Thank you to Jennie and her committee for the invitation to judge. I had a lovely entry numerically and in quality. The atmosphere around the ring was fantastic; I commend all the exhibitors for their sportsmanship, which led to the acceptance of my decisions. We ended up with a large indoor ring, where I could see how the dogs held their outline and how they moved in profile and on the up and down. I would still like to see better rear movement; some hocks were loose, which led to a lack of drive. You don’t need to move your dogs too fast; give them time to balance and use their bodies correctly to show the desired drive and reach. I will just end my preamble with my final thoughts: the Irish setter needs to be racy and full of quality and essential breed points with sound movement; to find all of that in one exhibit is a judge's hope and not always easy. I was delighted with my winners; the puppy classes are very promising, which bodes well for the breed going forward.
Class SBD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: HOLMES, Mrs Judith, Gwendariff Mr Blue Sky, a young male, has the correct stacked outline, a gentle expression, low-set ears, a moderate neck that sits cleanly into his shoulders, and a well-ribbed back; however, he still needs to develop more ribs. Handled sympathetically, he moved steady and true, a little close in the rear but hopefully as he strengths this will improve. Shown in good of good colour and texture.
2nd: HEARN, Mrs Julia Cataluna Light Of My Soul, not as mature as the 1st, has a pleasant head with a kind expression. Was a little narrower in front than the 1st.
Decent width to the 2nd thigh and stifles well let down, moved okay, but would like to see more drive. Shown in a good coat.
Class MPD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: FOSTER, Mr & Mrs N & S Ixia Boys Don't Cry At Shanoah, what a lovely puppy, with lots of promise, a gorgeous head, and a twinkling eye. I very much liked his body proportions, good leg-to-body length, and well-set tail and finish to the croup. At only 6 months, he has a lot of maturing to do but has all the correct essentials to grow into a lovely Irish boy. He was moved at the correct pace for his age; he was a happy boy on the move, head up and tail wagging. BPD
2nd: RANDLE, Ms S. J. Rionore Bewitching Memory, another promising puppy, he is such a monkey to assess on the stack as he pulls himself together, and he looks shorter than he actually is; on the move he looks so much better. Masculine head with a super expression, he has lovely bone and substance for his age and a gorgeous coat coming through. Good width to the second thigh and tidy feet. Once he lets his handler stack him as he should be stacked, I am sure he will trouble the best.
3rd: MACFARLANE, Mrs Audrey Harelferg Macfarlane for Umfrido
Class PD (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: HARRIS, Mrs P. Fairhaven Young Soul For Konakakela (imp. swe), well grown on, he is at the top end of the puppy class; he had the better outline in this class, a gentle sloping topline, and a well-developed chest. To be critical, I would like a tad more neck, he has well-sprung ribs, and a short loin. Hindquarters are strong with well-bent stifles and moves with drive, just a little proud of the tail.
2nd: RANDLE, Ms S. J. Rionore, Bewitching Memory, repeat on MPD.
3rd: HEMMINGS, Mr D & HEMMINGS, Mrs K. M. Orlanset Slave To Love
Class JD (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: BROWN, Miss Debbie Kay Riverbrue Deadpool, what a smashing youngster, full of quality and type. Loved his balanced, handsome head with a kind expression, straight front, and nice length of neck into a well-constructed front. Strong hindquarters and stifles well let down. Well off for bone and substance. He was stylish on the move, holding his gently sloping topline and good tail carriage. I will watch his development with interest. Shown in a lovely coat with super texture and in good muscular condition.
2nd: ABBOTT, Mrs D & MILLIGAN-BOTT, Mrs D. Thendara Haribo. This lad has a larger frame and a super outline in profile; he excels in the forechest and has a masculine head with dark eyes and a cheeky expression, strong limbs, and a deep thorax. His ribs are well sprung. His front movement was a little messy today, but he was just too onwards bound. When he settles, he shows reach and drive. He has lots of potential. Well handled.
3rd: ASHLEY-TURNER, Ms Alison Riverbrue, The Joker:
Class YD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: JACOBS, Mr Gareth & BERNARD, Miss Karen Forfarian Fancy Footwork Jw, This young male dog has a lot of potential; his head is masculine and shows no signs of coarseness. I would prefer a little more leanness in skull.. His well-shaped eyes are dark with a typical Irish expression. He boasts a strong, slightly arched neck that neatly fits into his shoulders, a well-built front, and a good return of upper. The ribs are deep and well set back, his tail is straight off the back, and the rear quarters are well angulated. On the move, his footfall is excellent when he isn’t messing about, but that’s not a criticism; he is only young, and I don’t want to see a robot. Tail carried and used well. Coat of excellent texture and shown in super muscular body condition.
2nd: RUSSELL, Mrs J. Tiroen Touch Of Magic By Settesoli (imp Kcj) JW is a few months older but not as mature in body, a stylish young male who has lots to like, with a super reach of neck; I preferred his head and expression with raised brows and slight chiselling. He still needs to drop into his rear quarters. Correct layback of shoulder and straight front with good length to front legs, which gave him a gentle sloping topline. Lost out on rear movement today. He was shown in a lovely coat and handled well.

