Pyrenean Mountain Dog

VD (2,1)

1. Wells’ Sketrick Patou (AI). 8 yr old who carries strong bone, pleased for size and overall balance and has a degree of elegance. Correct length of neck for the breed, firm in topline, pleasing rib, good croup and tailset. Nicely proportioned head with pleasing expression; good skull, minimal stop, almond-shaped eyes, ears set on correctly and good dentition but lips could be cleaner. He could stand tidier in front and this also reflected on the move, however he went well enough on the go around. Good texture to coat. Best Veteran Dog.

MPD (1,0)

1. McDowell’s Amarante Della Rocca Dei Patous at Granchester (imp Ita). 7 mth old who appealed for type, carries good bone and has the desired elegance of the breed. Neck of correct length, rib developing well for age, a tad ‘bum’ high right now but I’m sure that will settle in time, firm loin and excellent tail carriage. Most pleasing head and expression; correct skull, super eyes, ears set on level with eyes, correct stop, good dentition and nice dark pigmentation. When gaiting he carries himself well but could open up more on the go around. Super temperament.

PD (2,0)

1. Bhattacharya’s Jumicar Free As A Bird of Hydelen. 9 mth old who is all male yet with the elegance which is so desirable in the breed. Muscular neck of correct length, firm level topline, ribbing carried well back, good croup and tail pleased for both set and carriage. Attractive head with good proportions, dark expressive eyes, ears of correct set, minimal stop and scissor bite. Pleasing angles front and rear but needs to fill out in front. On the move, he had a good length of stride which gained him the class win here but needs to firm in front. Good texture to coat. Very well handled. Best Puppy Dog.

2. McDowell’s Amarante Della Rocca Dei Patous at Granchester (imp Ita)

1. Waters’ Nevot De Alba De Los Danzantes with Sketrick (imp Esp). Standing along here, this 2 yr old lad is still some way from maturity and not in full coat on the day, however he presented a nicely balanced outline with strong neck, firm through the topline, ribbing carried well back but brisket still to drop, muscular loin and tail good for length and set. Pleasing head proportions, correct eye shape, a little more stop than the ideal but nothing untoward, strong muzzle, excellent dentition and dark pigmentation. Soundly constructed and moving freely on the down and back and also pleased on the go around.

LD (4,1)

1. Reilly’s Mangrove Xiphos Spartan Swordsman at Darmaror JW. A somewhat varied class which saw this 14 mth old come out on top. I first came across this boy at the beginning of the year and I have to say he has come on immensely. He presents a balanced outline, has strong bone and has the degree of elegance as called for in the standard. Strong neck of correct length to balance, firm in topline, ribbing carried well back and developing as it should, muscular loin and correct tailset. Super headed lad with excellent skull, minimal stop, the best of eyes and ears, strong muzzle of moderate length and well pigmented all through. He has correct angles front and rear and pleased on the go around and carried himself well but needs to firm on the down and back. Good quality coat.

2. Chang & Skiba’s Oonelladream Born To Run. This 2 yr old was another casting his coat on the day but he was good to go over and has so much to like. Fairly short neck, level back, pleasing rib, firm loin and tail good for set and carriage. Attractive headpiece with correct skull, excellent eye and ear, good dentition and scissor bite but for me winner just had the edge in overall expression. He has good angles both ends and stands well in front on compact feet. On the move, he pleased on the down and back and also went well when viewed in profile but again winner just went that bit better on the go around.

3. Tadd’s Kricarno Klass Kombined

Class 1368 OD (6,1)

1. Kenyon & Ward’s Ch Charibere Simply The Sequel at Kaianna JW. I particularly liked the first two in this class although they really are quite different to one another. This 4 yr old was my winner and I awarded him the RCC the last time I judged. He is all male, good for size and has the elegance of the breed which is so essential to true breed type. Correct length of neck for the breed, firm through the topline, excellent ribbing, brisket reaching the elbows, well-muscled loin, correct croup and tailset. Quality headpiece with excellent skull, minimal stop, dark almond-shaped eyes, ears of correct set, strength to muzzle which is of medium length and nice dark pigmentation. Pleasing angulation front and rear and on the move, he is true when going away and appealed on the go around with good self carriage. Excellent coat and presentation. CC.

2. Baverstock’s Ch Kalkasi Just Because JW. 5 yr old out of a slightly smaller mould than the winner but still with masculinity, carrying such good bone and he was so good hands on. Muscular neck of correct length for the breed, firm level topline, ribbed well back, good depth to chest and correct croup. Another super headed boy with strength as desired but no suggestion of coarseness, minimal stop, dark expressive eyes which are correctly set, strong muzzle, scissor bite and excellent pigmentation. Soundly built all through, standing nice and straight in front on compact feet and very well-muscled. Gaiting freely when viewed from all angles but winner just had the edge on the go around. RCC.

3. Woolf’s Sabre Golden Ticket Du Pyrdanti (Imp Fra)

SBD (1,0)

1. Challinor’s Shanlimore Marvin. 4 yr old of good size, carrying strong bone and was very well handled here. Fairly short neck, firm level back, good depth to brisket and muscular loin. Pleasing head and expression with dark almond-shaped eyes which are correctly set, strength to muzzle and nice dark pigmentation but with a tad more stop than the ideal. Moderately angulated front and rear and standing on compact feet. Moving well when viewed in profile but front action not quite what it could be. Best Special Beginner.

