National Terrier 2025-Skye Terriers

I was very pleased with the entry of Skyes and felt that overall the quality was higher than on some of my previous appointments making for some interesting decisions. It was a pity that there were no puppies but in a breed that matures slowly and then can last so well that is understandable. Handling and presentation were to a good standard. It was lovely to see a number of creams with black points. We just need a few more pale silvers now.

Thank you to my very pleasant and efficient stewards Shirley Hockenhull and John Catlow who kept everything running and were hard at it all day as there were breeds following on.

1st: SIMPSON, Mrs Karen Diane Tiny Winne Argon Targaryon (Swed Imp)-18 month old youngster who has a lovely head, coat is starting to change and is coming through quite well, scores on substance and masculinity, moves a bit unsettled and is still quite headstrong. Well done.

1st: CURTIS, Mrs Jane Ch Verumamicus Aurora Of Brakemill JW OS-this glamorous cream glides on, she has a glorious head with correct proportions and fully in proportion with her body, great topline and a good rear. In the breed she was a little sluggish. Came into the veteran group and moved up a gear where I awarded her group 3.

2nd: HEATH, Mrs R Perrylands Hello Again-this was a very pretty bitch with a super outline, has a lovely straight flat coat which was very well presented, she is very feminine, I would like a little more skull but she is top drawer.

1st: 945 BIRGISDóTTIR, Mrs Birgitta Skorradals Badass-12 month boy and his coat was in-between so a bit woolly. A decent sort, good substance, very free on the move and has a really good rear. Head needs to develop a little and topline needs to firm but he is at a difficult age. Will be interesting to see how he matures on.

1st: 969 RYAN, Mrs K F & RYAN, Mr E L Flanagan The Troublemaker At Feorlig (imp Svk)-this drop ear caught my eye, he is glamorous, has a good outline when stacked and holds it on the move, super neck with the correct slight crest, lovely free mover, you really need to get your hands on the head of a drop and his is lovely and correctly proportioned. One to watch. Res CC

2nd: 973 SIMPSON, Mrs Karen Diane Tiny Winne Argon Targaryon (Swed Imp)-

1st: 963 MCLEOD, Mrs & Mrs G Esgia Glen Garioch-this one was a good one to go over, particularly good in neck and shoulders, decent head, was a touch sluggish on the move. Could have coped with some competition.

OD (7 Entries) Abs: 0

All 7 present and this was a lovely class to judge with things to like on all of them.

1st: HEATH, Mrs R Ch Lavaux's Bahamian Chris-one of the 2 who caught my eye when I took a first look and continued to do so. Very much the finished product. Lovely size. Excellent outline standing and moving with the correct strength as well as the length. I really liked his head and ears, earset perfect and lovely fringing, masculine expression, good underjaw, super level topline and moved effortlessly and freely. Beautiful straight dark silver coat. A very worthy CC and BOB winner.

2nd: RYAN, Mrs K F Ch Flanagan Energizer At Feorlig (imp Svk)-impressive boy, clearly a male, when stacked he has a super outline with some ring presence. Good skull and in proportion to his body. Ended up in a battle with his kennel mate for the Res CC. The youngster held his outline slightly better and is a clearer colour.

1st: 961 MCLEAN, Mr Rod & WEIR, Mr James Rhoderns Boreray-cream girl and very raw, lovely outline, another with good neck and clean shoulders, nice free mover. Just needs time.

PGB (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HOLT, Miss Elizabeth Coriend Let's Do Justice-this girl had my attention as soon as she came in the ring. A beautiful type of Skye. Wonderful straight flat cream coat with black points which is so correct. Presents a beautiful outline standing and moving, feminine, lovely headed girl, good topline and a steady mover. Is still quite young but is clearly of champion grading. CC, her first and I am sure that more will follow.

2nd: VOLKOVA, Mrs A Verumamicus Calypso-this girl was close up, she too has a lovely head, super free movement and good overall proportions. Is a bit closer behind than the winner but another that could easily make up I would think.

3rd: ROBERTS, Ms Megan Kilfinan Seren Gail At Sunabil

LB (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 8 MCLEAN, Mr Rod & WEIR, Mr James Rhoderns Heather-another good cream with black points, and another from this kennel with good neck and shoulders which does give her a look of quality, super front assembly, moved out well.

2nd: SHUTTLEWORTH, Ms Janet & WHINCUP, Mr Simon Wondersky Wish You Were Here At Whicheeta (Imp USA)-scored heavily in this class on maturity, good body, decent ribs, good outline, just not as free on the move as the one above.

3rd: CURTIS, Mrs Jane Brakemill Midsummer Dream JW

OB (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: GRAINGER, Miss G Black Cuillins Catriona JW (Imp) Deu-I liked this one when she came into the class and the more I looked the more I liked her, very much the mature finished article, good for substance and bone, excellent head and good ears and fringes, is a lovely steady mover. Res CC and is knocking on the door.

2nd: MCLEAN, Mr Rod & WEIR, Mr James Rhoderns Ananke-quite eyecatching, looked a bit young against some of the others in this class, scored heavily in outline and proportions, another with a good head of good proportions and enough skull to match the body. Promising.

3rd: ROBERTS, Ms Megan Tarskavaig Speed Bonny Boat At Sunabil
