I’d like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge our breed. A thank you also has to go out to the two stewards for helping to keep things on track through the day. Along with my day it was good to see mentoring and an observation taking place within the breed. Presentation and handing of the dogs was good through the day even when we had a bit of random music come through the exhibitors and exhibits weren’t phased. We judge to our breed standard, on the day my main winners all, stood with paws under their joints, head above their topline. Heads were clean with type, good pigment, correct bites, and no breathing sound. Movement was parallel, with minimal lift and short stepping.
We regularly show on different surfaces, some dogs benefit from grass others indoors. Please take a little time to walk a ring or to move over the different coloured lines. A number of exhibits avoided certain lines on the floor changing the picture of their movement. This wasn’t poor movement or an issue, it was just the colour of the line when observing the whole opposed to one step. Exhibits eyes were good through the breed, movement was sound on all dogs judged, breathing was silent and coats were in great condition. We have a lot of positives in our breed, however I would like anyone breeding puppies to think about keeping good quality with quality pigment, it is a unique quality of our breed which I wouldn’t want to slip any further, please work now to preserve this.
Baby Puppy Dog 1 (1)
Minor Puppy Dog 4 (1)
1st Clarkes Mr Beau Bond, 8 month old red dog, well balanced, of a good size, substance with good condition and a rich coat. He was attentive throughout and stood with a good silhouette, paws where they should be a good topline a little tuck up. He is a pleasing type, ears are exactly as I want them, clean eyes of a good shape and good pigmentation. He looks with purpose and you feel seen when he glances at you with his good Chow expression. Angulation is as I would like on the whole, a good length and shape of rib and good coupling. He was the best mover in the class. Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Hallidays Bonjinghai Ace of Spades With Kyleash, 8 month old black dog slightly smaller than 1st, equally well balanced again standing with ease. His condition and coat are what I like; he is active and well attentive. A Good expression through a well placed clean eye and good muzzle length. Good angulation throughout, well bodied with sufficient bone. On the day I preferred his movement going away and in profile to coming.
Puppy Dog 2
1st Bowerman Bojinghai Ace High, 8 month old red dog, of good size and substance including excellent bone. Standing with paws where they should be, a well arched neck carried his head correctly. His scowling expression was evident, muzzle length and shape is as I would like for his size. He is active and covered the ground with ease maintaining his topline.
2nd Sukkhabhais Charids King Of Diamonds, 9 month old red dog, of good size, substance and well balanced. Silhouet is characteristic, his pleasing head has a well shaped clean eye, and neat well used ears. Good angulation leading to well used rear movement. This is one boy who may have benefitted from getting used to the ring before the start of judging as some of the lines threw him on occasion.
Junior Dog 4 (1)
1st Absaloms Tanlap Takko At Wengeordy, 15 month old black dog, very well balanced with good head carriage, paws where I want them to be in good coat and condition. A pleasing head, neat and tidy ears, a good top skull, sufficient stop, eye shape and positioning creating a desirable expression, some of the best pigment of the day. His head is as I would like on a boy of this age. His head carried well while standing and on the move, good shoulder placement and well ribbed, correct top line and four paws where they should be. He had a bit more tuck up than I would like, a good tail set and one of the better rear movers on the day with great hocks.
2nd Wrights Shulian Sovereign Star, just over 1 year old red dog, another well balanced boy with a good reach of neck and good head carriage. Good ears, topskull, and a good muzzle. He is well bodied with good angulation. Moved well with purpose. He is longer than 1st and was unlucky to be against one of the better rear movers on the day.
Novice Dog 2 (1)
Post Graduate Dog 5 (3)
1st Godbers Lechan Sandman, a fawn dog who’s not quite 2, of good size, well balanced with good bone, although for size a touch more would be beneficial. Standing well with paws under him due to good angulation, a correct topline, tailset and a well arched neck. A clean head with good ears, clean and keen eyes. His body assisted to use this angulation in generating good movement.
2nd Southgates Santicana Black Ice, a black dog who’s not yet 3, of good size and substance. When standing in silhouette his topline goes into good head carriage, he has more type than 1st, is still clean and everything is in proportion. I preferred angulation of 1st which led to standing paw placement.
Limit Dog 6 (1)
1st Oliverias Jodoka The Fool, red dog 2 years of age. This boy had great size and substance. His arched neck carries his head well while on the move and when standing. He reaches at times which extends his rear paws to compensate, this was at times. I liked his head, eyes as I would like eyes, ears are neat with good space between them generating sufficient width without too much. This width is continued through the muzzle and in the opposite direction down the chest when putting hands on him. Good front angulation, proportions of rib and good coupling. He moved well on the day maintaining width while on the move.
