Irish Collie Club

Breed: Collie (Rough)

Irish Collie Club 28th September 2025

Thank you so much to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at their championship show. I’ve long supported this club as an exhibitor, so it was an honour to be invited to judge for you. Whilst the entry wasn’t big, there was bags of quality giving me plenty of choice and I have to say, presentation was excellent throughout, thank you.

PD (1): 1st Falletto’s Verysuper Blak Di Cambiano, 10-month-old tricolour. Clean wedge head with a flat skull and muzzle of equal length, separated by a slight stop. Lovely, dark almond eye set obliquely and neat ears. Moderately angulated front and rear with a good length of upper arm, well bent stifle and short rear pasterns. Super feet with arched toes. Lovely length of neck, but I’d prefer a touch more length of back to give a balanced outline. Not 100% happy in his surroundings, so looked a bit anxious on the move. In good coat which was presented beautifully. He has lots of promise but needs time to mature. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Show.

YD (2): 1st Kelly’s Ballahanna Betrayed, 16-month-old sable & white. I really liked this young boy, not one I was conscious of having seen before today. Lovely head, clean and balanced with a super almond eye and the neatest of high set ears. Muzzle of good length and good underjaw, although I would prefer a touch more moulding to his foreface. Lovely outline, with a well arched neck of good length and good length of back, deep chest and good spring of rib. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm of good length with good bone and feet. Slight rise over a short loin and gently sloping croup with low set tail. Good hind angulation and moved with reach and drive. In good, close fitting and well-presented coat. Well-deserved RCC, and one I shall be watching in the future, best of luck with him as he matures.

2nd Harris’ Geosamka Loves to Love at Ithilien, 23-month-old sable & white. A more mature male carrying a wealth of coat which hides his outline. Lovely dark eye set correctly with a flat skull and moulded foreface. A touch wider in back skull with wider set ears. Enough neck, which is hidden by coat, and good length of back. Super bone and feet, with well laid shoulder and good depth of well sprung rib. Super hind angulation with well bent stifle and short rear pasterns. Showed and moved well.

PGD (1): 1st Mitchell, Mitchell & Jordan’s Avonfair Aloysius JW, 2-year-old sable & white. Flat skull, good length of muzzle, good underjaw and clean stop. A touch wider in back skull and I’d prefer a slightly tighter ear carriage. Lovely almond eye set obliquely and good underjaw. Good neck and level back with slight rise over the loin. Moderate angulation front and rear with good bone and feet. Sound and balanced on the move. Presented beautifully.

OD (3,1) 2 very nice boys in this class, both with different qualities1st Wall’s Daliyhaa Master Craftsman, 3-year-old tricolour. I loved this boy’s overall outline and elegance; he gives an overall impression of dignified calm. Clean head with no sign of flaring with a flat skull, rounded muzzle of equal length, slight stop, well set almond eye of good size and well-set ears giving an overall expression which is sweet but masculine. Super length of leg and back with a well arched neck of good length. Well laid-back shoulder and good return of upper arm with super hind quarters in balance. Moved effortlessly with reach and drive. In excellent coat and condition. It was my pleasure to award him the DCC and Best in Show, thank you for bringing him.

2nd McCarte’s Ch Roughrigg Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, 6-year-old sable & white I have judged and done well for previously. I love this boy’s head, so masculine yet still sweet in expression. Very balanced with no flaring, the loveliest eyes and well-set ears and fabulous moulding of foreface. Well angulated front and rear which allowed him to move with reach and drive, with good bone, good topline and slight rise over the loin, but couldn’t quite match the overall elegance in outline of the winner of this class or the yearling dog.

VD (2,1): 1st Jopson’s Lillyway Lattimer at Nithview, 8-year-old tricolour. Clean, balanced head with a flat skull and good length of muzzle. Eye of good size and set but ears a touch wide. Well laid-back shoulder but a touch steeper in upper arm which meant he was slightly shorter in stride. Super length of back and good depth of chest giving a balanced outline. Super hind angulation and neat feet with well arched toes. Moved soundly to take Best Veteran in Show.

JB (1): 1st Francis’ Roughrigg Rene Russo at Peblu, 17-month-old sable & white. Lovely balanced head with good stop, flat skull, good underjaw, well set ears and a super eye of good shape, set obliquely. Good length of neck and back with well laid-back shoulder and well bent stifles. Just starting to blow coat which spoils her topline which, when you get hands on, is correct. Bit untidy going away.

