Breed: Whippet

PAIGNTON CH SHOW.      WHIPPETS.      3rd August, 2025.

I always look forward to judging Whippets and they will always have a place in my heart. It is now just over 30 years since we purchased our first show dog, the beautiful Courthill Casting Shadows, from Roger Stock. We were very fortunate to have Roger, Patsy Gilmour, Berys Brown and the 'Nevedith' family as our ‘mentors’ all those years ago and I hope they would appreciate my choices for class winners and the principle awards.

Thank you to the Officers & Committee Members for giving me this opportunity and for your company over the weekend. I would to thank everyone for making the journey to Devon with your whippets. I really appreciated the depth of quality; it really was one of my ‘all-time’ most enjoyable judging appointments. The experience was further enhanced by having John and Bev as my very efficient stewards. They were worth their weight in gold allowing me to concentrate completely on the job in hand and ensuring we finished in perfect time. I have quoted the number of individual dogs I judged on the day i.e.95, as opposed to the number of dogs entered or the total entries in all classes.

SBD/B (12, 2) 1st Durante’s Galemira's Pandora Of Duranridge. A very pretty orange brindle with white trim and a picture of health. Very elegant and balanced. Beautiful head with dark eyes and an alert yet gentle expression. Loved the flow of her top line from the slight arch to her neck to well laid shoulders and a super top line with slight rise over her loin and a low set tail. Parallel away and back and showing good reach in front in side gait. Best Special Beginner and Spec Beg Group 4. 2nd Nicholas’ Crosscop Save It For Me. Dark cream fawn with white trim. Pretty head and gentle expression. Elegant neck. Impressed in side gait with real drive from her well let down hocks and her good bend of stifle. Liked the freedom of movement with accurate footfall in profile. Moved parallel away and back. Lost her top line slightly on the move. Just a little down on her pasterns. 3rd Foxwell’s Barnesmore The Lion King Of Redfoxia

MPD (6,0) 1st Perkin’s Zetor Silkridge Figgy Pudding With Zeglynn. An exciting prospect at just 7 months with everything in the right place. Orange brindle with white collar and trim. Liked his size and presents a very balanced, typical outline stood and on the move. Super pigmentation added to appeal of his beautiful head. Moved soundly away and back and had the most accurate footfall in side gait. Assured of a bright future. Best Puppy Dog. 2nd Foxwell’s Cobyco Capture The Look At Redfoxia. Pale fawn brindle with white trim. Another quality baby puppy. Attractive head with neat ears. Slightly paler eyes. Has a typical topline stood with level back and slight rise over the loin. Well laid shoulder blades with fore chest well developed for this age. Moved out and towards soundly. Just preferred the top line of the winner on the move. Another with a bright future I am sure. 3rd Rees & Jones Kierpark Devil In Disguise

PD (4,0) 1st Nicholas’ Corneire Learning To Fly. A well grown golden fawn with white trim. Attractive head with kind expression. Elegant neck. Won here by virtue of being the soundest in all directions. Very parallel away and back and drives from his really low hocks and well developed second thigh. Very accurate and balanced footfall in side gait. Carrying a little too much weight so lacked a little definition in loin and overall elegance. Would prefer a little less rise over the loin. 2nd Price’s Kierpark It's Now Or Never Among Silkdance. 4th in the Minor Puppy class. He is a bigger, pale cream brindle boy and looks mature for 7 months. In great condition with the shortest dense ‘seal’ coat and super muscle tone. A masculine head with strong teeth, scissor bite and strong underjaw. Well laid shoulders and well angulated upper arm allowing reach in front. Drives from low hocks. Moves soundly. Just a little longer in loin than ideal. 3rd Spring’s Treviskey Trojan Warrior

