Thank you to the Crufts committee for inviting me to me to judge our wonderful breed at Crufts, such a huge honour & memorable day, I had 2 excellent stewards who kept the ring running smoothly and me on track. Its nearly 9 yrs since I last judged the breed and it has changed in many areas, but was delighted with my entry and in some of my classes, just didn’t have enough place cards.
Exhibitors please note, Judges are now asked to look out for dogs that they consider, according to the “Body Condition score” under or over weight, a few today were still carrying their Christmas indulgencies which had a detrimental effect on outlines & movement. A few things I noted, incorrect bites creeping in and some overly long in foreface, our breed head is so important. Flat feet with weak front or back pasterns and overly long hip to hock construction, all undesirable in the breed. The Crufts carpet is very unforgiving and showed up some very close hind movement, some accentuated by excessive coat in the hock region, colour of the tan needs to be watched, black pencilling is allowed but smudges and dark forefaces are undesirable, please consider all of these things when breeding or we could lose our wonderful breed type to a generic black & tan dog.

1ST 9986 - Int/multi Ch Amscot Dream Lover (Mr G Krause)
This dog presented slightly more of a stylish stature than I would normally go for, he had enough bone, muscle and substance for the weight carrying hunter that I was looking for, his drive and soundness won him the class today, head, not strong but masculine with lovely proportions & plenty of work, dark eye and kind intelligent expression, strong neck into well placed shoulders, elbows well let down and under him, correct length of upper arm creating good extension going forward, complimented by an unexaggerated strong rear construction & drive, deep in brisket, ribs well back, strong loin, good topline which was held in action, in great coat with good colour, came to life on the move with slashing tail. Handled very well. Res CC
2ND 10074 - Sh Ch Hernwood Neptune Sea (Mr P & Mrs C A, Miss C Sandiford & Lewis)
Balanced in profile with correct bone and colour, Lovely Gordon brick on brick head, kind eye, long well set ears, strong neck into well placed shoulders, plenty of forechest, deep in brisket with well sprung deep ribs, balanced strong rear construction & muscle tone, excellent side on extension but going away he was weaker and moved close behind, although I did note he was giving his handler a hard time, in full coat.

1ST 10063 - Casino Black Lofty at Glenmaurangi (Imp Pol) (Mrs A & Ms T Phillips & Watkins)
Raw 8mth puppy, liked his head shape & proportions, kind dark eye, pleasing front assembly with good depth, a little long in loin which needs to strengthen as he drops his topline on the move, good bend of stifle & width of thigh, sloping off slightly over the croup atm. Needs to grow into his tail, which flagged on the move, Short hocks, lots of coat. Needs to tighten in front, time on his side.
2ND 10020 - Gailiech Wirnpa (Mrs F & Mr A Hogg)
Different type to 1, Pleasing outline, head deeper than 1, long neck into well laid shoulders, good forechest, deep in brisket, ribs well back but need time to develop in substace, atm, his topline rises slightly & drops over the croup, loads of time on his side. Moved well good colour.

Liked his size and balance for age, nothing overdone, lovely rich colour, masculine head of good proportions, dark eye, correct earset, strong neck flowing into broad well laid shoulders, correct length of upper arm, elbows well let down and under him, enough depth of brisket for balance, short coupled and strong in the loin, enough width of thigh and bend of stifle for balance and strength, well padded feet, moved well, handler needs to extend her stride for him to flow on the move .
2ND 10002 - Caradilis Fiach Dubh (Mrs S Gregg)
Taller & longer cast than 1, would prefer him slightly shorter in muzzle for breed type but head of good depth and correct over the scull, strong neck, just a little heavy in shoulder nice depth & width of brisket, ribs well back, a little longer in loin than 1, good width of thigh, short hocks, tight well padded feet on legs of correct flat bone, would prefer a clear tan, moved well . Again time on his side.

I liked his size, balance, shape & confident attitude, he has a strong well developed body, correct front and hind angulation which showed in his strong true movement, plenty of fore chest and good depth to him. masculine head with correct proportions, a little plain atm but I am sure maturity will bring the desired chiselling, dark eye, correct ear set. Good arch to his neck into correct shoulders, tight feet, short strong hocks, kept his topline on the move, great coat, clear colour, will watch with interest.
2ND 9982 - Lainnireach Star Gazer (Miss J Cuthbertson)
Another promising male, again I liked his balance and overall shape, younger & slightly smaller than 1, his head well shaped with dark eyes & gentle expression, body well ribbed back, short strong loin area, level topline, with good tail run off, which he used on the move, correct length hip to hock with a, with a good width to 2nd thigh giving a gentle bend of stifle, short hocks, moved with reach and precision. 4th in Junior, A male with substance who still needs time, masculine head, for me a tad too deep in flew, correct slightly rounded scull with a, long ears set low, would prefer a darker eye. Strong neck with good arch down to well laid shoulders, lovely forechest ,deep in brisket, good spring & well ribbed back. Slight rise in his back with his croup a little steep. ATM his hind needs to develop on for complete balance, in lovely coat, more settled in this class moved with better drive & tail action.
2ND 10017 - Ronaldsbill Trail Blazer at Bridgemere (Ms B E Harrison-Street)
Upstanding confident happy dog, with a good colour & coat, head of correct proportions and dark eye giving a kind expression, not quiet the lay back of shoulder or fore chest but, he flows nicely from neck to tail with a deep brisket, short level back, slight arch to his loin, broad muscular hind with balanced length, lovely bend of stifle, short hocks, handler needs to stride out to give him more drive, used his correctly set tail well.

