Wales & West of England Pug Dog Club
Championship Show – 24th May 2025
My grateful thanks to the Officers and Committee of the Wales & West of England Pug Dog Club for their kind invitation to judge their Championship Show which was held in partnership with Bath. As is often the case with partnership shows, there were some delays due to handler clashes and of course, the host show had to take precedence over the Club Show. However, everyone seemed chilled out on the day and there was a good atmosphere ringside. Thanks to my stewards, Ilona and Brian, for keeping the ring and paperwork in order and for their good humour.

1. Linnett’s Ch Conquell Chance A Glance JW. 11 yr old fawn who is feminine all through, appealing for type and presenting a cobby outline with slightly arched neck of correct length to balance, short back with firm topline, good spring of rib, short loin and twist set on high. Quality head with excellent skull, super eye and ear, square muzzle, good nostrils and breadth to underjaw. She stands straight in front with good breadth and moved so well on the go around and when coming towards. Rear action just beginning to show signs of age but nothing untoward and she was my choice for Best Veteran in Show.
2. Mitchell’s Rosewitch Actually I’m It. 7 yr old fawn who carries good bone. Neck of correct length and with slight arch, firm level back, well sprung ribs, tad longer in the loin and twist set on well. Pleasing head and expression with good skull, dark round eyes, correct wrinkling to forehead and decent underjaw. She stands a little untidy in front but when gaiting she moved out very well and has excellent hindquarters. Good coat. At times she could have made more of herself to advantage.

1. Eddery & Dawson-Payne’s Judamie Le Magnifique. 8 mth old fawn who has lots to like although very much a baby right now. She pleased in outline with slightly arched neck, short level back, ribbing carried well back and developing as it should for age, short in the couplings and twist set on nice and high. Delightful head with feminine expression; excellent skull, dark round eyes, button ears, well open nostrils and width to underjaw. Soundly constructed both ends and stands straight in front on correct feet with breadth to chest. Moves well all through and has excellent carriage. Best Puppy Bitch.
2. Reynolds’ Dynatos Majestic Meridius Croftren. 7 mth old fawn who I see shares the same sire as the winner and this is another promising pup. She has a touch more length than winner but I didn’t see her as unbalanced. Excellent neck, firm through the topline, ribbing just right for age, muscular loin and twist set on high. Super head and expression with good skull, excellent eye and ear, correct wrinkling to forehead, square muzzle and good width to lower jaw. Another who is well constructed and she stands true in front. Showy girl who used herself fully and moved out freely.
3. Reid’s Roxmarr What’s Up Pussycat
Special PB – Fawn (1,0)
1. Linnett’s Conquell Charm Offensive. 9 mth old fawn who has plenty to like, pleasing for overall type and was good hands on. Very good neck which is slightly arched as desired, topline pretty good but a little higher in the rear right now but I’m sure this will settle, well developed rib for age, nice short loin and twist set on well. Feminine headpiece with good skull, the best of eyes, button ears, well open nostrils, nice dark pigmentation and good width to underjaw. Pleasing angles both ends and she stands on correct feet. Moves out well on the go around and is nice and firm behind. Shows herself off to advantage.

1. Reynolds’ Croftren Chasing High JW. 15 mth old fawn shown here with excellent muscle-tone and making the most of herself at all times. Slightly arched neck, firm level topline, pleasing spring of rib and twist set on nice and high. Most attractive head which is full of femininity; good skull, dark round eyes, excellent ears, relatively short muzzle, good nostrils, dark pigmentation and width to underjaw. She stands on very good feet and when gaiting she went so well on the go around, just a tad wider when going away. Fine soft coat.

1. Saffer & Swinge’s Bubbapug Summer Sundae JW. 23 mth old fawn. One I have met a couple of times previously and she always appeals. Cobby girl who uses herself to advantage and is very well handled. Crested neck of correct length to give balance, short back with firm topline, well sprung ribs with ribbing carried well back, short in the couplings and twist set on high. Feminine headpiece with excellent skull, very nice eye and ear, square relatively blunt muzzle and excellent underjaw. She stands nice and straight in front on correct feet with good breadth of chest and certainly didn’t disappoint on the move. Nice dark pigmentation.

1. Mielczarek’s Margobull Little Dolly. 5 yr old fawn who pleased for bone and substance but she was not using herself at all on the day which didn’t help her cause. Neck of correct length to balance, firm through the topline, ribbing extends well back, muscular loin and twist set on ok. Round skull, ears set on a little higher than the ideal, pretty good eyes and sufficient width to lower jaw. Pleasing angles both ends and went pretty well on the go around when co-operating.

