Utility Group Boston Championship Show 2025 Judge - Stuart Payne It was an honour to judge my first utility group at this friendly show, many thanks to the committee for the invitation & to the judges for sending forward some lovely dogs for me to judge. I shortlisted 8 for further consideration, the Akita, Chow Chow, Japanese Akita Inu, Lhasa Apso, Miniature Poodle, Miniature Schnauzer, Shar Pei & Shih Tzu. My winner of the group was the Miniature Poodle, Ch Michandy It’s Showtime at Pupstar (Mr A & Mrs S Lee-Morris). At just over two years of age, I understand he was winning his 28th CC today & I can understand why. He has the most beautiful silhouette & underneath that exquisitely groomed coat, he has great bone & body, short level back & strong loin. He has a magnificent head, well chiselled with dark almond eye giving such an magestic expression. He flowed round the ring with great attitude, holding his firm outline at all times. Delighted to give him his first championship group win. Runner up in the group was the well known Akita, Ch Stecal’s All Guns Blazing (Ms C Bevis, Ms F Corr & Mr K Venezia). This boy really is in peak condition, broad masculine head & strong muzzle, small dark almond eye & well set ears. He is so well balanced, muscular neck, well developed forechest, strong bone & level topline, finished with soft, dense coat. He powered round the ring, holding his shape & correct tail carriage. Very close decision between the first two. Group 3 went to the Chow Chow, Newfangled Wish Upon A Star (Mrs E Bone). Not yet 18 months, this girl gained her title on the day. Classic broad head, dark eye & good ear set giving the correct scowl. She is so well put together with excellent bone & body, compact frame & high set tail. Profuse coat of great quality. She moved round the ring with correct pendulum action & super attitude. I am sure she will get even better as she matures. Completing the line up with Group 4 was the Shar Pei, Ch Witchgait Just One Slice (Miss S Sutherland). Balanced head with broad muzzle & moderate wrinkle, dark almond eye & neat ear. She is well bodied with strong neck, excellent outline & condition. Moved out so well with great poise. Hard to believe she is 7 years old, a real credit to the breed
