harriett, B. 2 years old. Impressive headpiece with moderate tapering to muzzle. Clean, correctly shaped eyes. Lengthy neck. Long deep body with firm top line. Sturdy legs with feet having sloping pasterns. Well let down hocks. Short, smooth coat. She is particularly impressive on the move, demonstrating an easy forehand reach with powerful thrust from well angulated hindquarters. One for the future.

2. Johnston’s Blevwil Ron Like The Wind to Burnvale (IKC), D. 22 months. Another super youngster of great make and shape. Impressive head qualities; ears well set and of correct shape. Well sprung ribs of ample length; holds a secure topline. Moderately angulated rear; powerful hocks. Tail is well set and carried. 1 just had the edge in movement, but there is a lot more to come. Close call.

3. Miller’s Mandala Z Sennej Krainy of Tayjinx (Imp Pol). B. Appealing expression from a well-shaped head; good for muzzle and nose placement. Keen eyes. Strong neck, elbows well placed. Presented in great condition. Moved OK.