2nd Clarke Catomo Unconditional Love, black dog 3 years of age. This class could have gone either way as both dogs have great qualities it will be dependent on the day and finer details. Today he was second. He is of good size and substance along with a great silhouette with all four paws where I want them a good tailset and well arched neck. Head proportions are as I would like, a really good eye and a topsull which adds to the whole. He moved well especially in profile.
Special Limit AOC Dog 1
1st Godbers Lechan Sandman
Open Dog 8 (2)
1st Fishers Shulian San Angelo Star At Poppykins JW, red dog nearly 4 years of age. He is balanced with good size and substance, stands with 4 paws under him as four pillars, and a head carried well with a good supportive neck. His head proportions are what I like, a good expression with good eyes and ears that have correct shape, a muzzle that maintains width. Angulation is as I would like sufficient width and good body, a level topline and a good tail set. Moved best in class in all aspects, maintaining width, coming, going and in profile. Reserve Dog CC
2nd Curtis’ Xingbao Golden Alchemy, red dog being 3 years old of good substance and size. A good head with a good expression, good pigmentation, a good clean eye and a top skull that works well with ears. A good neck, leading through good front angulation and a well bodied frame with sufficient width and shape of rib. Slightly longer than 1st and standing longer than 1st.
Veteran Dog 1
1st Soole and Carrolls Raphy X Y and Red, a 9 year old red dog of good size and substance. Generally speaking chows can lose a little pigment with age, if this boy has lost pigment, his mouth must have been a back hole at one point, superb pigment and probably the best on the day. Pigment is one of our key characteristics and should be like this boys. Along with this excellent pigment, he has a good expression, with ears that are neat and tidy, a slightly round eye, his expression is as I would like. A correct length of muzzle. A level back, moved with purpose for age, I would like a bit more neck to complete his profile, all four paws were as I would like them. Best Veteran in show
Smooth Dog 2
1st Campbells Ir/Int Ch Kuanyin Rogue Warrior, back smooth dog nearly 4 years old of good size, substance and well balanced. This boy conformed most to the standard, if he had a rough coat I think more would look at him in challenges, it’s a shame that I think that as he is a good example of the breed especially when we judge with our hands along with our eyes. His paws are under him, his head above a level strong topline. Short coupling created his short back which seems more difficult on a larger dog generating a square profile. In great coat, condition, ample substance and correct width. His angulation is what I expected after observing his movement, a well constructed front and a strong rear with good hocks. His head has good ratios, ears are where I want them with width and slightly forward, a good clean eye and there is still a scowl, pigment is dark as we need. Along with standing on his toes his movement was one of the best on the day, his rear had one of the best pendulum motions with little to no lift and parallel was the order of the day. His front could be slightly tighter in pastern if I had to change one thing, this wasn’t an issue but to complete him a tighter pastern would be good.
2nd Absaloms Wengeordy Paddington Bear, a red smooth boy just out of junior who is well balanced and of good size. This was a good class. I did like this boys type, he had a bit more in head than 1st without anything being over done, ears are great and eyes are what I like, proportions are good and pigmentation is correct. Well bodied, with good rib and angulation allowing his paws to fall where they should be under his body, a correct topline, little tuck up. He’s only 18 months old, he has time on his side and judges should appreciate him.

1 Webbs Charids Queen of Diamonds At Chifido JW, 9 month old red who’s well balanced, stood square with a good reach of neck. A feminine head with good eyes, neat ears, appropriate muzzle length and good pigment. Good angulations throughout, balanced proportions, an appropriate length of back and neat feet. Winning the class on movement and length.
2 Spanias Charids Queen of Hearts, 9 month old red who’s the litter sister of 1st. Again balanced slightly longer than 1st but a more level topline at this stage of development than 1st an equally good reach of neck. A stronger head which I preferred, still easily feminine good eyes, neat ears and good pigment. Good angulation throughout. These are two good bitches and will trade places from show to show.
Junior Bitch 2 (1)
1st Richards Charids Star Bright, 9 month old red who’s the litter sister of 1st and second from puppy bitch. She has good size and proportions and is in great condition. A good reach of neck allowing for head carriage which was maintained while on the move. Well up on toes, correct paw placement and more compact out of the puppy bitches. Good breadth and good angulation with a level topline. A great head construction, a good stop, good top skull, well placed and well used ears with clean attractive eyes, pigment is as I would like it. Being up on toes was maintained while on the move and she was Best Puppy in Show with this movement and overall qualities.
Novice Bitch 1 (1)
Post Graduate Bitch 3 (1)
1st Richards Charids Holly Berry, red nearly 3 years old. Well balanced and well bodied in good condition with paws where they should be. Good head proportions, a pleasing eye, well placed ears. Her good angulation allowed for movement which was one of the better examples for bitches in profile on the day. She is more compact than 2nd creating the outline we are looking for.
