Breed: Border Collie

Thank you to the exhibitors for a lovely entry of bitches, I was pleased with the overall quality, and certainly there are some exciting bitches out there. Angulation and necks have much improved, and the gracefulness seems to be returning to our breed which should be athletic not cloddy. One aspect that did surprise me were bites, several dogs were only just showing a correct scissor bite, a few were level, and one was neither. Breeders should take care not to be excessive in looking for a moderate/strong muzzle, if the muzzle is too short then there will be insufficient room in the jaw, missing PM1/2 are not uncommon in the breed, but we don’t want to see level bites being the norm.

SBB (5,1) 1. LEA’s Calareto All My Loving JW, pleasing outline, of good proportions and sloping croup, low set tail. Attractive feminine head with well-defined stop. Correct oval dark eye. Well coated and good angles and neck, moved with correct reach and drive. 2. SPURR’s Dreamwork Notorious, 15 months and still raw, but really nice proportions and outline and is well angulated with super reach of neck. Attractive head, with good stop and lovely ears, used well. Moved well in profile just needs to tighten, which will come as she matures. 3. BRITTON’s Bordabears Striking Love. MPB (5,1) MERCER’s Kirkwind Secret Soul, very much a baby but is correct for her age, well boned legs, would prefer slightly more oval feet. Well angulated in front – just to drop a little in stifle. Good coat. Very attractive head with good stop, strong muzzle and well developed skull. Alert expression and super character. Best move in the class with the ground covering stride. 2. MACDONALD & TURNER & ALEXANDER’s Portnadoran Special Recipe, pleasing proportions and outline. Well coated. Well angulated with good reach of neck. Head is promising for balance to muzzle. Not as settled in the hall as winner. 3. MACDONALD & TURNER & ALEXANDER’s Portnadoran Family Recipe. PB (4) 1. WILKINSON’s Altricia Day Dream, promising class of puppy bitches, which bodes well for the breed, the winner was the most mature in the class, excellent shape and outline well coated and with good bone. Stands on correct oval feet. Well angulated front and rear, with good reach of neck. Good skull, balanced to muzzle, was little reluctant to user ears in noisy hall. Excellent mover, good long stride and smooth and easy carriage BPIB & PG2. 2. AUSTIN & ZOLAKOVA’s Hysteps That'll Do, lots to like, little older, well grown, of correct type, lovely to see a non-classically marked dog in the ring. Well angulated and well boned. Attractive head of good proportions. Another very typical mover in profile with good length to stride. 3. MURFET & OLIVER’s Amanda Tambuzi Guess Who's Back. JB (4, 2) 1. GREEN & GREEN & RATCLIFFE’s Borderpride Laced In Truth By Fayken, excellent in profile, with flowing outline and good croup and tail set. Super presentation. Excels for angulation, correct strength of bone for bitch and stands on oval feet. Very feminine head, good width to skull and lovely set of ears, oval eye with bright and alert expression. Excellent typical effortless ground cover on the move, with the super upward swirl of tail RCC. 2. Dreamwork Notorious. YB (9) 1. FAWCETT’s Laceway Breaking Waves, one I have admired, and she doesn’t disappoint on handling, not quite in full coat today which cost her top honours but certainly means you can appreciate her construction. Lovely in profile, with smooth flowing outline. Excellent angles and good neck. Stands four square and is attentive to handler with super alert expression. Clean head, with oval eye and good stop. Lovely free mover with excellent extension. 2. GREEN & RATCLIFFE’s Arrodare Fire It Up, another quality bitch, very typical in profile, with flowing outline, excellent angles and neck. Well developed in chest. Correct strength of bone for bitch. Shown in good coat and condition. Good width to skull, and lovely ear. Another who moves well, and has that correct length of stride with minimal lift, could go all day. Just preferred expression of winner. 