Ladies Kennel Association

Breed: Jack Russell Terrier

My many thanks to the Ladies Kennel Association for inviting me to judge Jack Russell Terriers again for them. I would also like to thank my very capable stewards that kept the ring well organised; and on time; having started over an hour later than scheduled. (I did manage to get some lunch!) And many thanks to all the exhibitors who entered; I had a fabulous entry of 52! It was lovely to see some exhibits that haven’t been to shows for a while.

Minor Puppy Dog ( 4 entries, 0 abs)

1st Turner & MacDonald’s Locheil Bad Habits

A six-month-old puppy who has a well-balanced head with dark eyes and good pigmentation. His ears are really neat on a level skull, which I found very attractive. He stands with a good outline, level in top-line and a perfectly high set tail. This young puppy has well-muscled stifles and neat feet but needs to gain a little more maturity to compete for Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Witmond’s Urananus Essence Of The Sun At Tiltser

A hard decision between first and second. This male was excellently well turned out in coat and has a balanced body with more maturity. He has a well sprung rib which was spannable and correct well-matched angulation fore and aft. He is well-laid in shoulder and carries his tail well. Moved very well with good drive.

Puppy Dog (4 entries, 3 abs)

1st Bloomfield’s Blazingjacks Wonderland

Although he was the only one in this class, this boy showed and moved very well; using all of the ring. He particularly attracted me to his good stride and carrying his very well set-tail erect. A balanced dog, with a well-muscled level top-line.

Junior Dog (4 entries, 1 abs)

1st Thornley & Smith’s Tiltser Take it To The Limit.

This youngster is just over a year old with dark eyes and good pigmentation. He has a well matured body and is well boned with straight front legs and the neatest of feet. His fore and aft angulation is well balanced with moderate stifles and well let down hocks. He was very sound when moving.

2nd Richardson & Wood’s Laserna’s Imagine Dragons In Cooperland.

An 11-month-old male who is quite mature. He has a balanced pleasing head and a well sprung rib. He is spannable with a good pelt; and short-coupled. He has well boned forelegs, neat feet and good stifles. When going over him, I found him to be very well made but he needs better grooming and handled with more experience in order to compete against another well-groomed competitor. Nevertheless, I awarded him Best Puppy Dog, for his good confirmation and balanced body with maturity.

Post Graduate Dog (3 entries, 1 abs)

1st McCluskey’s & Young’s Tiltser’s Voulez Vous Avec Chadbrook

This male has a good neat head with a flat and moderate skull. He has exceptional forequarters with a good length of neck into well-laid shoulders and a lovely return of upper arm. His forelegs are set correctly which gave him good reach on the move and he carried both his attitude and tail with attraction.

2nd MacDonald & MacKay’s All Jacks Clandestino (Imp Ita)

This Jack is also very attractive in profile. He is very well presented with a well-groomed coat. He has straight forelegs, good spannable body and a level top-line with very well-bent stifles and carries his tail well. Two quality dogs in first and second position today; but my first-place winner won this class on his rear movement.

Limit Dog (5 entries, 1 abs)

1st McCluskey & Young’s Chadbrook Arran JW

A male with a very clean and balanced outline. He has a head of correct proportions with dark almond shaped eyes, good pigmentation and neat ears. He has a good reach of neck and well-laid shoulders with a good return of upper arm. He is well boned with straight forelegs and was presented in a quality waterproof coat. He has well-muscled hindquarters and moves out well with a good stride. A very attractive male and I was pleased to award him Reserve Best Dog.

2nd Donnelly’s Calavey’s Abu

This male has a pleasing head, with a level skull and neat ears with their tips in line with his dark almond eyes. He was presented with good pigmentation and was turned out in a well-groomed coat. A spannable dog that moved out quite well.

Open Dog (2 entries, 0 abs)

1st Irving’s Twinan High Regard

This male is very typical of the breed. He stands with an impressive outline exhibiting good angulation fore and aft and good body proportions. He has a level top-line, a well fitted tail and moderate stifles with well-let down hocks and straight back pasterns with the neatest of feet. Given all of this sound structure it ensures his movement will be correct and efficient; which it was! Therefore, I was very pleased to award him Best Dog.

2nd Witmond & Fonzo’s All Jacks Urano

A male with a good length of neck, well-laid shoulders and a fabulous return of upper arm of sufficient length, as per the breed standard. He has correct angulation fore and aft, and as a good bend of stifle. His outline is impressive and his movement is very efficient covering the ring with reach and drive. He was well presented and handled to advantage; and I considered him very closely for Reserve Best Dog but his coat was not quite as dense my Reserve Dog winner.

Veteran Dog (1 entry, 0 abs)

1st Thornley & Smith’s Locheil Stop Right There VW

I remember awarding this exhibit Best Puppy some several years ago; and today, as then, he moved around the ring with absolute efficiency, due to his balanced proportions in body with a straight front and well-bent stifles. Today, although a veteran, he was more muscled than most exhibits. Pleased to award him Best Veteran.

Good Citizens Dog (2 entries, 0 abs)

1st Kay’s Blazingjacks Best Mate With Jackopeaks

It is impressive that dogs are qualified to be a Good Citizen and this also aids their ability to be shown so they stand, move and present themselves very well. This four-year-old male a flat skull, neat correctly set ears, good pigmentation and a lovely almond dark eye. Stacked he has a straight front, a spannable body with well sprung ribs, well let down hocks and excellent stifles; however, I would prefer a little more length of leg.

2nd Bloomfield’s Blazingjacks Wonderland

See Puppy Dog above.

Special Beginners Dog (2 entries, 1 abs)

1st Bloomfield’s Truck Turner

This dog has nearly all the qualities he needs to be a regular winner but needs better presentation. He has a good head, neat ears but was hidden in a lot of facial fur. He has sound confirmation fore and aft, a spannable body, a lovely loose pelt and level top-line. Lovely straight tail that was carried well on the move but his handler needs to present him in a more groomed condition and stacked still. He could have a promising future.
