Working Group

It was a pleasure to judge the Working Group at this friendly, well-run show. I thought it was a strong group with some difficult decision to be made.

For the top spot I chose Blake’s Newfoundland, Ch Sandbears Masterpiece. He was my BOB winner just a few weeks ago at Darlington and today, I thought he looked magnificent. Very satisfying to handle as he is powerfully made and shown in good muscle tone. Good breadth of skull, clean eyes and good muzzle. Excellent forehand with breadth and depth of chest. Some breadth over the back and strong loins. On the move he really comes into his own with a flowing, strong action.

Runner up to the Newfoundland was Thomas and Studholme’s Leonberger, Ch Amathus Karmer. Like the winner his movement is so impressive for a big dog. Moved out with real freedom and some drive. Good breadth and depth of skull. Clean, dark eyes with a gentle, benevolent expression. Beautifully balanced with depth of chest and good ribbing. Strong, well angulated hindqaurters.

Group 3 was Mair’s young Boxer, Ch Sulez Striker at Glenauld JW. A real stallion in very good muscular condition. Clean head, well padded muzzle and good dentition. Nicely arched, muscular neck. Well defined withers. Strong, well angulated hindquarters and he used these well on the move with plenty of drive evident.

Group 4 was Williams Russian Black Terrier, Evrussky Black Widow (ai). This is another I have given top honour to in the past and she is a great ambassador for the breed. Strong, broad skull, neat well-set ears. Cleran, powerful neck and good depth of brisket. Very good hindquarters and she impresses on the move.

Additionally I also shortlisted Lambert & Eastham’s Bouvier Des Flandres, Ch Quiche's Xplorer Treks to Bouvpilot (Imp Can). The Great Dane, Clark’s Ch Garsak Summer Days at Mintrex. The Rottweiler, Dunhill-Hall’s Ch Fantasa Lucky Seven and the St Bernard, Deegan and Grainger’s Ch Chandlimore Boys Night in.