1st: EDWARDS, Mrs Susan Copper's Get Off My Cloud By Bonhomie (Imp Swe), an upstanding young man, mature-looking, and with a lovely, balanced, correct, racy outline, his topline has a gentle, firm slope, which ultimately won him the class over a favourite of mine; he is not overdone and is moderate in his angulations. He has a refined head, a kind eye, and an excellent finish to his muzzle. His brisket is deep, and his back is well-ribbed. Strong and nicely angled hindquarters. He has a lovely demeanour about him as he moves, with a super head carriage. I believe he will be an easy Sh Ch once he matures into the finished dog. He was shown and handled to perfection.
2nd: LEVENE, Miss Abi & LEWIS, Mrs R. Quensha Remember the name Valasarch, a favourite of mine who only lost out to 1st on the finer details. He has a gorgeous head and expression and is a little more rugged in style, but under all his coat, he is well constructed, has a super front and return of upper arm, is deep in the rib cage and short loin, has well-angled rear quarters, and has a correct tail set. He is so very sound on the move. He secured a commendable second place in a highly competitive class.
3rd: SLOANE, Mrs Kate & SLOANE, Miss Gabrielle Ferasheen Hot Proper Tea JW
Class PGD (6 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: COLE, Mrs S. Riverbrue Ophelia Bobby, A dog I have watched mature, and he is doing that very well. I loved his outline on the stack, the gentle slope to the topline, and the elegant neck with a slight arch that sits cleanly into his shoulders. Handsome head, raised brows with good chiselling under eyes, a good finish to the muzzle and big nostrils. Straight front, deep through brisket and ribs well sprung, loin firm, and tail set correct. Hock to heel may be a little long, but his rear quarters are wide and strong, and he used them really well to drive round the ring, with a lovely coat of good texture.
2nd: PARSONS, Miss Jo-Anne & PARSONS, Mrs Diane Quensha Thinking Out Loud At Bransett JW, Very close up to the 1st place dog, another quality dog with good bone and substance, a masculine head with kind, expressive eyes, shoulders well placed and a prominent sternum, super ribs, and very muscular hindquarters. He has great width to the 2nd thigh. Stands on tidy feet. He is shown in great muscular condition. Today he moved with drive but was very excited in the large ring, and his front movement just became a little untidy. He has a gorgeous coat of the correct texture and colour.
3rd: CORLESS, Mrs S. S. Swiftlark Invincible JW
Class MdLD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: PRANGLE, Miss C & RUTHERFORD, Mrs Patricia Clonageera Touch Of Gold, a mature dog, was shown in super condition and presented beautifully. The dog has a masculine head with an oval skull and dark eyes that show a kind expression. He has a straight front, lovely bone and substance, and has a well-constructed front with ample forechest. His shoulders are well laid back, the topline is firm, there is great width to the second thigh, and his stifles are well let down. Additionally, his footfall is precise and correct; however, I would have liked to see a little more enthusiasm from him today.
2nd: CORLESS, Mrs S. S. Swiftlark Spellbinder, Liked this dog for type: long and lean head with low-set ears, slight arch to neck which flowed into well-placed shoulders, deep through rib cage, and muscular rear quarters. He used these well on the move to drive round the ring, just not as cleanly in front movement today. Shown in a lovely coat of good colour and condition.
Class LD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: BERESFORD, Miss Marie Jetsetter Wind Of Dreams (imp Rus), very much liked this handsome boy for type, an elegant boy who is lovely to go over, with a lean head with correct equal planes and a defined occiput. Arched moderate neck into clean shoulders, super depth, and spring to ribs giving lots of heart and lung room. Very balanced in front and rear angulations. Correct bone and neat feet. Nothing overdone; he moves true and shows an open side gait and is handled and shown well. Lovely coat of good texture. Considered for RCC.
2nd: DUFRAT, Miss A Riverbrue Cast No Shadow On Haverley, This boy has been slow to mature, which is not an issue for our breed; he has a super clean outline, and everything flows when you put your hands on him. Long, lean head, low-set ears, and good length to neck. Shoulders well laid into a gentle sloping topline. Well-ribbed back, short loin, and muscular rear quarters. He moved with style and excellent front reach. Very nice dog.