2ND 10097 - Longrow Jean Genie (Mr B J & Mrs E M Williams)
Much younger than the winner, pleasing across his scull, would prefer him squarer in the muzzle. Unexaggerated in outline, long clean neck into broad, sloping well back shoulders. Elbows well let down, correct flat bone nice shape feet. Deep in brisket. Topline not as clean as 1 well made hind quarters. Not the coat of some but presented in great condition. Moved with drive.

Strong legs & feet with correct bone, elbows well let down, deep in chest, strong level topline, short across his wide loin, strong muscular rear conformation with short hocks, enabling him to covered the ground well, in good coat & condition.
2ND 10088 - Forester’s Northern Light of Darkmoor at Muckhart JW (Imp Deu) (Miss E Tait)

This boy for me meets the definition of a Weight Carrying Hunter, l Loved him for breed type Classic brick on brick head with plenty of work under his dark eyes, giving a melting yet cheeky expression, well set ears. Stands on a straight front with flat bone & tight well padded feet. A good fore chest, clean strong neck into well laid shoulders, deep in brisket, plenty of heart room, level topline, shorter in couplings than some but balanced to his rear with good width to his 2nd thigh, unexaggerated bend of stifle, powered round the ring using his short well set tail, in gleaming coat, my notes say tip top muscular condition , his weight needs to be watched, lovely colour to his markings. CC
2ND 9963 - Sh Ch Palangor Moonlight Echo at Pangarak (Mrs L Bain)
Another lovely boy & pushed hard for the class, balanced all through, again his head shape is mature with correct proportions a well defined stop & plenty of work. Balanced depth and width of brisket, ribs well back, strong arched loin, level topline with good tail run off. Strong muscular unexaggerated rear with short hocks. Good in outline smaller than some but with substance and breed type. Head a little broad in back skull, good stop, parallel line to his muzzle with work beneath his dark eyes. Strong muscular neck into correct forequarters, straight front and tight well arched & padded toes. Deep in brisket with well sprung ribs, plenty of heart room, short slightly arched loin, good level topline and tail run off. Broad Muscular hindquarters with short strong hocks, moved with a good flowing drive. In good coat.
2ND 10010 - Yennadon Reiss Sgwc (Ms M J Halliday)
11yrs and he could have out moved many a youngster, not quiet the balance of 1, head stronger in the back skull than I like, strong neck neck into well muscled shoulders, elbows well let down & under him, a tad short in depth of brisket but good spring of rib which were well back, his hind quarters could be broader, with a better bend of stifle but he drove around the ring using his tail. Grey in the face now but body colour still good.

What can I say that hasn’t been said before, WOW she is a stunner, and certainly belies her years. Feminine noble head with plenty of work, and good scull shape which has a lovely flow into her neck, dark eye and low close set ears accentuating her appealing expression, her neck flows into correctly placed shoulders, elbows under & well let down, straightest of fronts with pronounced forechest, close over the withers, good depth and plenty of heartroom. Her outline is mature and balanced her rear with correct angles not overly long and strong muscle tone throughout, in gleaming coat & muscular condition, she stormed effortlessly round the ring, and again, after a very long day, in the group, a one in a million girl, handled expertly at every step. Thrilled to be able to award her CC, BOB & BV.

Close between 1& 2, but 1 Loved 1 for breed type, sweet well proportioned feminine head, already with plenty of work, giving her the Gordon look, long strong but lean neck into good laying shoulders, close at withers, straight legs with enough bone for her size, good depth to her brisket but need to develop in this area, loin slightly arched, like her front end the rear just needs to develop on for complete balance & but its all there. Good topline and tail run off, in good coat, lovely colour, moved steadily. Will watch as she matures.
2ND 10084 - Kewstoke Sea Queen Zena (Ms W D Smith)
Smaller in size, Straight in front with flat bone, complementing angles & width to her front and rear construction, head of good proportions, kind dark eye, ears laid low, she flowed from her shoulder through to her tail with, short across her loin, for me, her colour was a little over done, moved well.

A girl of substance, with a correctly proportioned Head, neck long clean & strong, into well placed wide bladed shoulders, clean across her withers and good depth to her brisket, straight front with forechest, elbows under her and let down, good feet. Flowing topline with short strong loin, correct in the croup creating a good tail run off, she has a rear to match the front with good width to her 2nd thigh, creating a lovely bend to her stifles, short hocks which she used to flow with power on the move. Once her coat catches up I am sure she will be a force to reckon with.
2ND 9990 - Benbuie Chinook at Helian (Ms Potter)
Another girl with a classic head, brick on brick, sweet gentle expression, dark eyes & close low ears, her neck is strong into well placed shoulders good depth to her brisket just not as developed in this area as 1, well bladed bone, tight well padded feet. Enough width to her rear which was well muscled, short hacks, moved well, handler needs to gain confidence to bring out the best in her dog, she is lovely. Good colour & coat.
