Judges Critique - Mrs Shane Flint

Overview

I would like to thank the BCA for my appointment which I thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely show ground and super

weather. Also much thanks to Helen and Alan Hards, my stewards for the day, for all their hard work and

experience in keeping everything flowing and for keeping me organised. It is so much easier when you have

professional stewards. Principally, I would just like to thank all my exhibitors for giving me a super entry and

for presenting and performing so well in such hot conditions.

Super quality to go over and strength in depth in most classes. The larger bitch classes in particular had

quality exhibits that could easily change places on another day. In particular I was looking for firm hard

condition, excellent fore chest and real reach and drive on the move and I wasn’t disappointed.

Dogs

MPD/B (3, Abs 0)

3 quality puppies out of the same litter that could easily change places as they develop.

1st Osbourne’s Potterdale Prime Edition, 7 month dark slate boy, full of character and lovely to see him free

stood which showed off his attributes. Masculine head and still developing, dark eye with a mischievous

Beardie expression, he was just full of it today. Excellent fore chest with excellent reach of neck into well

placed shoulders with correct upper arm, Excellent ribbing - shape, depth and length, nicely rounded croup,

balanced front and back with neat strong hocks which all made up a lovely profile. Powerful mover and head

strong but moved with reach and drive when settled. Will keep my eye on him. Happy to award him BP. 2nd

Baker and Van Der Hoef’s Potterdale Prime Example At Malandex, litter sister to my winner, 7 month old

pretty slate bitch, not with the outgoing exuberance of her brother but a quality, very feminine dark slate girl.

Excellent head of correct shape and proportions, darkest of eye, with a beautiful melting expression.

Excellent construction front and rear. Particularly liked her shape of croup and lovely low tail set, good turn of

stifle and low firm hocks. Moved with easy balanced gait. Just felt she was a bit within herself today and

didn’t show the presence and drive of her litter brother. 3rd Lewis’s Potterdale Prime Rose.

JD (3, Abs 0)

1st Collins’ Full Of The Dickens Winner Takes It All For Kingswud (Imp Deu), 15 month slate boy of quality.

Beautiful in profile with excellent overall proportions and shape and totally balanced. Took my eye as soon as

he was set up, so much to like about this boy and hands on didn’t disappoint. Masculine broad head of

correct proportions excellent eye and pigmentation throughout. Long neck well set into shoulders, excellent

prominent fore chest, Excellent ribbing to elbow and long back coming from rib. Short strong loin with nicely

rounded croup excellent turn of stifle with strong powerful hocks. In firm hard condition throughout with well

muscled 1st and 2nd thighs. No surprise when he moved with real reach and drive but with a lightness of

foot which made everything look so effortless. Maintained his performance later in the challenge and I gave

him serious consideration, pleased to award him RBD. 2nd Reynolds’ Beabeardies Blue Velvet, 13 month

blue boy, good overall construction and balance, head still maturing, had good eye and pigmentation which

toned in with coat. Long neck with slight arch and well set into shoulders but would have liked a bit more fore

chest. Firm level top line with correct sloping croup, good turn of stifle but slightly high on hocks. moved with

reach and drive which was pleasing but didn’t compete with the light effortless movement of 1st place. 3rd

Christopherson’s Beardora Roly Poly.

YD (4, Abs 0)

1st Collins’ Full Of The Dickens Winner Takes It All For Kingswud (Imp Deu) (see previous). 2nd Bowden’s

good length neck, slightly arched going into well laid shoulders. Prominent fore chest, excellent ribbing

(depth and length) short firm loin, excellent return of stifle with strong hocks and well muscled throughout.

Balanced easy movement but rear had tendency to fall away on the move and he lost his top line. I did like

this boy a lot and he has real potential and with a bit more maturity he will have his day. 3rd Masiule’s Ir Ch.