1st: CROCKER, Mr B.A. & LEWIS, Miss C. Sh. Ch. Riverbrue Wonderwall At Hernwood, An intriguing class when I judged these litter brothers back in 2021. I placed them the other way round. This dog has really grown into his frame beautifully; he looks so very balanced on the stack now, masculine but elegant and very correct. He is a quality male who has been shown and presented to the highest standard. When examined closely, he displays great muscle tone, an arched neck leading into a well-constructed front, a superb forechest, a deep brisket, a strong short loin, and excellent rear quarters and the desred gentle slope to topline. His tail set is super, and on the move he flows, showing excellent reach and drive, always holding his topline, and he is moved at the correct pace to show him at his best. I was delighted to award him 1st, DCC, and BOB; he looked super in the large group ring. Thank you for bringing him back.
2nd: BROWN, Miss Debbie Kay, Ch Riverbrue Soldier Oh, this dog is built on a smaller frame, with a handsome head, raised brows, and a cheeky expression. He is just a little more compact than his litter brother, with a straight front, ample fore chest, and well-sprung ribs. Strong hindquarters and lovely feet. Well-deserved, Sh Ch. I didn’t feel he moved as well as I have seen him previously.
Class VD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: RUSSELL, Mrs J. Sh. Ch. Lynwood Hocus Pocus At Settesoli JW, what can I say? A favourite of mine, I gave him the RCC in 2021, and I still love him for type; he has such a super outline, stacked, he is built correctly, and has a good length to front legs, which we seem to be loosing, giving that desired gentle slope to the topline. He is maturing wonderfully and gives such a lovely account of himself on the move. He may exhibit slightly less enthusiasm these days yet he remains extremely accurate with his footfall and has a super tail action. He could not be denied the RCC and BVIB.
2nd: MURCHISON, Mrs Linda Kerryfair Please Please Me, Corphin. Just into the veteran class, he is another quality dog who keeps improving with age, balanced and correct in construction. Pleasing, handsome head, raised brows, straight front, and deep through ribs. Well-laid shoulders and corresponding rear quarters. Very sound on the move, shown in a super coat, loved his relationship with his handler. He has a lovely open side gait.