JD (11,2) 1st Wayman’s Tervanty Dream Of Dragons At Scarletfair. Litter brother to the Bitch CC winner; what a fabulous litter. Stood out here and certainly in my thoughts for green cards as I think he is more than CC worthy. Blue cream brindle dog with white trim of an ideal size and makes a very typical silhouette; for perfection I would like another half an inch in his loin. Deep in brisket and long rib cage and fore chest well developed for his age. Very attractive head and expression. Impressive on the move with effortless freedom of movement reaching well forward in front with driving form his low hocks. 2nd Sharp’s Saintharp Can't Get Enough. An eye catching young blue brindle and white parti-colour. Very appealing head and expression. Elegant neck with slight arch. Nive and deep in chest. A fraction longer in loin than the winner. Sound away and back. Matching angulation fore and aft so looks very balanced in profile. Holds his top line well stood and on the move. Just not quite as good footfall as the winner in side gait. 3rd Price’s Kierpark It's Now Or Never Among Silkdance

YD (5,0) 1st Wheeler’s Ch First Class Soulad By Ranveli (Cze Imp). The star of the day. He meets the standard so well in silhouette and has the added benefit of the most attractive orange brindle coat colour, bright white trim and brilliant pigmentation. His head is a joy, long and lean; those dark oval eyes were full of kindness but showed the desired alert expression. He has a beautiful outline flowing from the crest of his long, elegant neck across the withers to the slight rise over the loin falling over the croup to a low set tail. You can see from the angulation of his forequarters, the angle of his pelvis and his bend of stifle he is going to impress on the move. He moves with such an effortless rhythmic side gait showing excellent reach in front and drive from his hind quarters. Parallel going away and coming back towards. In fabulous condition with tight feet, short nails, a gleaming seal skin coat and natural muscle tone throughout. Pleased to learn later he was sired by my Dog CC winner the last time I judged. Father or Son ….that is the question ? Dog CC & BOB. 2nd Foxwell’s Barnesmore The Lion King Of Redfoxia. 3rd in Special Beginners. Silver blue brindle with white trim. Appealed for his typical silhouette stood with a straight front and well angulated forequarters. Good bend of stifle and low hocks allowed him to move with freedom with reach and drive; accurate footfall. Enjoys his food a bit too much so lack definition in his loin. 3rd Sharp’s Saintharp Can't Get Enough

PGD (8,1) 1st Salked & Graham’s Dalerafenn River Of Dreams. Won this class having the most typical overall outline stood and his perfect top line. This fawn with white trim has long narrow head and an alert expression. He is an ideal size and has a level back with slight rise over the loin. Tail carried nice and low on the move. He moved out and back parallel. Just needs better lay of shoulder and upper arm to allow greater reach in front. 2nd Wayman’s Ranveli Beach Boy At Scarletfair. A larger, cream brindle with white trim. Super long lean handsome head with the darkest eyes and fabulous pigmentation. Long muscular neck. Deep brisket. Well sprung rib cage. Showed strength in his loin but needs another inch to balance and not as defined due to too much breakfast !! Moved soundly away and back but a little high on hock so not driving enough and lacking reach in front. 3rd PERKINS, Miss G Zetor Silkridge Rapture With Zeglynn

LD (11,2) 1st Jones’Jothryn Johnny Be Good JW. Pale blue cream brindle with white trim who really stood out here. Super size and typical overall shape; presents a really balanced picture stood and on the move. I know they don’t run with their head but he really is a handsome dog. Long lean head with strength to underjaw. Fabulous dark oval eye with such an alert expression. The neatest ears. His neck is elegant with slight arch leading to very well laid shoulders. Very slight arch to his strong well-rounded loin. The angulation of his front and hind quarters match perfectly resulting in balanced and accurate side gait with low reach in front and drive from his low hocks. His Champion title must be close. RDCC. 2nd Richards’ Richclass From Here On Out. A pale cream with white trim with the most attractive head and alert expression with the darkest eyes and cleopatra eye liner. Small, neat, rose ears. Long elegant neck and well laid shoulders. Holds a typical top line stood but just flattens a little on the move. Very accurate footfall in side gait with reach in front and drive behind – covers plenty of ground with ease. Just comes towards a fraction wider than ideal but had to reward the freedom of movement and overall balance. 3rd Searle & Rawlinson’s Reffton Tibalt At Whipsearle Cw'25 JW (Sp Imp)

