I was privileged to be invited to judge all seven Junior Groups and Best Junior in Show at this prestigious show. My sincere thanks and congratulations go to Bill King, David Bell and the entire Birmingham team for a great show. I had excellent stewards every day and I was extremely impressed with many of the dogs who competed. My overall winner was the stunning Whippet bitch with the lively, handsome Miniature Schnauzer taking the reserve spot.
Toy Group - Junior
1st : 2988 LYONS, Mr Lynden & LYONS, Mr Mackenzie Ch Bryelis Let's Go Girls Avec Shengson - CHINESE CRESTED - Bitch. I judged her when she was a baby puppy and thought she was beautiful and she has fulfilled her early promise. Well balanced with a lovely head and great ear set and carriage. Clean neck of good length and well laid shoulders. Excellent body and rib and a fine, clear skin. Sound and elegant on the move.
2nd : 3456 PIKE & CARTER, Mrs & Mrs Julie & Ashlie Altina's Georgia On My Mind At Breezelyn - POMERANIAN - Bitch. Pretty head and expression with neat ears. Good barrel, harsh outer coat and high set, well carried tail. A keen and attentive showgirl who is sound and typical on the move.
3rd : 2662 SHENNAN, Miss V Ashiblack King Of Swing - AFFENPINSCHER - Dog. A lovely youngster with a fairly small head, dark sparkling eyes and neat ears. Short backed with good spring of rib and very moderate angulation. Moved well with a typical strutting action.
4th : 2853 WILKINS, Mr Connor & WILCOCK, Mr Kieran Llapsttam Four Tea Love At Tebaldi - CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL - Bitch. A really pretty toy spaniel with a delightful head and large, dark gentle eyes. Good forehand, well padded feet. Good body and ribbing. Moved well with some drive apparent.
Working Group - Junior
1st : 101 CARTER, Miss & Miss S & S Farvalley Major Luke At Susancar - RCC - BOXER - Dog. Really handsome and masculine with a lovely head, Clean skull, well padded muzzle, lively expression. Clean, nicely arched neck and excellent forehand. Neat feet. Good depth of chest and strong short, back. Moved with a powerful, easy action.
2nd : 406 MCDONALD, Ms S Sandbears Dreams And Wishes - NEWFOUNDLAND - Bitch. Has a real air of quality and she is beautifully balanced and soundly made. Broad skull, good head proportions. Strong, well boned legs and good feet. In excellent condition.
3rd : 164 JONES, Mrs Amy King Of The Manor By Sundabish - BULLMASTIFF - Dog. Good sized skull, good breadth of muzzle and pleasing underjaw. Neat ears. Good breadth and depth of chest. Firm toppling. Pleasing on the move.
4th : 273 GRIFFIN, Ms P Philoma When Harry Met Remy - GIANT SCHNAUZER - Bitch. Giving away a little in age here but presents a very pleasing picture with her good head, long clean neck and slightly sloping toppling. Well angulated and she makes good use of her hindquarters on the move.
Pastoral Group - Junior
1st : 1110 BEE, Mrs A J Rosskaja Ginjo Pearl For Snowbiscuit Jw - SAMOYED - Bitch. Beautifully balanced, with a really “happy face”! Broad skull, well furred ears and good pigmentation. Fair breadth and good depth of chest and she is well ribbed. Typical feet. Moved well with an easy, powerful action.
2nd : 826 RYAN, Ms Jo Fostebrie Pure Binoche For Badgerhurst - BRIARD - Bitch. Well balanced and typical with a good skull and strong muzzle. Good breadth and depth of chest. Well angulated and shown in good muscle tone.
3rd : 1303 DOWN, Miss J Elessar Eclipse The Stars - WELSH CORGI (CARDIGAN) - Bitch. A delightful character, good head proportions and fairly large, well set ears. Strong bone, good feet and well laid shoulders. Sound and free moving.
4th : 1175 FORBES, Mrs L Degallo The Prodigy - SHETLAND SHEEPDOG - Dog. Attractive head and expression with well carried ears and nicely shaped eyes. Nicely arched neck and wellvshoulders. Good toppling with typical sweep over the loins. Tail of good length.
Hound Group - Junior
1st : 2500 MORRIS, Mrs L D & WADDELL, Mr GEORGE & SPADEMAN, Crosscop Temptation To Supeta - WHIPPET - Bitch. Wow, what a stunning youngster. The most lovely feminine head and expression, good length of neck and depth of brisket. Presents a lovely graceful outline with some strength over the loins and well angulated, powerful hindquarters. Very impressive on the move. Best Junior in Show.
2nd : 2242 MERRYWEATHER, Miss Laura & FLETCHER, Mr Samuel & H Vaskurs Lady Gaga Qarmadotter Von Ynchreenoo (Swed - PHARAOH HOUND - Bitch. I confess to having a soft spot for a Pharaoh and this bitch is a high quality, lovely youngster. Clean, typical outline with an alert, pleasing expression. Good legs and feet. Moved well with an easy, fluid action.
