FRENCH BULLDOG CLUB OF ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 5TH JULY 2025
Thank you to the Officers and Committee of the FBCE for inviting me to judge at your Breed Club Summer Championship Show, it is such an honour to be invited by the parent club. Thank you to all the exhibitors who brought their dogs under me, it really was such a lovely entry of wonderful Frenchies, I found quality and breed type in practically every class. Toplines are improving, movement still needs to be addressed. The ring was outside and very warm with strong gusts of wind but the dogs took it all in their stride. A special mention must go to Linda Quin who stewarded the ring singlehandedly and kept everything running so smoothly, it is always a pleasure having you as my wingman, thank you.
Held in conjunction with Boston Championship show, I was very surprised while going over dogs on the table; to be informed by some exhibitors how well their dogs had been doing in the other ring and at other shows. I have absolutely no interest in any other ring when I am judging, and it would not influence my decisions in any event. As shows will continue to be held in conjunction with others, it really is not acceptable, please do not do this.
BABY PUPPY DOG (1,1)
BABY PUPPY BITCH (4,0)
1ST Mrs Westmorland’s Aldhammill’s Lucie Locket at Gailbulls, a 5 month old brindle pied bitch with a lovely clear coat and excellent pigment round her eyes and lips. Her head is square and she has a soft kind expression, good width and depth to her muzzle, dark eyes and well set bat ears. Obviously developing in body, she has pleasing bone and substance, a cobby outline and a gentle roach over her loin, with a small neatly set tail. She has width and depth to her brisket and a good cut up, with moderate angulation front and rear. Her pasterns should tighten as she develops. She moved well. Best Baby Puppy Bitch and Best Baby Puppy in Show.
2nd Mrs Poulson’s Aldhammill’s Madamoiselle at Patchdown, litter sister to 1st place, she has a nicely marked brindle coat, and a pretty feminine head with dark round eyes, open nares, good depth to her muzzle and width to her lower jaw, with a good upsweep. She has a compact frame and a straight front with depth to her brisket, a gentle roach and small tail, overall she is not as mature as her sister, and was a tad erratic on the move today.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (6,0)
1ST Miss Timm’s Olijah Going In Deep, a 7 month old dog with a smooth finely textured glossy dark brindle coat covering his compact balanced frame. He is very pleasing to the eye and everything about him is balanced and in proportion. His arched neck is of moderate length and leads down to well laid shoulders. He has depth and width of brisket and a developing forechest, a straight front and sufficient bone and substance. His back has a gentle rise over the loin, rounding off nicely over the croup, good width of thigh and a gentle cut up. He has a masculine headset, dark round eyes and a kind intelligent expression. He has cushioning to his tight lips, his muzzle is of good depth and width, and he has a pleasing upsweep of jaw with good dentition. His stop is well defined, and he has gentle wrinkling to his domed forehead. Good ear placement completes the picture. He was extremely well handled and moved so soundly for one so young. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Show, I will watch his progress with interest.
2nd Smith, Smith & Pratt’s Khanin His A Very Naughty Boy. Aged 8 months, he has a clear fawn coat and a black mask. Differing in type to 1st place, he has a larger square head, well placed medium sized batears, dark round eyes set level with his stop, pleasing width and depth to his muzzle with ample cushioning to lips and fill to undereye. He is sturdy and compact, with good depth of chest and a moderate cut up, a gentle roach over his loin and a short tail. He is already well muscled with a clearly defined second thigh, good turn of stifle and hocks are well let down. He lived up to his name and gave his handler a hard time, but moved well when settled and it was lovely to see his clown like antics.

He has a sturdy compact frame with good bone and substance, and a masculine headset with dark expressive eyes, good width and depth to muzzle, a well defined stop and gentle wrinkling to his domed forehead. He should grow into his ears as he fully matures. His front is straight and he has depth of chest and spring of rib, a powerful neck into well placed shoulders and a strong back with a gentle rise over his loins, rounding off over the croup. He was handled and shown well.