OD (4,1) 1st Yacoby-Wright’s Ch Cobyco Catch Your Eye. A super attractive cream fawn dog who just screams health and vitality. I judged him as a baby puppy and gave him 2nd in the Puppy Group at South Wales Ch Show in 2023 knew then he was CC material so not surprised he has his crown. So fit and well-muscled and even stood you just know he could ‘fly like wind’. Very appealing head with dark oval eye and alert expression. Strength to his jaw. Long, muscular neck. Well laid shoulders with matching upper arm. Well-developed fore chest, deep brisket and long rib cage. Strong loin of ideal length. Width to his thigh and strength to his second thigh with low hocks. Moves with real drive and with a long low stride in front. Parallel away and back. Would gladly add to his CC tally.

2nd Byron’s Jasarat Gucci. Blue fawn and white parti-colour. Long lead head and alert expression. Long, muscular neck and presents a super top line stood with level back and slight rise over the loin. Impressive fore chest, deep brisket and good length of rib cage. Really appealed for his overall balance stood and impressed on the move in side gait with fabulous low reach in front and drive from his hind quarters. When in full flight can just flatten out a little in top line.

3rd Hambling’s Mossbawnhill Bit Of A Dandy At Chaseover

VD (4,2) Both super fit and pictures of health. They matched each other stride for stride going round the ring. Both with long stride and drive from the rear. 1st Rishworth’s Kierpark With Or Without You. A red brindle with white trim with the most attractive head and alert expression. Really dark oval eyes. Most impressive front quarters. Plenty of fore chest and depth to his brisket. Slight rise over the loin with well angulated hind quarters and low hocks. He obviously has a good appetite and perhaps overindulged at breakfast as just lacks a little definition in loin. Very sound away and back. 2nd Price’s Ch Wheelspin Silver Shadow Among Silkdance JW VW. A worthy champion with a fabulous coat and excellent muscle tone. Pale fawn with white trim who also has such accurate footfall in side gait and so true going away and coming towards. Handsome, long lean head with alert expression. Well-developed forechest with plenty of heart room. Deep brisket and long rib cage with length in his loin. The winner just held his top line better on the move in profile.

MPB (4,2) Fascinated to see these two beauties have the same sire of the Bitch Junior Dog winner and the Bitch CC winner litter mates. I loved these two litter sisters too. 1st Yacoby-Wright’s Cobyco Capture The Moment. Just turned 7 months and a pale fawn and blue brindle puppy of just the right size. She has a short, fine seal skin coat and is in fabulous condition. She is so pretty and ultra feminine. Beautiful long lead head with dark eye and neat rose ears. She makes the perfect silhouette stood and is so balanced throughout. With all angles matching. Parallel away and back and light effortless side gait with long low reach in front, accurate foot fall and drive from behind. Even at such a young age I could easily have justified awarding her a CC today but I was spoilt for choice and had two with a few months more experience under their belts.

2nd Cockwell’s Cobyco Capture The Magik. Another beauty this time the palest cream with white trim. Like her sister she too is so very pretty and has a beautiful head and expression. Super, long elegant neck and beautiful laid shoulders. Top line is typical with slight rise over her loin. Looks so well balanced stood. Slightly longer in loin than her sister. Moves with the same freedom with accurate footfall in side gait. Just moved a little closer behind than her sister. I am sure she too will have a very bright future.