3rd : 2029 AKEHURST, Mrs Cheryl Tendrow Down To The Wire - DACHSHUND (WIRE-HAIRED) - Dog. Beautifully presented harsh jacket but still workmanlike and appearing capable of a morning’s work. Good length of head, strong powerful jaw. Good forehand with quality bone and good keel. Strong hindquarters with some drive on the move.
4th : 2176 CARTER, Mrs Amanda Ch L-wynd's Where The Shadow Ends (Imp USA) JW - IBIZAN HOUND - Dog. He was my CC winner earlier this year and he is a super example of the breed. Beautifully balanced, rerachy neck and good forehand. Moderate angulation. Very typical on the move and he shows to good advantage.
Terrier Group - Junior
1st : 5281 MAIDMENT, Mrs Lyn & MAIDMENT, Miss Bethany Berrybreeze Wisdom - SCOTTISH TERRIER - Dog. Clean, lengthy head with neat well set ears and a keen expression. Sturdy, well slung body with good ribs which extend well back. Moved well with a powerful, easy fluid action. Presented in good form and shows to advantage.
2nd : 5241 MITCHELL, Miss Rhianne Foxfur Espionage For Rodzina - PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER - Dog. Has a real air of quality. Beautifully balanced and moved well with a powerful stride. Good pelt and spans easily.
3rd : 4990 FRANCE, Ms Meriel Kiti's Band Take The Lead To Torbrae Ejw25 (Cze I - DANDIE DINMONT TERRIER - Dog. Shown in a good jacket and masculine head with breadth of skull and lovely eyes. Decent forehand with well laid shoulders and good bone. Well ribbed and has some strength over the loins. Free moving with some drive from the rear.
4th : 5298 BETTIS, Mrs Denise & BETTIS, Mr Leonard Whooperhill Sand Dollar With Ornella - SEALYHAM TERRIER - Dog. Giving away a lot in age here but he is a promising youngster who has all the essentials. Shows to good advantage.
Utility Group - Junior
1st : 4185 BRAITHWAITE, Mr Thomas Ch Wellingley Won For The Road - CC - MINIATURE SCHNAUZER - Dog. Reserve Best Junior in Show. Shown in tip top condition but underneath the well prepared harsh jacket is a soundly made, beautifully balanced dog. Grand head and alert expression. God body with typical toppling and good ribs which extend well back. Strong, well angulated hindquarters. Moves freely with plenty of drive.
2nd : 4419 GARDNER, Mrs Julie Ann & GARDNER, Mr M J Mijujo Costa Fortune - SHAR PEI - Bitch. Broad, flat skull, clean dark eyes and good breadth of muzzle which is well padded. Decent breadth dnd depth of chest. Unexaggerated and well balanced. Moved with a sound, easy action.
3rd : 4280 BARKER, Mrs Linda & BARKER, Miss Fenella & BARKER, Kamarri Let's Go Barbie To Crystalar JW - POODLE (STANDARD) - Bitch. A real glamour girl with an lovely head of good length, some chiselling and dark, intelligent eyes. Good leathers. Shapely with a good neck and strong body. Well angulated. Excellent coat and condition. Moved well with a light, easy action.
4th : 3930 TIMMS, Miss Olivia Olijah Going In Deep - FRENCH BULLDOG - Dog. Sturdy and masculine with a broad skull; rounded, well set ears. Good muzzle with well padded lips and decent sized nostrils. Shapely body and absolutely sound and typical on the move.
Gundog Group - Junior
1st : 5868 HARPER, Mr J P & HARPER, MRS E J Pitswarren Tempus Viator (ai) JW - HUNGRIAN VIZSLA - Dog. Very classy. Beautifully balanced with a lovely clean outline. Good head proportions, kind expression. Excellent forehand with good fore chest and depth of brisket. Slight tuck up. On the move he is foot perfect and most impressive.
2nd : 5582 MCANDREW, Miss Seonaid & COOPER, Mr Allan Gunsyn Supercala In Brackenmist Jw - BRACCO ITALIANO - Bitch. Feminine and well balanced with a typical head, divergent planes, clean eyes. Gentle, double dewlap and good depth of chest. Well boned with good feet. Good on the move both out and back and very typical in profile.
3rd : 5704 BROWN & BURNS, Mr & Miss Robert & Anne Magregor Four Letter Word For Pothouse - GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER - Dog. A smart athletic youngster, kind expression, strong jaws, well laid shoulders with good depth of chest. Short back with good breadth over the loins. Displayed both reach and drive on the move.
4th : 6568 MCCORMACK, Miss S Flyngalee Topsy Turvy JW - RETRIEVER (GOLDEN) - Dog. Another handsome dog with a very kind, gentle expression. Good head proportions with decent breadth of skull. Excellent forehand with good bone and feet. Nicely balanced with good length of leg. Very impressive on the move with obvious drive from his strong hindquarters.