3. WELCH’s Yvonne Simmovon Reason Too Dream JW. NB (6) 1. SHERWIN’s Chikaramor Carry On, well boned bitch, pleasing outline and with good slope of croup and low set tail. Well angulated front and rear. Lovely head and expression, good stop and oval eye, brown in colour, muzzle has strength without being overdone. Moved very soundly – with good length to stride. Thought her very typical for the breed. With better presentation and handling would be able to really make a mark. 2. Hysteps That'll Do. 3. Tambuzi Guess Who's Back. GB (8) 1. FAWCETT’s Laceway Bottom's Up, larger framed bitch, but well balanced and correct proportions in outline, well boned to correct oval feet. Attractive head, good stop and eye shape and uses ears well. Well angulated front and rear – nice to see a long tail. Moved well with plenty of reach. 2. ALLISON’s Wenmap Topkapi Gem, feminine bitch, ok in profile but maybe shade long in back, good croup. Well boned to correct feet, good angulation. Attractive clean head, oval eye and well-defined stop. Attentive to handler. Clean mover in all directions. 3. Chikaramor Carry On. PGB (5,1) 1. WALKER’s Ravenskirk Pretty In Pink, bigger bitch and shade long in back. Good coat and well boned legs to good oval feet. Well angled front and rear and has plenty of reach to neck. Head is well proportioned with good stop and oval eye. Moved well in profile, just needs more drive behind. 2. DODD’s Molumiki Down In Upendi, blue tri, good size and balanced in outline. Correct bone and feet. Head has good width and stop, eye a little round. Needs to broaden in chest. Not as tidy on move. 3. MANN’s Borderpride You Got The Love. LB (18,6) 1. LEE & RATCLIFFE’s Arrodare Rebel With A Cause JW, excellent shape, good proportions lovely smooth outline with super croup, and good to see length of tail, excellent angulation and enough coat for the breed. Plenty of reach of neck, attractive head, well defined stop clean cheeks and good proportion of muzzle, oval eye, used ears well. Another who excels on move – with correct extension and effortless stride. 2. Calareto All My Loving JW. 3. SMITH’s Arrodare Seen It In Colour. OB (16, 1) 1. GREEN & RATCLIFFE’s Sh Ch Fayken I Am Here JW, lovely class of bitches, lots of quality to choose from, my winner a good size bitch with strong bone, in excellent coat. She has super outline and is well angulated front and rear with good neck. Attractive head, correct oval brown eye, well defined skull and strong rounded muzzle. She is lovely watch on the move, clean and has great extension, serious contender for top honours. 2. FAWCETT’s Sh Ch Laceway Raise The Roof, attractive in profile and stands four square on well boned legs. Very attentive to handler, showing off her qualities, super angulation and good neck. Attractive, clean head, good stop, correct eye shape, neat ears used well. Moved well in profile, with effortless stride, just being picky not as much drive behind as winner. 3. GREEN & RATCLIFFE’s Sh Ch Arrodare Beautiful Trauma. VB (6) 1. ARAN’s DK Ch Int Ch Vet Ch Karma My Mica Of Green Borderline, another super class, this breed has great longevity, and it shows when the veteran class is as good as this one was. Amazing condition for 11 years old. When this bitch walked into the ring I thought – that’s my type of border collie. She is so balanced, her outline accentuates her smooth flowing lines, and her tail flows to the ground. Superb construction with strong angles and reach of neck, which are put to good use as she moves with ground covering strides and the typical low head carriage. Her head is clean, nothing overdone, good stop and brown oval eye, used her ears well, totally in tune with handler. I realised afterwards that this is the bitch I gave BOB to in Austria in 2017, and today she could not be denied the BCC & BVIB. 2. GREEN & RATCLIFFE’s Sh Ch Fayken I Am Love JW, quality bitch but a different type to winner, being heavier in bone and coat, so not as athletic as I would like, but no denying she is very well put together, with great angles, perhaps not quite the reach of neck as winner. Her head is well proportioned and eye shape is correct, little dark in eye, super ears, used well. She is powerful and sound on move with good extension but couldn’t quite match stride of winner. 3. LEE & RATCLIFFE’s Sh Ch Arrodare Royal Flush JW