PB (2,0) 1st Morris, Waddell, George & Spademan’s Crosscop Temptation To Supeta. I’ve competed against this beautiful puppy on several occasions and she has always impressed. Pale cream and blue brindle with white trim. Looking like a young adult now and is days from leaving puppyhood. Wouldn’t want her any bigger. She has a fabulous rapport with her handler especially on the move where she is so impressive. Beautiful head and eye with neatest rose ears. So well balanced overall and matching angulation fore and aft. Holds her top line so well stood and on the move. Effortless long, low stride and real drive from her well bent stifles and low hocks. A pleasure to award her the RBCC & BPIB….I have no doubt she will be one of the youngest to gain her Champion title which will be well deserved. Thrilled to see her later become the Puppy Group Winner once again. 2nd Spring’s Treviskey Trojan Princess. I really like this orange brindle puppy. She has a beautiful long lead head and super expression from her dark oval eyes. Very elegant neck and well balanced in body with a text-book top line. Very well angulated fore quarters with fore chest developed and brisket already nice and deep. Well laid shoulders and stands with straight front legs right under her withers. She has well angulated hind quarters too perhaps a little exaggerated in bend of stifle stood but has muscle tone and strength to her second thigh with lovely low hocks. As such on the move she can really drive and has good extension in front. I could see accurate footfall in side gait but moved far too fast going away and coming towards so appeared unsettled. I hope someone will give the owner/handler some ‘handling advice to ensure he shows off his puppy’s many virtues as felt she has potential to win top honours.

JB (7,0)1st Howgate & Hull’s Tervanty Dragon Song At Palmik JW. What an exquisite looking bitch. A perfect size and so elegant. The palest cream seal skin coat with brilliant white trim in tip top condition with just the right muscle tone. So balanced whether stood or on the move. Her head is a joy. Long and lean with dark oval eyes and small neat rose ears which look even more impressive when she is baited and uses them. Such alert expression at the same time the loyal kindness that is the essence of a whippet. Her silhouette is just a series of gentle curve from the slight crest of neck, along her top line over her croup to the carriage of her tail. Despite her young age, she has a well-developed fore chest and deep brisket. Her rib cage is well sprung and of good length. Length of loin to balance with slight rise over. On the move she is light on her feet and covers ground with ease with long low reach and drive from her hind quarters. Very accurate footfall in side gait where she holds her top line and her low set tail follows the line of her hind legs perfectly. Moved with such precision away and back too. Her grace, elegance, size and soundness clinched the BCC against even younger, but very strong competition. 2nd Lewis’ Palmik Raining Glitter To Luckhurst NAF. Interesting to see that this bitch is not only bred by the handler of the BCC winner but also has the same sire as her too !! They make a fabulous pair. Which helps to explain why I have written “very similar silhouette to the winner – lover her”. This is also a beautifully balanced bitch and worthy of top honours. She has a very pretty head and long elegant neck. Level back with slight rise over her loin. Matching angulation fore and aft so has reach in front and matching drive from behind with accurate footfall. Parallel away and back. Just needs her chest to drop a little more and will then trouble the best. 3rd Wood’s Ardencote Justa Dream

YB (7,0) 1st Oliver & Gjetnes Ch Ch Can Am Gch Wunder's Obsession (Can Imp). A very shapely pale fawn brindle with white collar and trim. Beautiful head and expression. Long elegant neck with well laid shoulder blades and good return of upper arm. Chest well developed and deep in brisket. Short in loin and just falls of slightly over the croup when stood. Moves away and back nice and parallel. A little higher on the hock. Accurate foot fall in side gait and moves obvious freedom of movement. 2nd Barnes’ Leathern Thumbs Up For Doddridge. Red brindle with white trim. Lovely long lean head with neat ears and dark eyes. Is an ideal size and very feminine. Really liked her overall balance and has a super top line with slight rise over her loin. Well-developed fore chest and deep in brisket. Well angulated forequarters and good bend of stifle with well let down hocks. Had good reach in front but moving a little closer behind. 3rd Courtney & Wallace Loroli Stoned In Love With Courtbirch