1. Kelsall’s Kelbrend Dreamy Duchess. 2 yr old fawn. Neck of correct length to balance, short back with level topline, fair ribbing and twist set on high. Pleasing head and expression with round skull, expressive eyes of good colour, rose ears, square muzzle, well open nostrils, nice dark pigmentation and width to underjaw. She stands with width in front and has good feet. Moves out very well when viewed in profile but somewhat wider in the rear when going away. Fine soft coat.

1. Kelsall’s Flaikwell Damson Jam. 4 yr old fawn who has plenty of neck, is nice and firm through the topline, well ribbed up, short in the couplings and with a twist set on high. Rounded skull, pleasing eyes for shape and colour, ears ok, square relatively blunt muzzle, fair nostrils, very good pigmentation and breadth to underjaw. She stands on correct feet for the breed and has a good width of chest. When gaiting, she pleased on the go around and when coming towards but could be firmer in the rear.
2. Mielczarek’s Margobull Cherry Lips. 2 yr old fawn who couldn’t compete in overall outline with winner although she is compact and her twist was set on nice and high. Pleasing skull and eye and excellent pigmentation but preferred expression of 1. She has a nice breadth to chest and stands on correct feet. Fair action all through.
LB (7,2)
1. Hyde’s Sophia Loren-FV Dei Orisha at Roxmarr JW (Imp Ita). This was a rather varied class for type and for me this 18 mth old fawn was a comfortable winner. She was so good hands on given her correct construction but with a tad more length although in no way unbalanced. Slightly arched neck, firm level back, good spring of rib, muscular loin and twist set on nice and high. Feminine head with excellent skull, correct wrinkling to forehead, eyes of good shape, very nice ears, square muzzle and wide lower jaw. Straight forelegs, correct feet and firm hindquarters with correct angulation. Purposeful, free action and shows herself off to advantage. Fine soft coat. Very well handled.
2. Linnett’s Paradiz Ronado Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for Conquell (Imp Ita). 3 yr old fawn with pleasing bone but she too has a little more length than preferred, however she was good to go over. Excellent neck, firm through the topline, well sprung ribs and twist set on very well. Attractive head and expression with round skull, dark eyes of correct shape, good ears, well open nostrils, dark pigmentation and width to underjaw. She stands on good feet and has a nice width of chest but she has a tendency to ‘sink’ when standing. Moves soundly all through.
3. Thomas’ Myter Saucy Secret

1. Rutherford’s Ch Bilohka Dawn Patrol with Potbelli JW. There were some nice bitches in this class which gave me much to consider. This 2 yr old fawn I thought was quite outstanding and she was a delight to go over. Feminine throughout, she presents a super outline with slightly arched neck of correct length to balance, short back with firm topline, first class ribbing, short in the couplings and twist set on high. She has the very best of heads with dark round lustrous eyes, button ears, correct wrinkling to forehead, relatively blunt muzzle, well open nostrils, excellent pigmentation and good width to underjaw. As sound as they come, she stands so well in front on such good feet, has width of chest and is well muscled in the rear with good turn of stifle. A pleasure to watch gaiting from any angle and uses herself at all times. CC and Best in Show.
2. Persson’s Int Ch/Seuch/Fiuch/Nouch Duovas Silly Milly. 5 yr old fawn and another full of quality but she is quite different to the winner. She presents such a good outline; compact and so well balanced with crested neck of correct length, short firm back, excellent ribbing, nice and short in the couplings and twist set on high. Attractive head and expression; round skull, eyes good for both shape and colour, button ears, square muzzle, dark pigmentation and good width to lower jaw. She is well boned and stands nice and straight in front on correct feet and with width to chest. When gaiting, she goes so well on the go around and is true behind but winner just had the edge in front. Shown with excellent muscle-tone. RCC.
3. Cowie’s Ch Afterglow Esther La Vista Megipugi JW
Special OB – Black (2,0)
1. Ellis’ Eastonite Blackis Cloudy JW. Two very different bitches challenged in this class. My winner was this 3 yr old. She has a little more length but a soundly constructed girl who was good hands on. Slightly arched neck, firm level back, excellent ribbing and twist set on nice and high. Most attractive head and expression; round skull, lovely wrinkling to forehead, super eye and ear, square muzzle which is relatively blunt, excellent nostrils and breadth to underjaw. She stands true in front with good width to chest and has correct feet. Moves freely all through. Best Black Bitch.
2. Coulter’s Blacobby Lady Macbeth. 18 mth old who presents a square outline but not quite as well off for bone as winner. Neck of correct length to give balance, short level back, ribcage of good length, nice short loin and twist set on well. Feminine headpiece with good skull, round eyes, button ears and width to underjaw but overall preferred expression of winner. Well made both front and rear and she stands on good feet. Moving true on the down and back and pleased on the go around too.
Special OB – Fawn (4,0)
1. Linnett’s Ch Conquell Cause No Offense. This was another pleasing class with this 5 yr old fawn coming out on top and I see one who had a great day under me the last time I judged the breed. She excels for overall type, carries good bone and was a delight hands on. Compact in outline with correct length of neck which is nicely crested, short firm back, excellent ribbing, short in the couplings and twist set on high. Quality head with feminine expression; round skull with correct wrinkling, dark round lustrous eyes, excellent ears, square muzzle, very good nostrils, super pigmentation and width to underjaw. Well made both front and rear and she stands just right at all times and has correct feet. Moving freely when viewed from any angle and uses herself as she goes.
2. Reynolds & Morley’s Afterglow I Dream of Jeannie at Lizlanmor JW. 22 mth old who is also full of quality and a showy girl who cannot be overlooked. She presented a nice square outline with slightly arched neck, firm through the topline, well sprung ribs with ribcage carried well back, short muscular loin and twist set on well. Feminine headpiece with excellent skull, expressive eyes, button ears, relatively blunt muzzle, good nostrils, super pigmentation and nice width to lower jaw. Sound constructed all through and stands on excellent feet and another who was a pleasure to watch gaiting.

