South Wales Championship Show – 11/10/2025
Breed: Boxers
Judge: Mrs. Sue Mullis
I had been looking forward to this appointment for a long time and I wasn’t disappointed, by today’s standards it was a good entry, some super dogs and sporting exhibitors. I must thank the SWKA for the invitation and their hospitality and to my lovely ring stewards who ran everything like clockwork.
On the dogs, I do feel that finding a square boxer with a clean head is becoming more difficult, plenty of judges have already mentioned the state of mouths in the breed, a correct wide mouth with decent sized teeth is sadly a rarity. In saying that I was pleased in the main with both of my line ups, especially the final 4 in both sexes. Also good to see some very promising youngsters coming through.
Veteran Dog 0
Minor Puppy Dog – 8 (2 abs)
1st – Misses L & S Mair’s, Lorrosa Dizzy Rascal at Glenauld
Six-month-old brindle and white, square in outline and compact, with good angulation front and rear. Well off for bone, correctly sloping topline leading to a spot on tail set. An appealing, balanced head with dark eyes, wide nostrils, and a good mouth. He moved with drive for one so young and was expertly handled. One for the future, I’m sure, BPD
2nd – Mrs B & Mr D Renshaw-Turner & Turners’, Newlaithe Northern Soul at Sonshoby
Eight-month-old brindle and white. Another lovely youngster, taller and a little rangier than the first, very much still a baby, lovely reach of neck flowing into a correctly sloping topline and good lay of shoulder. Stands square on tight feet, with a very clean head and dark eyes giving a lovely expression. A little erratic on the move but settled better towards the end, giving his handler some work! I’m sure these two will change places as they mature.
3rd – D & S McCarthy & Gething’s, Jeddhi Oh Danny Boy
Puppy Dog – 2
1st – Mrs. Y. Cherry’s, Cherryforge Rebel at Heart
Nine-month-old dark brindle with a good front, larger-framed and well off for bone. Long neck leading to a slightly sloping topline. Pleasing head with kind dark eyes and a good mouth. Could be a little stronger behind, but still very much a baby. Moved well and in harmony with his handler.
2nd – Mr. K Jones, Lawful Arrest at Yenikana
Six-month-old, red and white, more compact than the first, body needs time to develop. A clean balanced head of good proportions with a kind dark eye and decent mouth. He would benefit from carrying a little less weight. Movement was a little slow at first and erratic, just needs to settle and work more with his handler to get more consistency.
Junior Dog – 3
1st – Mr. & Mrs. S. & G. Huckerby & Dowell’s, Norwilbeck Bellchime Belta
Seventeen-month-old brindle and white in gleaming condition, standing very square on good quarters with correct angulation. Straight front with good layback of shoulder, nice spring of rib, and tight cat-like feet. Head very clean and balanced with beautiful dark eyes, well-padded muzzle, and good mouth. Uses his well-muscled quarters to move with purpose and drive around the ring. Handled extremely well, a very smart young male and shortlisted in the final four for the CC.
2nd – Misses S. & S. Carter’s, Farvalley Major Luke at Sussancarr
Sixteen-month-old brindle and white, another quality youngster. Bigger sized but well put together, balancedthroughout and in good condition. Well-laid shoulders, medium bone, and good feet, good turn of stifle and he moved soundly. Head very clean with dark eye of good shape, broad muzzle, and good mouth, he moved well, though without quite the same drive as the winner.

Yearling Dog – 6 (1 abs)
1st – Miss S. Chell’s, Jimbren Elite Legacy at Ludic
Fifteen-month-old brindle and white. He stands beautifully square, with a well-balanced, clean head and lovely expression, good rise of skull and dark nicely shaped eyes. Good front with ample forechest, well off for bone, and tight feet. A beautifully arched neck flows into well-laid shoulders, a correctly sloping topline, and ideal tail set. Good spring of rib and correct angulation with a good turn of stifle. Moved well, expertly handled, and pulled out to the last four. Sure to gain top honours – just needs a little time.
2nd - Mr. & Mrs. G. & L. Brough’s Limubox Scotch Gold
Eighteen-month-old red and white. A confident, substantial youngster with excellent bone and tight cat-like feet. Strong neck leading to a gently sloping topline, developing into muscular hindquarters which he used effectively on the move. A pleasing head although I preferred the cleaner head of the winner, his dark expressive eyes, good mouth with evident chin is all boxer, he powered around the ring, taking it all in his stride. Well handled.
3rd – Mr AJ & Mrs DA Huggins, Boxania Rock And Roll Star For Daervlish
Post Graduate Dog – 5 (2 abs)
1st – Mr. & Mrs. M. & J. Merritt’s Diceulon Top Hat and Tails at Merquin (AI)
Two-year-old brindle and white. He stands square presenting a good outline, correctly sloping topline and good tail set, a good front and forechest with tight feet. Would prefer slightly more rear angulation and width of thigh to balance the outline, he has a pleasing, balanced head with dark eye and a good mouth.
2nd – Mr. & Mrs. L. & P. Lafferty’s, Jimbren Legacy Lives On Through Taralord
Fifteen-month-old brindle and white youngster. Slightly longer in cast than the first, well off for bone with tight feet. Head slightly over-wrinkled for me, but he has dark, expressive eyes which will tighten with time and a good mouth. Moved adequately, just needing time to strengthen and develop throughout.

Two-year-old brindle and white male, presented in superb condition. Eye-catching outline, standing square and well off for bone. Tight feet, good rear angulation, and strong hocks. Beautifully balanced, clean head with dark expressive eyes, square muzzle with broad nostrils, and good mouth and evident chin. He moves with drive and purpose, always commanding attention and completely in tune with his handler. Delighted to award him his 2nd CC and Best of Breed – went on to Working Group 3. Just before posting my critique, I see he has now gained his 3rd CC, congratulations.

Almost two year old red and white, another quality male. Eye-catching, perfectly presented, he was slightly longer in cast than the first, in superb muscular condition with a correctly sloping topline and well muscled quarters which for me just lack a little angulation. Tight feet and evident forechest. Pleasing head with nicely shaped dark expressive eyes, well-placed ears, a good mouth and a broad well-developed muzzle. He moved well and with purpose, expertly handled.
