SOUTHERN ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

16th NOVEMBER 2025

ENGLISH SETTER - DOGS

First of all may I thank the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge the Dogs today and the exhibitors who came for my opinion. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout and my co-Judge and I were in complete agreement with our major awards. Movement was difficult to assess in some of the classes - the size of the ring making it difficult to for some to find a stride which reflected in their overall balance on the move.

CLASS 1. MPD (1.) Sayers - Droveborough Blue Moon. 7 months B/B. Very happy baby with a lovely head and expression, low set ears with good length of neck into well placed shoulders and good front angulation. Well ribbed up and excellent rear angulation with a good tail set. Standing on good feet and he moved really well for his first Show.

CLASS 2. PD. (3 1Abs) 1st. Montell - Culverwell Speckled Silver. 10month Dark B/B. Balanced and nicely chiselled head, dark eye, good shape to flew with good wide nostrils. He is well off for bone and has good angulation to both front and rear along with correct tail set giving a lashing tail when on the move. BPD    2. Droveborough Blue Moon – as MPD. Just giving away to (1) on maturity.

Class 3 VET D . (3) 1. Harris - Bridgella’s First Edition with Konakakela JW Sh.CEx.OSW Almost 8 ½ OB who is still showing such excellent movement and this won him his place over his younger half brother. Lovely shaped head with dark eyes, correct foreface and low set ears. Excellent length of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front, good depth to ribs, strong rear quarters with a well set slashing tail. BVIS   2nd. Wilson – Ravensett Giovanni. A year younger than 1 and again all the above applies. He is slightly shorter coupled and carrying good coat. However, I felt he really needed more ring which affected his balance on the move as he didn’t stride out quite as well as 1.     3rd Johnston – Wansleydale Beguiled of Loonbrae 7 yrs. Looking good and moving out well. Such a lovely class!

CLASS 4. JD (2) 1. Wilson – Sharnyx Reyn Cloud at Lucanix . B/B just over 12 months. He has a masculine head but not overdone, with well shaped eyes under his raised eyebrows giving him a pleasing expression. Maturing nicely, he has good straight bone and front angulation with depth to ribs and strong hind quarters. Moved with a lovely slashing tail.    2. Griffiths – Tawnymeade Moonshine 14 months O/B Gentle expression with lovely dark eyes, low set ears and good length of neck. Level topline and in good coat.

CLASS 5. YD (4) 1st. Pearson – Bournehouse Augustus at Yessandi JW 18 months Light Tri. Masculine but kind expression with well shaped dark eyes and good shape to his flews. He has a good length of neck and well laid shoulders with well sprung ribs and a good level topline. Strong bone, quarters with good turn of stifle. 2nd. Stead – Ravensett Illusionist of Settavista 19th months. A good sized boy with pleasing head of correct balance, dark eye, low set ears, good length of neck and well placed shoulder. He’s deep in brisket and has a level topline, correct tail set, good tight feet and moved well.

CLASS 6. ND (1) 1st. Griffiths - Tawnymeade Moonshine (as Jnr dog)

CLASS 7. GD (4. 1Abs) 1st. Derry, Schoneville & Williamson - Hawklawn Hazzard County at Balvenie JW 2yr old Tri. He has a masculine head but still carrying a soft expression, correct dark eye, good stop and low set ears. Straight front, well placed shoulders, front and rear angulation and standing on good feet. Moved well with a good tail action and when stacked presented a very balanced picture. RCC.     2nd. Hendry - Ilexeset Sunny Disposition 3yr old Tri. Good head and eye, pleasing expression, low set ears. Straight front and good depth to ribs. Not the angulation of the winner and a little proud of his tail on the move.              3rd. Whittington – Culverwell Magic Touch

CLASS 8. PGD (5. 1Abs) 1st. Ciaputa – Ravensett Cote D’Azur. Well presented 2yr O/B with a balanced head, good stop and dark well shaped eyes giving him a lovely soft expression. Low set ears, neck flowing into good shoulders, deep in rib and a level topline. Correct tailset. Good bone and feet. Moved well with good tail action.     2nd. Stewart & Quenby – Tattersett Stolen Silver. B/B. Classic chiselled head with dark eye and low set ears. He has good bone, straight front and well ribbed. Good length of neck with a level topline although a tad long. Good angulation front and rear with correct tight feet. A little proud of his tail on the move.  3rd. Fisher & Withey – Severnsett Black Prince

CLASS 9. LD. (5.) Williams – Richecca Midwinter. 4yr Tri with a beautiful head. Correct balance with good stop, dark, kind eyes. Foreface with good shape to flews. Low set ears and good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Straight front and well angulated front and rear. He is well ribbed up, short coupled with a level topline and correct tail set. He stood on good feet, shown in good coat and I was pleased to award him DCC. and subsequently RBIS. BOS.   2nd. Williams – Bournehouse Gamekeeper. Classic O/B, good balanced head and expression, dark eye and low set ears. Strong neck leading to good shoulders. Straight front, deep in ribs and level topline. Correct angulation with good width to stifle and standing on good feet. I felt he would have benefited from a larger ring on the move.     3rd. King – Sirius Blue Heaven at Grantastar

CLASS 10. OD. (3. 2Abs) Tucker – Mariglen Nightwish for Walshaw. 5yr B/B Masculine head, good stop and eye. He has good strong bone, a balanced outline with level topline, correct tail set and good feet. Moved well.