2nd Fishers Poppykins Golden Ticket, red 2 year old. A level topline with a good and well maintained reach of neck correct tailset, paws placed under her standing well on toes. A pleasing head with correct top skull, ears and eyes.
Limit Bitch 4 (1)
1 Hughes’ Xingbao Miss Wizbit, red 3 years old, a good silhouette with a level back, good reach of neck allowing for good head carriage. Minimal tuck up, well bodied with good angulation throughout. A neat feminine head, good eye shape, size and placement, a good stop and well placed hooded ears with appropriate topskull. Another good mover in profile standing with paws under her and well up on toes.
2nd Evans’ Sceptune Aryemis Blaze Avec Simcha, red 3 years of age. Balanced components but slightly longer than 1st. Head was broader than 1st in topskull, otherwise good head proportions with good clean eyes and neat ears.
Special Limit AOC Bitch 5 (2)
1st Jakemans Tanlap Tis A Thought, black 4 year old, well balanced with a level topline, minimal tuck up, four paws where they should be and as they should be. A head carried with the correct reach of neck for this girl. In good condition albeit slightly lacking the black shine of the BIS. Once you’ve looked at her initial outline her head is something to enjoy, a correct muzzle length, good top skull and ears which create a pleasing teddy bear outline. Getting closer her eyes are clean, well placed and attentive, good dark pigment through her mouth. Her angulation is correct and breadth of body is what she needed with good coupling. All of these attributes came together best in movement, she was my best bitch mover on the day and one of the best in the show. Parallel movement was evident for all to see when coming and going, in profile again movement was as it should be. If I could add more black to her coat for that initial impression she would have pushed even harder for BIS and RBIS it was close as it was.
2nd Hollies and Carrs Janqbu Dan Ren, black 2 years of age, well balanced, a different type to 1st with equal qualities. A level topline, a great reach of neck, leading to a good head. Proportions are correct, a clean correct eye, neat ears and when the handler asked her to open her mouth it was like a hatch opened and there was good darkness within. Good angulation throughout, correct height proportions well bodied and a good length and shape or rib. Missing out due to the example of movement by 1st being one of my best of the day. RCC.
Open Bitch 4 (2)
1st Allen Clymarian Blue Illusion, blue nearly 4, of good size and well balanced, standing well with paws under the body. A feminine head with a pleasing eye, good pigment followed by a good reach of neck taking you to a level topline, moved well in profile.
2nd Clucas Ch Hiswin Morning Star, just turning 7 years of age red. Balanced body to head with good bone. A level topline with a good neck taking you to one of the better heads for me on a bitch. Muzzle proportions and length as I want, great eyes, neat ears and good pigment. Width is good and length of back is good with a tailset to match. I would like a small amount more depth of body to complete the picture. Unfortunately the door seemed like the more interesting place to be which made movement more difficult to assess, there were no issues with movement, it just slightly stop-start due to the open door and changing directions didn’t assist to distract sufficiently.
Veteran Bitch 3 (1)
1st Hughes’ Ch Xingbao Midnight Magic, 8 year old back, balanced with all components. All four paws under her body occasionally her head was a little too high opposed to forward. A good depth of body albeit slightly longer than 2nd, clean eyes and good ears. She was an active mover who didn’t behave like a veteran, strides were the correct length.
2nd Clucas’ Hiswin Star Dreams JW VW 10 year old red. Another well balanced girl with a good depth of body, correct topline and correct length of back and a good head carriage due to her neck. This was one of my preferred heads of the day, the muzzle is as I want width and length, pigment is appropriate, eyes are clean, her ears complete this picture with their placement, the topskull, angulation and shape. Unfortunately today she was slightly lackluster while on the move, I have awarded her well in the past, there wasn’t anything wrong with her movement but active wouldn’t be the correct depiction.
Smooth Bitch 3
1 Webbs Grozio Akcentas Doja Chifido, black smooth 3 years of age. balanced throughout with correct proportions. Up on toes, standing square, a good depth of body with a level topline supporting a good reach of neck to carry her head throughout. A clean head of good proportions, clean eyes, good ear placement she is a finer bitch in general, she had sufficient width for her frame however I would like slightly more. A brisk mover, moving well in profile and the best mover in the class.
2 Carrs Kingrock Shanghai Bobbie, red smooth 2 years of age. Balanced, well up on toes standing correctly with good depth of body and reach of neck. A heavier head than 1st, clean good eyes, good pigment with neat ears. Well angled providing good movement in profile, a shade longer than 1st in coupling.
