National Working & Pastoral Breeds Society

Breed: Multiple breeds

Judge Ms T Forsey (Muzoku).

Thank you to the Society for the invitation to Judge at this lovely Show We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day and despite a nasty injury to myself making my second breed take a little more time due to the pain, it was a wonderful day especially as I had the honour of awarding CC’s in Finnish Lapphunds for the first time. I would like to give a big thank you to my super stewards for taking good care of myself and my ring and checking in on me later on in the week but the biggest thanks goes to all of the exhibitors and their dogs for their entries today It will definitely be one to remember for me.

Temperaments were sound across both breeds and despite the heat all dogs appeared to have been kept in the shade and most coped admirably. However, I was very upset to hear comments made about myself, other breeders and their dogs right outside the ring next to me. It is not professional nor is it acceptable behaviour.

Please accept my apologies for the critiques being a little over due, my health has had a bit of a knock after COVID and Pneumonia combined with my illness has left me very weak and disorientated.

CANADIAN ESKIMO DOG

JUNIOR DOG (1)

1.HOOLEY’S AKNA PALMATUM

13 month old male of good size and outline. Broad skull with still time to mature. Lovely dark eye and I loved his inquisitive cheeky expression Ears slightly relaxed but mobile on engagement. Tapered muzzle. Short muscular neck Good breadth and depth of chest Moderate bone Excellent coat texture. Balanced angles. He is a little uncoordinated on the move at the moment but I’m sure this will improve as he tones up all through However he has plenty of power reach and drive in his side-gait.

POST GRADUATE DOG (1)

1.BAILEY’S AKNA RUN SILENT RUN DEEP

Presented well in profile and very good under hand Lovely head and expression with dark eye good bite and broad skull and muzzle. Thick well furred ears of good set and carried forward. Balanced angulation Tail set well Good bend of stifle and nice feet Moved with power and reach and drive

I loved this boys profile and type. Strong powerful and with an excellent outline, well let down hocks and good bone and substance. Masculine head with balanced proportions Dark eye well set with small thick triangular ears of nice thick leather, well furred and carried forward. He had a super temperament and was a very happy boy. Front and rear angulation was correct and this showed perfectly in his side gait. He moved with power reach and drive. Not as settled as the bitch in challenge. BD BOS.

2. BYRNE’S AAVUUTA QIMMIQ AKIAK (IMP CAN) (AZ3) BEJCH IR JCH SHCEX

Another very nice dog who was in super condition and beautifully presented. I have judged him before and I was pleased to see his head and his frame has matured well. Masculine head and attractive expression Good leg length and bone with tidy well arched feet. Good breadth and depth of chest Well set and carried bushy tail Moved cleanly and true but I think he struggled in the heat today and didn’t have the power of my class winner. RBD

Coat of excellent texture Hard guard hair and thick dense undercoat Good angles all through Excellent bone and feet Gave his all on the move shower plenty of power from the side.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG OR BITCH (0)

At 14 months tomorrow this youngster was very excitable however has a very promising foundation. I loved her head and expression with such beautiful dark eyes and well-set ears. Beautiful head on this 6 year old bitch Lovely dark eye, well set and thick well furred ears which were used to her advantage Super personality and temperament and just happy to be here. Balanced ‘ moderate angulation with good bone and substance and tidy feet. She covered the ground well with power reach and drive.RBB

2.ATKINS IR CH LUX CH QIMUGTA MISS MARPLE IR JUN CH

Initially my class winner I really liked this girl for type Lovely head coat bone and angulation. Lovely kind expression and enthusiastic attitude Markings can be misleading but under hand she was built well and muscled and toned all through Not as tidy as class winner on the move but I look forward to seeing her again as she has the power and strength I like to see.

FINNISH LAPPHUND

Some lovely examples of the breed here today and nearly every one with sound temperaments Just a few observations. Firstly, there are some hocks that are not only weak but also not straight This is a concern as it seriously affects the movement of the dogs Several knocking hocks and very weak joints. Secondly fronts, some exhibits are short in upper arm and this impede movement, adding to that some lack the width required. Finally, movement “effortless brisk, agile and straight” is what the breed standard calls for and this was lacking in some exhibits today. On a positive note, it was nice to see come consistency coming through, some promising youngsters and some cracking Veterans who at 10+ years old still doing the breed proud.

PUPPY DOG (1)

1.DALY’S WHINFOSS KESANSATURI (AI)

11month old brown tri. Kind expression Head still to mature. Wavy coat of good texture Must be going through a growth spurt as a little high at rear Moderate angulation Moderate bone in balance with frame. Straight short hocks Slight slope to pasterns Moved well in all directions in a brisk trot Clean and true.

JUNIOR DOG (3, 1Abs)

1.LLOYD’S ARIANRHOD HAVUKRUUNU (AI)

I loved this boys head One of the best on the day and he still has time for it to mature. Strong broad and clearly defined stop. Muzzle broad and slightly shorter than skull. Dark eyes with a soft kind expression. Good bite and pigment. Lovely thick triangular ears set well apart which were used well on invitation. Medium neck into moderately laid shoulder. Firm topline both stood and on the move. Super body proportions being slightly longer than tall He has super bone and his rear has width too. He has moderate angulation super feet and good bend of stifle His leg length to body proportion is correct and he is one of the dogs with excellent short strong hocks and slight slope to pasterns. Although a little out of coat it was of good texture and his tail which was well set and covered with profuse hair gave an indication of how good his full coat is. His handler needs to be mindful of how he is stood as at times he was underneath himself at the rear and I know he is built correctly. He is brisk and agile on the move and was seriously considered for the cards.