His dark eyes have a mischievous glint, he has a defined stop, good width of lower jaw with a slight turn up, good dentition with depth and width to his muzzle. He has a masculine head piece, expressive eyes level with his stop, padding to his muzzle of good width, and a strong square jaw with pleasing upsweep and layback. He has a wide square front, with good depth of chest, a tidy cut up and strong loin. His neck flows down to well placed shoulders and he has moderate angulation front and rear. His head is square and masculine, with dark correctly placed eyes giving him a kind intelligent expression. His muzzle is well cushioned, with depth and width, a good upsweep and strong jaw, his cheeks are well developed and he has gentle wrinkling to his domed forehead. His ears are of correct size and shape, well positioned and used to advantage at all times. With bone and substance on his cobby frame, he has a straight front, tight pasterns and neat feet with black nails. His powerful well arched neck is of good length, and leads down into well laid shoulders. He has excellent width and depth of chest, and a good cut up. She has a good mask and pigment and a strong headset, with dark eyes and a kind expression, width to lower jaw with a good upsweep, plenty of cushioning to her lips, and a well defined stop. Her ear set is too low, but they are wide at base and have rounded tops. She has a compact profile, with moderate angulation front and rear, and developing chest and spring of rib. Her tail is high set which makes her appear to have a level topline, and she could carry a bit more weight.
SPECIAL OPEN PIED BITCH (3,1)
1ST Ms Hendry’s Castleallen Rising Star IKC, see 2nd Yearling Bitch
2nd Ms Hutchinson’s Gailbulls Miss Gabrielle for Oschalben, a 17 month old nicely marked brindle pied with a small compact outline. She has a strong headset, with good width to lower jaw and muzzle, and a good upsweep. In profile her muzzle is well defined, and she has well developed cheeks, lovely dark eyes, and a well defined stop. Her neck is nicely arched and of moderate length. She has a short strong back, a gentle rise over the loin and nicely rounded rump with a short low set tail. She has pleasing spring of rib and depth of chest, a short loin and good turn of stifle. She was handled well, but was unsettled on the move, and in true Frenchie style she decided she would rather lay down in the ring!
VETERAN BITCH (6,3) I have critiqued all 3 veterans in this most enjoyable class.
1ST Mr & Mrs Swateridge’s Ch Xentique B’witched for Taffique JW, a beautiful 8 year old brindle who did not stop showing the whole time she was in the ring. She was a pleasure to go over on the table, and it is clear why she is a champion, she is full of breed type. Her head is feminine and everything is well placed and of the correct size and shape. Her round dark eyes have a soft melting expression, and she clearly adores her handler. Her front is straight, pasterns tight and she has sufficient bone, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs, with narrowing beyond the ribs to give definition to her short loin. Her back is short with a gentle roach. She stacks herself beautifully and moved fluidly round the ring, Best Veteran Bitch
2nd Mr, Mrs & Mrs Vearncombe & Hale’s Tytorro Paint It Black with Ruption Knightcott JW, just turned 7 years, she has a well marked brindle coat and was presented in excellent condition. She has a pretty feminine headset, dark round eyes and a kind expression. Her bat ears are of correct size and shape, upright and well positioned. She has gentle wrinkling on her domed forehead, a well defined stop, and good width and length of muzzle. She also has a straight front and sufficient bone, a deep chest and spring of rib, a gentle cut up, short loin and muscular thighs. Not quite the topline of 1st place, she moved very well
3rd Ms Hutchinson’s Exquisitus Regnisus, just one month short of 10 years, this lovely young lady shows off her silver frosting with pride. Fawn with a mask, she has the most mischievous expression, and a hint of naughtiness in her dark round eyes. She has a fabulous earset of correct size and shape, well positioned and upright. Her lower jaw is wide and square, with good dentition. She is compact and solid, with ample bone and substance, moderate length of neck and a short back with a gentle roach over the loin. She has an impressive width to her thighs, and a good turn of stifle. She moved so well round the ring, clearly enjoying her day out, and put several of the youngsters to shame with her energy and showmanship. What a delightful Frenchie to end the day with.