PGB (18,4) 1st Lewis’ Cotherstone Chrysantha To Luckhurst. Golden fawn with white trim and collar. Appealed in this large class for her ideal size, shape and overall balance. Pretty head with long elegant neck. Super top line with level back and slight rise over her loin. Good fore chest with deep brisket and ribs well back. Length of loin just right. Well bent stifles and low hocks sued to create drive with good reach in front. Sound away and back. 2nd Spademan, Mycroft & Higginbottom’s Crosscop Seduction. Another attractive pale cream bitch with a typical outline. Feminine long lean head with alert expression. Long elegant neck. Moved parallel away and back with balanced reach and drive in side profile. Very accurate footfall. Low on her hocks. 3rd Halliday & Croxford’s Aarminias French Fancy At Whittimere JW.

LB (11,1) 1st Spademan & Mycroft Crosscop California Barbie From Supeta JW. A beautiful pale cream bitch who stood out for her typical silhouette and one that will and will always catch your eye. A fabulous alert expression and dark sparkling oval eyes. Presents a really balanced picture both stood and on the move. Flows from the slight arch to her neck to the tip of her tail. Plenty of heart room in her well-developed fore chest and deep brisket. Straight legs set well under her shoulders. Another worthy of green cards.

2nd Salkeld & Graham’s Dalerafenn Follow A Dream JW. Another pretty bitch of an ideal size who has a classic outline with no exaggerations. Golden fawn with white trim and a super short, soft coat. Refined head and dark oval eye. Very balanced throughout with super top line and a perfect slight rise over the loin. Good depth of chest but fore chest not quite as developed as the winner. Showed low reach in front and drive from behind. Moved soundly away and back. 3rd Williams’ Tigsisle Frost And Flame

OB (9,2) 1st Howgate & Hull’s Ch Palmik Truth About Love JW. Out of the same dam as the Bitch CC winner which also makes sense given the overall look of this worthy Champion. Pale cream with white trim, short, soft, clean coat and well-conditioned all over. with a beautiful head and alert expression. Small neat rose ears and dark oval eyes. So well balanced in terms of her body proportions and her front and rear angulation. Had the best rear movement going away in this class with drive and perfectly parallel, coming back towards with straight front legs. In profile she moves with a natural free-flowing action with low reach in front, drive from her low hocks and accurate footfall. Would be a pleasure to award her another CC. 2nd Jones’ Jothryn Manhattan Blonde JW. Litter sister to the RDCC winner and of a similar mould sharing many of the same virtues to him but very much a pretty, feminine version of the same. Pale cream and blue brindle with white trim with such a beautiful head and expression. Loved her size and overall balance. Looks a picture moving in profile with accurate footfall and balanced reach and drive. A close decision but the winner just held her top line a little better stood today and was a little better going away. Very CC worthy. 3rd Johnston & Wilson’s Danluke Don't I Know It JW

Class 1899 VB (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st Spademan, Mycroft & Morris’ Ch Crosscop Let It Shine For Supeta JW OSW. This 8 year old is in the best condition; fit as a flea. A golden fawn with white trim who is still more than CC worthy even in her Veteran years. She can still out-move the best with such a natural long, low side gait and accurate footfall. Still has such drive from her low hocks. Her flowing outline is so typical. She has such a gentle demeanour and has a beautiful head with gorgeous dark ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ eyes. A credit to her owners/breeders and to her handler who she obviously adores. BVIB and delighted to see her take Veteran Group 2. 2nd Taylor’s Willingwisp Moment Of Hope To Musblaiks. Appealed for her size and overall shape. Pretty head and nice oval eyes. Flying her ears which detracted. Long elegant neck. Very well balanced with a typical top line; level back and slight rise over her loin. Moves away positively and is nice and parallel going away and back towards. A little down on her pasterns which I forgave given she is ten years of age. A credit to her owner as she looked a picture of health and was in first class condition. 3rd Williams’ Tigsisle Fan The Flames
