The Boston Terrier Club of Scotland Open Show 5th October 2025
It is always such an honour to be invited to judge a breed club show, so thank you so much to the Officers and Committee of the Boston Terrier Club of Scotland for inviting me to judge your Open show on the 5th October 2025. The venue was lovely and the ring was spacious, and ran very well indeed under the guidance of my very capable ring stewards, Kim Logan and Valerio De Iaco, thank you both. Special thanks to all the exhibitors who entered under me, it was a pleasure to go over all your wonderful Bostons.
PUPPY DOG (3,1)
1ST Miss Harris’ Kroni Mr Don Pedjony for Petarris (Imp Srb). 5 days short of his 1st birthday, this brindle and white male is compact with a small square head, nicely arched neck of good length, a level topline and short tail. He has large round dark eyes, a kind alert expression, a black nose with open nostrils, and a well defined stop. He is growing into his ears, and is developing in width and depth of muzzle. His front is straight and he has short strong pasterns, good width and depth of chest, developing in spring of rib. He is short coupled and has pleasing width of thigh, although he has a tendency to overextend at the back, affecting his turn of stifle and overall outline. He moved well, just needs some attention when stacked. BPD
2nd Mr McCallum & Miss Laing’s Burlesk Varlove Billy Whizz Bang, a 10 month old black and white dog, his development is age appropriate in all areas, with a pleasing head and expression, dark round eyes, a defined stop, small well placed ears, with flat skull in between. Longer cast than 1st place, he has a level topline and slight curve at the croup to a small low set tail. His neck is of good length, leading down to sloping shoulders, his ribs are carried well back, and he has a short loin and good turn of stifle. He was very exuberant going round the ring, making his movement hard to assess today.
JUNIOR DOG (1,0)
1ST Misses Wildman & Davis’ Canmoy’s Boston Coco Pops at Wildax Rowendale (Imp FIN). A 16 month old well marked brindle and white, he presents a very mature upright outline, masculine and full of confidence. His head is square, with flat cheeks and fill under his dark round eyes, good depth and width of muzzle and a broad square jaw, he also has excellent pigment and small well set ears. In profile I would prefer a bit more neck for complete balance. He is sturdy, with pleasing bone, good depth and width of chest, his ribs are well sprung and carried well back, he has a short tight loin and strong well muscled thighs. His level topline rounds at the croup ending with a small low set tail. He moved with drive from the rear, his front movement needs to tighten up.
POST GRADUATE DOG (2,0)
1ST Mrs Harrison & Stoner’s Vickvally The Big Dill at Honeydukes, a 19 month old black and white dog with a lovely sheen to his smooth coat, he is compact and presents a balanced outline. He has a square head of good proportions, dark round eyes with a kind intelligent expression, small triangular ears, correctly placed and flat between. His muzzle has depth and width, with a square jaw and excellent pigment. He has depth of chest and spring of rib, a short loin and a pleasing turn of stifle, with hocks well let down. He was handled well and moved gracefully round the ring in all directions.
2nd Ms Sambrook’s Ringablok King of Stars, a 2 year old black brindle & white dog with a square masculine head, large round dark eyes, good width and depth of muzzle, and a broad jaw. He presents a sturdy outline with bone and muscle, good depth of chest and spring of rib. I would prefer a slightly longer neck for balance. He has a square outline and a short loin, a good turn of stifle and a small low set tail. He was not happy on the carpet today, making his movement hard to assess.
LIMIT DOG (2,0)
1ST Mrs Rostron-Parker’s Rosparquier’s Late Edition, a 22 month old brindle and white dog, with a well marked short fine coat, presented in excellent condition. He has a strong masculine headset, square and in proportion to his body. He has an alert intelligent expression, well placed ears, width and depth to muzzle, and a well defined stop. His neck is slightly arched and of good length, leading down to well laid shoulders, a straight front, good depth of chest with a gentle cut up, and moderate angulation front and rear. He moved well round the ring, and was well handled. Reserve Best Dog
2nd Mrs Harkins’ Kiarzo Side By Side, a seal brindle and white dog, coming up to 2 years old. Another with a well marked coat, presented in excellent condition. He has a delightful breed typical headset, square and well proportioned, with good width of jaw, and width and depth of muzzle. He has a intelligent determined expression, and his ears are small, thin and triangular however he was reluctant to use them on occasion. He has a compact balanced outline, with a pleasing amount of bone, and he is well muscled throughout. He also has a straight front, and good depth of chest, with ribs carried well back, a level topline and small low set tail. He gave his handler a hard time today on the table and on the move, in typical Boston fashion! This made his movement hard to assess.

His topline is level, and he has good length of neck with a slight arch, and his shoulders are sloping and well laid back. He has depth and width of chest, a straight front, and good spring of rib. With moderate angulation front and rear, he moved soundly in all directions maintaining his topline and was at one with his handler. It was a pleasure to award him Best Dog.
2nd Mr McCallum’s Burlesk Tiger King, a 5 year old brindle and white male, he presents a compact balanced outline, with everything in proportion. His head is square, with well placed dark round eyes and a kind expression. His stop is well defined, he has depth and width to his muzzle, good width to jaw and excellent pigment. He used his well set ears to advantage. In profile he has a well proportioned neck with a slight arch, his shoulders are well laid back, a straight front, tight pasterns, good depth of chest and spring of ribs, a short loin and hocks well let down. I would prefer more turn of stifle. He has a level back, and a curve to his croup leading to a small low set tail. He also moved and was handled well.