YB (2,1): 1st Allen’s Roughrigg Rant ‘N’ Rave, 20-month-old sable & white. Lots to like about this young girl. Clean head with well-placed stop separating a flat skull and a muzzle of equal length. I would prefer a touch more moulding to her foreface. Lovely eye and well-set ears carried correctly. Super neck which is arched and of good length, with excellent angulation front and rear which allows her to move so well, with reach and drive. Balanced outline with good length of back, slight rise over the loin and gently sloping croup with low set tail of good length. In between coats at the moment but what she has is in good condition and texture. Certainly, one who will benefit from a bit more time to mature, but when she does, should have an exciting future.

PGB (1): 1st Harvey’s Afterhero Cheeky Angel at Wicani (Imp Hun), 2-year-old blue merle of super colour. She has the cleanest of heads with a slight stop, flat skull and well-moulded foreface. Lovely almond eyes set obliquely, and ears set high, all giving a super expression. Super neck and well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Lovely length of back and well angulated rear. I would have preferred slightly more arched toes. Moved freely and soundly.

LB (3): A lovely class with 3 super girls to judge, 1st Llewellyn’s Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina, 3-year-old sable & white. Now this girl really surprised me, in a nice way! Very balanced throughout with a clean head with no flaring or depth although slightly deeper in stop. Lovely muzzle of good length and well moulded foreface with good underjaw. Lovely dark almond eye of good size and set correctly and well-set ears of good size which all gives her a lovely, feminine expression. Lovely, elegant outline with a super neck and length of back with a slight rise over the loin and low set tail. Well laid-back shoulder and excellent return of upper arm with well angulated rear with well let down rear pasterns and good bend of stifle. Excellent bone and neat feet with well arched toes. In super coat, which was expertly presented and good condition. Very sound coming and going and in profile, moved with reach and drive. Well deserving of the RCC, and best of luck with her in the future.

2nd Cronk’s Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish, 3-year-old sable & white. There is so much to like about this girl, she excels in build and conformation with a super, well arched neck and super length of back giving a balanced outline, with excellent angulation front and rear. Lovely clean head with a flat skull and balanced in foreface. Lovely eye set correctly, but I would have preferred slightly smaller and tighter set ears. Moved with reach and drive, a very close decision between the two, I just preferred the expression and femininity of the winner.

3rd McCarte’s Roughrigg One of a Kind

OB (6): Another lovely class to judge, full of quality. 1st McCarte’s Ch Roughrigg Remember Me, 5-year-old shaded sable & white. Such an elegant girl with so much to like. A lovely head with a gorgeous almond eye set so well, flat skull and well moulded muzzle of equal length, slight stop and well-set ears which gave her a melting, feminine expression. Good neck and good length of back with excellent spring of rib and depth of chest, with a slight rise over the loin and low set tail. Well laid-back shoulder and excellent return of upper arm with well angulated hindquarters, super bone and neat feet. In full bloom with a coat of harsh topcoat and dense undercoat, which was presented beautifully. Really strode out on the move with plenty of drive. Very well handled and could not be denied the BCC and Reserve Best in Show, thank you for bringing her.

2nd Howard’s Gib Ch Serenlas Angel of Casatentola, 3-year-old tricolour, very different in style to the winner but with lots to like. Very pretty head which is refined and elegant. Lovely expression with dark almond eyes set obliquely and well-set ears. Clean outline with a well arched neck of good length and good length of back to give balance. Well angulated front and rear and low set tail. Had a fright on the move earlier in the day but once she got in her stride, moved freely. Not in full bloom, but coat is of good harsh texture.

3rd Walsh’s Ir Ch Skabona What a Lady at Joshren

VB (3,1):

1st Drewery’s Evalane Sticky Toffee Lollie at Elshadene, 8-year-old sable & white. Clean head with a lovely eye and well-set ears giving a super expression. Good shape with a lovely neck and good length of back. Good angulation front and rear with short rear pasterns and neat feet. Moved with drive. Best Veteran Bitch.

2nd Francis’ Ch Peblu Gold Desire, 8-year-old sable & white, not showing her best today and was a bit reluctant. Balanced in head with a kind eye set correctly. Ears a touch wider set. Good outline with a lovely neck and good angulation front and rear.
