Working & Pastoral Breeds Association Of Wales

Breed: Dobermann

I would like to say a huge thanks to the exhibitors who allowed me the honour of judging their dogs. I was extremely pleased with the quality and condition of the exhibits leading to some very tough decisions. Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge and the Welsh Dobermann Club for nominating me. Thanks also must go to my excellent stewards who kept things moving along. All dogs were in excellent condition with full dentition and all males had two testicals.

Post Graduate Dog (2 entries)

1st Bodfield’s Grafmax Aladdin Sane – Lively 19 month bl/rust male who kept his handler on her toes. A boy who could so easily be overlooked but on first look he impressed me enough to give him time to settle. I was immediately struck by his sharp outline and standard size. Masculine all through. His well balanced body has strength, substance and elegance. I am sure this boy could work all day. On closer inspection I was pleased to see he has a good head, balanced in length with strong underjaw, a dark almond shaped eye and high set ears. He certainly had a spark of mischief in his eye that day which was nice to see in a young dog. He has a nice arch to his neck which was strong and had enough length. This flowed in to well set shoulders running down into strong straight legs and tight cat like feet. He has a pleasing spring of rib and his chest has dropped to his elbows. He has a firm topline and good tail set. Enough angulation on his rear which led to straight hocks and tight feet. On the move he was powerful when settled, driving well with his rear and reaching in front but the handler needs to watch her speed as his topline can roach a little in the moments when she’s holding him back (I understand an injury was hampering her). That said the handler showed him extremely well given his powerful and lively nature. A handsome boy who I shall watch with interest, he pushed hard for Best of Breed today but was just outdone by the bitch. Best Dog, Reserve Best of Breed.

2nd Parker and Henderson’s Tuwos Notorious (IKC)

A standard size bl/rust male of nearly 2. Strong all through, extremely masculine with a lovely head. Plenty of bone and strength all through. Strong topline and enough tuck. Balanced angulation front to back with a nice sweep to his stifle. He is a good honest dog who I have watched and liked before but sadly his movement let him down today.

Open Dog (6 entries, 2 abs)

1st Robertson’s Cockneyoka Dire Straits

This smart 4.5yr old bl/rust male is a dog I have judged and admired before. A standard size dog who carries a square and balanced frame. His head lengths are equal and planes are good. He has the darkest of eyes of almond shape and a decent underjaw. Nice high earset. His neck arches pleasingly and is strong and carrying enough length. Good front angulation with decent forechest leading to strong straight front legs. He has enough spring of rib and his chest is down to his elbows. His topline is strong and slightly sloping and held on the move. Rear angulation matches the front and leads to straight hocks and tight feet. He moved very well but just was lacking his oomph today and was pipped by the younger male. Reserve Best Dog

2nd Reid’s Dobshangrila Xavi (IKC)

A handsome bl/rust male of 2.5yrs. Standard in size and balanced all through. A good head with the darkest of eye and decent underjaw, small high set ears. Strong neck of good length leading to well angulated shoulders. Strong bone and tight feet all round. Strong level topline leading to a good tail set. Enough angulation on his rear but I would prefer slightly more turn of stifle. A good mover once settled.

Puppy Bitch (3 entries)

1st Webb’s Shalissa’s Into The Shallow

This bl/rust puppy of just 7 months was very together, mature and well schooled. Shown to advantage in a tough class of three lovely puppies of different types. She is square and stylish. I loved the flow of her curves showing a good topline and sweeping underline. Her head planes at this stage are almost level and she has a feminine head with a very dark eye. Her long lean neck leads to well angulated and set shoulders. Ample forechest for a baby and she has strong bone all through. Straight strong legs and tight cat like feet all round. Her topline was level but firm, leading to a good tail set and a well angulated rear with a pleasing turn of stifle. On the move she did not disappoint in any direction. An exciting puppy who I’ll watch with interest. Pleased to award her Best Puppy in Breed

2nd Korifey Matchy Matchy

Another classy bl/rust bitch of 7.5m old. A very different type to 1 but with much to offer. She just needs time to mature on and fill her frame. Good head of pleasing length and balance, I would prefer better head planes. Darkest of eye and good underjaw. Neat high set ears. Clean and lean neck of enough length and reach. Nice angles front and back which balance each other well. Chest needs to fill and drop at this stage. Straight legs and tight feet all round. Strong topline held on the move, carrying a touch of extra length at this stage. Tail is set well on. Moved well for a youngster particularly in side profile. I shall look forward to watching her mature.