What a super class, lots of beautiful puppies.
1st: ROBERTS, Mrs Angela R. Polmennor Pandora, super puppy, full of type and promise, so balanced for a puppy, such a pretty head and typical Irish expression. Everything is correct and well put together, and she should have a bright future, lovely clean shoulders, a well-ribbed back, and moderate hindquarters. She was true and steady on the move, which ultimately won her the class and BPIB. She carried on showing so well all day, giving a good account of herself in the puppy group.
2nd: HOPEWELL, Mrs Sharon & HOPEWELL, Mr David Riverwood X Written in the Stars Naf Taf (Imp Bel) loved this little puppy. What a poppet! She has a great attitude, a beautiful head, and a super cute expression. She is pleasing on the stack and well made all through. She moved well; as she matures and strengthens, she can only improve. She has super front reach; she just can’t control it at the moment. This is the one I would have liked to have taken home with me today. Good luck with her.
3rd: ROBERTS, Mrs Angela R. Polmennor Spice Of Life, another lovely quality puppy, a little more rangy than her little sister and will take a bit more time. Loved her for type, and as her sister, beautiful head with raised brow, moved well, just needs to tighten in the rear. her coat has a lovely colour and texture.

She didn’t disappoint on going over her. Feminine with substance, loved her head nicely balanced head planes, kind expression, low-set ears, clean neck into shoulder, good return of upper arm, and ample forechest. The tail was set just off the back; she moved well with strength in the rear hocks. I look forward to watching her mature.

1st: MUGFORD, Mr & Mrs RC & JP Lynwood Rather scrumptious, JW, a lovely picture of the stack, desired racey, balanced outline, beautiful head, raised brows and dark eyes with a kind expression, slight arch to the neck and well-constructed front with well-laid shoulders and showing fore chest with depth to the brisket. Ribs well sprung and short, slightly arched loin, and powerful hindquarters used to show drive, and she carried herself well, showing reach in front without losing her precise footfall. Great tail action, topped with a lovely coat and scores in musculature.
2nd: HALL, Mrs K. Riverbrue Ophelia Love Glennara JW, a bitch whom I like very much, lovely racy outline; she has a gorgeous head and expression, straight front, good length of neck with slight arch, gentle slope to topline, and a good finish to croup. Strong rear quarters and well-let-down hocks. She can stack really nicely but was fighting her handler today and losing her topline. She was just a little quick on the move today and became untidy in her front action. She is full of quality and will surely gain her title.

Straight front and shoulders well laid and good length of upper arm she is ribbed well back and deep through chest showing, plenty of heart room. Shown and presented beautifully.

Ribbed well back, with good width to the second thigh and hocks well let down, she moved with verve, and it just needs a little more control at times. She is still young and will settle a little as she matures.
3rd: CORLESS, Mrs S. S. Swiftlark, Illustrious JW

1st: HALL, Mr P. J. Harreds Lillie, an understated bitch who doesn’t always catch your eye at first glance. Her construction is so correct, and everything just flows; she is moderate, but that’s what I loved about her, with front and rear angulations correct and balanced. Strong through her hocks and moved with drive. Gorgeous head with a typical Irish expression from her well-shaped eyes, raised brows, and low-set ears. Yes, she is not overly coated, and for me this is not an issue; she looked as if she could do a day’s work on the moor. When it came to the challenge, she didn’t disappoint and deserved her RCC. She certainly deserves her title.
2nd: STURROCK, Mrs Sandra & STURROCK, Miss Jenna & STUR Forfarian Tickles Your Fancy. Another quality bitch, who has lots to like, who is full of breed type. Very pretty head with kind expression, well-set ears and good reach of neck, straight front, deep through brisket and well-ribbed, strong slightly arched loin and muscular rear quarters, slightly longer hock to heel than 1st. Moved well, showing reach and drive with super tail action.

Her outline is clean, and your hands flow over her; she has moderately angulated rear quarters with well let-down hocks. She moves with a true and correct footfall, her rear movement especially was very clean and strong in rear pasterns. Her presentation is exemplary, and she is shown in super muscular condition. Handled without fuss. She is a credit to her owner and breeder. I was delighted to award her the CC, which was her 3rd and a very deserved Sh Ch.
