Thank you to the society for their kind invitation, which was an honour for me as I did my first set of CC’s in Gordons for first time in 1999 at this show and today 26 years later at the same show I am back where it all started.

Thank you to exhibitors for there super entry, and their kind acceptance of there placing. I have been involved in the breed for more than 40 years now and still passionate when I first came into the breed and today, I have come away very disheartened in state of the breed. We have always maintained our heads in breed throughout the decades but sadly today I was very disappointed that this seems not to be the case. Too many lack width of the back skull and some had no strength and too short in muzzle, some were too narrow, I also came across some missing pre-molars this needs to be addressed without delay. Also, several exhibitors where overweight too.

 I am not sure where do I start with the movement, as I speak, I find this to be a major concern. Too many are exaggerated on move which means, they are overreaching and kicking out far too high from behind and leaving coat on the hocks does not hind this factor, some had weak hocks which meant they were not able to drive from behind, somewhere lacking in upper arm which means they are not able to reach. I urge our breeders please, please pay attention before it’s too late to put things right. Let’s not loose breed type which we have always maintain throughout.

This boy is not flashy and should not be over look for his breed virtues which he has bundles off, he his slow mature adult male should be, reminds be dogs from the 80s and 90s, he excels in profile & shape, masculine head with good width & depth to skull, dark eyes, low set ears, defined stop, clearly define lips, nose large with open nostrils, powerful reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders, forelegs straight, excellent flat bone, strong pasterns tight feet, lovely forechest, deep brisket, ribs well-sprung giving him plenty heart and lung room, moderate bend of stifle, well-muscled with second thigh muscle, moved with real reach & drive, delighted to award his first CC and BOS, he is a dog very much worthy of getting his title, I hope the other two CC’s not far behind.