VB (1,0)

1. Goodwin’s Ch Lisjovia Adagio avec Montmusique JW OSW. 7 yr old who is feminine all through and so soundly constructed that she simply cannot be overlooked. She has the elegance of the breed and is so very well balanced with correct length of neck, excellent ribbing, good depth to brisket, firm level back, correct croup and tailset. Strength to head yet retaining femininity, dark expressive eyes which are placed somewhat obliquely in the skull, medium length to muzzle, scissor bite and nice dark pigmentation. She stands straight in front on compact feet and was presented with excellent muscle-tone. Gaiting freely and carries herself well and was so very well handled here. RCC and Best Veteran. Looking back at my records, I see this is the second RCC I have awarded this girl.

MPB (1,0)

1. Waters’ Reina De Alba De Los Danzantes with Sketrick (imp Esp). 6 mth old who I thought most promising. She is feminine throughout with the desired elegance of the breed, soundly constructed and presented a lovely balanced outline. Correct length of neck, firm topline, ribcage of good length with rib developing as it should for age, good croup and tail pleased for set and carriage. Attractive head with correct skull, minimal stop, expressive almond-shaped eyes, scissor bite and super pigmentation. Pleasing angles front and rear, standing true in front on excellent feet and a delight when gaiting, so good on the down and back and carries herself well for one so young. Best Puppy.

1. Waters’ Reina De Alba De Los Danzantes with Sketrick (imp Esp)

2. Tadd’s Chia Apaltasunez avec Kricarno (imp Cze). 12 mth old who very much appealed for overall type and she is so good in outline too with fairly short neck, firm through the topline, ribbed well back but still to fully develop in brisket, muscular loin and excellent tail for both set and carriage. Feminine headpiece with expressive eyes which pleased for colour and set, medium length to muzzle, correct dentition and nice dark pigmentation. Moderate angles both ends and she stands well naturally in front. Going well when viewed in profile but couldn’t match the winner to and fro today.

JB (1,0)

1. Baverstock’s Kalkasi As If By Magic JW. Standing alone here, this 13 mth old was more than worthy of company but not entirely relaxed on the day. Excelling for type, carrying strong bone and good hands on. Well balanced with neck of correct length, firm straight topline, pleasing rib, good depth to chest, well-muscled loin and tail good for length and set. Quality head with feminine expression; excellent eye and ear, correct stop, strong muzzle of moderate length, scissor bite and well pigmented. I liked her angles front and rear and she stands straight in front on super feet. Moving well on the go around and more than ok coming and going.

PGB (1,0)

1. Stephens’ Aurvandill Freya's Thyra. 2 yr old who out of coat on the day. A little narrower all through but pleasing in outline with good neck, firm straight topline, ribbing carried well back, correct croup and tail good for both set and carriage. Feminine headpiece with dark almond-shaped eyes of correct set, muzzle of medium length, scissor bite and nice dark pigmentation but she has a little more stop than the ideal. Moderately angulated both ends and on the move she went well when viewed in profile, has excellent rear action but could be more positive coming towards.

LB (4,1)

1. McBain & Holmes’ Polar Light Pride of America (imp Usa) JW. 2 yr old who was a comfortable winner in this class for me. Carrying strong bone, she presents such a lovely balanced outline and was a delight to go over given her correct construction. Neck of correct length for the breed, firm level topline, excellent ribbing, well-muscled loin and tail good for both length and set. Attractive head with feminine expression; almond-shaped eyes of good colour, medium length of muzzle, correct dentition and very good pigmentation. Correct angulation front and rear, standing true in front on super feet and muscular thighs. Gaiting freely on the down and back and goes well on the go around too. Just didn’t quite give her all in the challenge.

2. Coles’ Gillandant Jasmine. 3 yr who is heavier all through than the winner but she has to be gone over to be really appreciated. Correct fairly short neck, firm in topline, good depth to brisket, excellent ribbing and tail of correct set. Feminine headpiece with pleasing skull, minimal stop, expressive eyes of good colour, ears of correct set, strength to muzzle, scissor bite and very well pigmented. Pleasing angles front and rear, standing on good feet and well-muscled all through. On the move, she went well on the go around but winner had the edge. Good texture to coat.

3. Kenyon & Ward’s Charibere Reason To Dream at Kaianna JW

OB (5,0)

1. Gibson’s Ch/Ir Ch Febus Anapeou JW OSW ShCEx. This 3 yr old was an absolute delight and for me, she was bang on for type and so good hands on. There is no mistaking her gender but she is good for size, certainly imposing, well off for bone and has strength throughout. Neck of correct length, excellent topline, good depth to chest, super ribbing, muscular loin, correct croup and tailset. Absolutely sublime head and expression with correct skull, minimal stop, expressive almond-shaped eyes with good fill below, medium length of muzzle and excellent pigmentation. Correctly angulated front and rear, standing well naturally on such good feet and well-muscled all through. A pleasure to watch gaiting, true both fore and aft, carrying herself so well and handled to perfection. Good quality coat. CC & BOB.

2. Goodwin’s Ch Lisjovia White Lady avec Montmusique JW. 4 yr old who also pleased but she is quite different to the winner. She presented a well balanced outline with strong neck, level topline, deep through the brisket, ribbing carried well back, firm loin and tail pleased for set and carriage. Feminine in head with pleasing skull, super expressive eyes of correct set, strength to muzzle and nice dark pigmentation but a little more stop than preferred. Carrying strong bone, she has good angles both ends and stands on excellent feet. On the move, she appealed on the go around and is true when going away and although her front is good, winner just went that bit better.