1. Cowie’s Ch Sunlea Cast A Spell over Megipugi JW. 7 yr old fawn who very much appealed. He is well off for bone and presents a super cobby outline with thick, slight arched neck, short firm back, excellent ribbing, nice and short in the loin and twist set on high. Masculine head with round skull of good size, clearly defined wrinkling, expressive eyes, excellent ears, breadth to muzzle and good nostrils. Pleasing construction front and rear and he stands straight in front on correct feet and has nice width of chest. Moving true coming and going and pleased on the go around too. Best Veteran Dog.
2. Wheeler’s Pugglemania Have A Look. 9 yr old fawn who is quite different to the winner but he also has lots to like. He carries good bone but has a little more length than the winner and therefore is not quite as compact in outline. Slightly arched neck, firm level back, well sprung ribs, muscular loin and twist set well on. Pleasing head with good skull, dark round eyes, correct wrinkling to forehead, good pigmentation and width to lower jaw but overall preferred expression of winner. This boy is also well constructed and moved well all through and was well handled here.

MPD (4,0)
1. Attwood & Taylor’s Taftazini Fluffy Ruffles. 7 mth old fawn who I thought something very special, excelling for type, carrying good bone and presenting such a lovely balanced outline. Slightly arched neck, firm through the topline, ribbing developing just as it should and extending well back, short in the couplings and twist set on nice and high. First class head and expression with excellent skull, good wrinkling to forehead, super eye and ear, well open nostrils, square muzzle and width to underjaw. A delight to go over given his correct construction; standing nice and straight in front on super feet and firm hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Full of attitude, he is quite something on the move, free both fore and aft and using himself at all times. Good quality coat and well pigmented all through. RCC & Best Puppy in Show.
2. Mitchell & Willis’ Taftazini Tussie Mussie. Fawn who turned out to be the littermate to the winner and he is another who shows great promise, just a tad ‘bum’ high right now but I’m sure as he grows that will sort itself out. Like his brother, he has a super head and expression; round skull with pleasing detail in the forehead, very good eye and ear, relatively short blunt muzzle, well open nostrils, nice dark pigmentation and good width to lower jaw. He has pleasing bone and good angles front and rear and he stands true in front on good feet. Moving well all through and well handled.

Masculine headpiece with good skull, round expressive eyes of good colour, button ears, square muzzle which is relatively blunt, very good nostrils and width to underjaw. Super headed youngster with excellent skull, dark expressive eyes, button ears, pleasing wrinkling to forehead, width to muzzle, very good nostrils and underjaw. 1. Hall’s Conquell Morning Sun. Fawn of 19 mths who has plenty to like. He is nice and cobby with correct length of neck, short back with firm topline and twist set on high. Pleasing head with masculine expression; round skull with good wrinkling to forehead, eyes of good colour, correct ears, square muzzle, well open nostrils and wide lower jaw. Superb head and expression with excellent skull, wrinkling to forehead, dark round eyes, the best of ears, square muzzle, good width to underjaw and very good pigmentation. 2. Makepeace’s Hugapug Guy Fawkes at Sandigara. 2 yr old fawn who was pleasing hands on and carries nice bone. He has a tad more length and therefore didn’t quite present such a compact outline as the winner but he has an excellent neck, is firm through the topline, well sprung in rib and his twist is set on high. Masculine head with breadth to skull, correct ears, square muzzle, pretty good nostrils and nice width to chin but overall expression not that of 1. Muscular, slightly arched neck, lovely short back with firm topline, first class ribbing, well-muscled loin and high set twist. Masculine head with excellent skull, pleasing wrinkling to forehead, dark round lustrous eyes, very good ears, square muzzle which is relatively short, very good nostrils and width to lower jaw.