Junior Bitch (4 entries, 1abs)

1st Moss’ Amazon Fever

A strong square br/rust bitch of 14 months. Compact and powerful in profile with good bone all through. Strong head of good length and balance, eye is very dark for a brown and her coat is of the darkest brown. Excellent underjaw, small neat well set ears. Strong neck of just enough length leading to a well angulated front assembly. Strong topline and excellent rear angles with a lovely turn of stifle. Very animated on the move and the handler struggled to get her in to her stride today but I saw enough good movement to give her the class.

2nd Nicol’s Supeta’s Black Rose at Evnjays

This bl/rust bitch of 17 months is a very different type to one. Lots to appreciate but she will take her time to fill her frame and come in to her full potential. On the stack she presents an ultra feminine, elegant outline. Her flowing lines are pleasing on the eye. Her topline boasts a strong and gentle slope and she has a lovely sweep to her underline. She has a good head with nice balance and almost level planes. A lovely dark eye and enough underjaw, neat high set ears complete the picture. She has a good length of neck and good angulation front and back with a nice turn of stifle. Once settled a smooth mover with enough reach and drive. For me she just needs time and I will watch her mature with interest.

Post Graduate Bitch (5 entries, 1abs, 1moved to OB)

1st Pollard’s Shalissa’s Hot Toddy at Whizzbean JW

This 2yr old bitch is one who I have judged and admired before. Today she really came in to her own. I am pleased to see that she has matured beautifully and still has that spark I enjoy so much. Today the handler showed her to her advantage and she pushed hard to beat the handsome dog to Best of Breed. I love her mischievous nature and spark, I know she could work all day and still ask “What’s next?”. On the stack she filled my eye today, once she was in place and settled I could appreciate her flowing lines combining strength, power and elegance perfectly. Her excellent and balanced angulation gives her the reach and drive on the move. Today she really showcased that, moving with true rotary rear action, she could just benefit from some faster legs on her handler. She has a lovely spring of rib and her elbows lie close to the brisket. Carrying plenty of bone, she stands on straight legs with the tightest cat like feet. Her strong sloping topline leads to a good croup and tail set with her sweeping underline completing the picture. Today was her day. Congratulations! Best Bitch and Best of Breed.

2nd Caldicott’s Aritaur Cirilla With Philmont JW

This 2yr old bl/rust bitch made this decision hard because I really appreciated her. On another day these two bitches could swap places. She has so much that hits the breed standard coupled with a lovely sharp flowing outline. For me her head was the best of the class. A dark eye, good underjaw and neat high set ears. Feminine but strong. Her neck carries good length and leads to well angulated front and laid back shoulder. Good forechest and depth to her brisket. Strong straight front legs leading to tight cat like feet. Firm sloping topline with a good underline and tuck. Nicely balanced rear finishes the picture and she showcases herself well on the move, showing reach and drive and moving true and straight towards and away. Reserve Best Bitch

Open Bitch (5 entries, 2abs)

1st Pardoe’s Aritaur Daring at Dobiedar JW

This 20month, old school, solid bl/rust bitch took this class away on her movement, today she flowed round the ring. She has a smart outline on the stack however the handler needs to watch as sometimes she stacks her a little long and it spoils her frame. She has the darkest of tans. She has a feminine head, carrying good length and good planes. A lovely dark eye and neat high set ears. A long reachy neck leads to a well angulated front with a good lay of shoulder and plenty of forechest. Strong straight front legs and tight cat like feet all round. Strong topline and good spring of rib with chest down to elbows. Correct tailset and rear angles are in balance with the front. Lovely turn of stifle and straight well let down hocks. She moved with power round the ring taking this tough class. She made it a very tough decision when it came to awarding the Reserve Best Bitch.

2nd Evan’s Ch Amazon Just Let Me Adore You JW

This stylish 3 and a half yr old bl/rust bitch is pleasing on the stack. She is balanced and square with a strong gently sloping topline. She has well boned legs and tight feet all round. A good head of correct length and balance. A dark eye and strong underjaw. A strong, broad neck but I would prefer a shade more length. Well angulated front with a good lay of shoulder. Strong topline leading to good tail set and a balanced rear with good sweep of stifle. A really lovely bitch who pushed 1st hard but just was out moved today.
