Basset Hound Club

Breed: Basset Hound
THE BASSET HOUND CLUB CH SHOW 20 JULY 2025 I would like to thank the committee of The Basset Hound Club for their very kind invitation to judge the bitches at their annual Championship Show. I found all the dogs to be both sound and with clean heads, my only concern was that a number carried far too much condition on the day. BPB 3(0) 1. Green’s Becky v Grunsven at Braithwell (imp NLD) NAF TAF. Very nice baby puppy bitch, good head and expression, balanced fore and aft, the better top-line on the day, good tail set and carriage, a good ground covering gait. 2. Freudenreich’s Lockolea Sweet Like Honey. Not quite so well balanced as 1 at this stage, forechest yet to develop, good reach of neck, will grow into her back length, enthusiastic ground covering gait. 3. Jones’ Clanwillow Kiss The Girl. VB 2(0) 1. Jones’ Clanwillow Shining Bright. 7 year old veteran shown in good coat and condition, clean head, good reach of neck, level top-line, medium bone, good set of tail, parallel ground covering gait, BVB & BOSVIS. 2. Allchorne’s Nelgus Cinnamon Spice VW. Magnificent 9 year old bitch, classic head, good leathers, good reach of neck, strong top-line, absolutely sound on the move. MPB 2(1) 1. Parkes’ Bessalin Well I Never. Very nice bitch, good length of leg, nice forechest, powerful shoulders, good top-line, absolutely sound on the move. PB 6(2) 1. Woodworth’s Woodrich Precipitus Prudie. Very nice red and white bitch, feminine head and expression, good reach of neck, good feet, correct bone, level top-line, excellent angulation, good tail set and carriage, easy ground covering gait, good prospect, RBCC, BPB & BPIS. 2. Johnston’s Burnvale Echoes and Dreams. A puppy with some good qualities but a little bit unsettled on the day and doubtless will mature to advantage. 3. Pearson’s Amazing White A Story With A Tail at Armardio (imp NLD). JB 2(0) 1. Parkes’ Bessalin White Rabbit. Difficult to assess, an 18 month old versus a 13 month old at this stage, good feminine head and expression, nice feet, powerful shoulders, carrying a little too much condition at this stage but strong top-line with a good parallel gait. 2. Ellrich’s Malrich Foxtrot. This junior is still very much a baby with lots of quality, yet to be realised, medium minus bone, fair shoulder, good turn of stifle, nice top-line and good ground covering gait. YB 3(0) 1. Unett’s Harvidene Cuckoo In The Nest. Won the class on the day with her overall balance and movement, good feminine and well set shoulders, medium bone, good feet, shown in full coat and good condition. 2. Shadbolt’s Woferlow Storm Princess into Akura. As much foreface as I would like, a little loose in the top-line but moved well in profile. 3. Melbourne/Murray/Fitzpatrick-Odahamier’s Diheath Marta. GB 3(2) 1. Allchorne’s Nelgus Coco Pop. Nice 2 year old tri colour, good forechest, well angulated, slightly loose top-line on the day but moved to advantage. PGB 2(1) 1. Allchorne’s Nelgus Lucky Charm. A nice youngster, yet somewhat ‘reserved’ on the day, stands well in profile, strong in top-line, nice reach of neck and a sound ground covering gait, good croup, tail set and carriage. LB 9(1) A difficult class to judge with a number of exhibits carrying too much condition on the day. 1. McLean’s Switherland Gabriella at Stookewood. Colvin’s Lagniappe Time To Shine. Won the class on her movement, nice head and expression with excellent angulation, powerful shoulders, powerful rump, correct angulation of croup and out-moved the class. 2. Cruickshank’s Burnvale Dazzling Diamond at Culsalmond. Another well angulated bitch with a lovely head and expression but covered good ground in profile but carrying too much condition on the day. OB 7(2) 1. Pop’s Quantas-Napoca Wild Bean. I preferred the head and expression of 1 together with the overall angulation particularly the turn of stifle, well angulated, good bone, correct top-line, nice croup and tail set, moved to advantage, BCC & BIS. 2. Blevins’ Ch/Ir/Int Ch. Blevwil Ivana Twinkle. Another nice bitch but her movement was somewhat restricted in front rather than displaying the reach and drive I would prefer, however correct bone, clean head and sound throughout, well handled and presented. 3. Hards’ Ch/Nld Ch. Mellow Molly v Grunsven at Braemoray (imp NLD). Breeders Bitch 3(1) Difficult comparing a 3 year old with a puppy but 2nd place has qualities yet to come through. 1. Pearson’s Armardio Wind of Change JW. Feminine head and expression, strong top-line, good bone and nice feet. 2. Jones’ Clanwillow All That Jazz. Puppy with an excellent profile on the stand but on the out and back she was somewhat ‘all over the place’. SIMON LUXMOORE
