RICHMOND CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW 2025 CHIHUAHUA (SMOOTH COAT)
Having really enjoyed my day with the Long Coat Chihuahuas earlier this year I was equally looking forward to judging the ‘little Smooth ones’ at Richmond. Thank you to the Officers & Committee Members for the opportunity. As with the Long Coats some very exciting youngsters, two beautiful Veteran Bitches and a really impressive Open Bitch Class. I was grateful to my efficient Stewards, John & Robert who helped ensure we kept to time. The weather was thankfully kind after heavy rain early morning. We started at 9am and the grass was a little damp but we were soon blessed with blue sky and sunshine. The ring was of good size but sadly the grass was a little long and we had to avoid a couple of deep ruts and several potholes. That said, most coped really well with the conditions and the principle winners were all able to move at the desired brisk pace and with the spirited, free movement asked for in the standard.
MPD (3,1) Great start to the day with these two litter brothers. Both with lots to admire. Super heads with domed skulls and flared ears. Both with level top lines and thick, medium length, high set tails carried in a super sickle shape. Both impressive on the move with drive from their hocks and good extension in front. Don Juan has beautiful large dark round eyes. His brother’s eyes are lovely and dark but could be a fraction larger. Ay Papi is more compact than his brother which was deciding factor in their placings today. Both sure to have a bright future. 1st SKINNER, Mrs A T Davixity Ay Papi At Mujerosa. 2nd FATHERS, Ms A Davixity Don Juan At Okajem
Class 93 PD (3,1) 1st TAYLOR, Ms Lesley Arkoschi Don't Stop Me Now. I would be lying to say this boy hadn’t already caught my eye having seen him several times in Group competition. It is always exciting to spot ‘special’ examples of any breed from the ringside and exciting to then have the honour of judging them. He impressed even more on close examination. Such a typical breed silhouette both stood and on the move. He walked in the ring with confidence and a bold attitude. Alert from the off with a beautiful head and such a typical expression. Domed skull. Large dark round eyes and perfectly set flared ears. His dentition is perfect with the neatest 6/6 rows of teeth and a scissor bite. He is compact with ribs already well sprung and depth to his brisket. Such a fabulous front with legs set under his chest. Good bend of stifle and matching angulation of hind quarters. Holds his top line level at all times and has a high set, thick, flat tail carried up and over his back in a sickle shaped curve, sickle shaped tail. On the move he is parallel away and back, had plenty of drive and reach in front with accurate footfall. Dog CC, BOB & BPIB. 2nd I sadly had to withhold the 2nd prize as the dog had either an injury or problem with his hind leg and refused or was unable to put any weight on it.
JD (3,0) 1st GENTLE, Mrs Diane Arkoschi Star Gazer. Litter brother to the BOB winner and what an impressive litter this has been. Not quite as bold as his brother but another beautiful puppy for breed type and soundness. He was the most compact in this class being just longer than height at withers. Very typical head with flared ears and large dark round eyes and like his brother a fabulous mouth. Level top line and high set tail carried in slight curve over his back. Sound away and back. I am sure he will do plenty more winning as his confidence grows. 2nd NEATH-COYNE, Mrs S & COYNE, Mr S Jorazan Sox It Toem With Buffrey. A super sound confident youngster who holds his top line well at all times and has a super high set sickle shaped tail. Large dark round eyes and large ears which could be a little more flared. Good bite. Moved with drive from his low hocks and good going away just a little erratic coming towards. Not quite as compact as the winner. 3rd Mrs Malgorzata Anadeia Nallion At Dreamcrewes
YD (4,0) 1st LLAMAS, Mr Lawrence Gibeltarik Parti Kiss. Entered the ring with confidence and a really impressive mover; immediately catches your eye. Loved his head and expression. He has the most beautiful large dark round eyes and large flared ears set just right and framing his domed skull. Clean teeth and perfect scissor bite. Slight arch to his neck. Nice and compact in body with really well sprung ribs and depth to his chest. Tail set high and a perfect sickle but could be a little thicker and flatter for ideal. Slightly taller on the leg. Coat was so soft, short and dense and a picture of health. So sound away and back and a picture in side gait with such accurate footfall. So disappointed to have to give him a smaller green card today as he is totally CC worthy. RDCC. 2nd HICKS, Miss E Xmas Dancer De Petit Roi Mojito At Casiatodo (imp). Loved his attitude and alert expression and of an ideal size. A beautiful head with gorgeous dark eyes and flared ears. Lovely compact body with well sprung ribs. Perfect thick, flat tail carried in correct sickle shape. Level topline stood and on the move. Just prefer slightly longer legs for better overall balance. Moved parallel away and back showing reach and drive in profile. 3rd FOTHERGILL, Mrs D Diamonchi Italian Stallion
ND (2,0) 1st SKINNER, Mrs A T Davixity Ay Papi At Mujerosa. Winner of Minor Puppy class.
PGD (2,0) 1st SUTTON, Mrs B Nikitos Nightclubininsoho. Love his name and brought back a memory or two! Very well balanced. Compact in body with super level top line and fabulous thick flat tail held in slight curve over his back at all times. He has gorgeous eyes; large, dark and round. Domed apple shape skull. His ears are large and set well emphasising his domed skull. Impressive on the move with brisk action and good drive from his low hocks. Despite a ‘joint’ effort he did not want to use his ears today. In no way nervous but just wanted to look at his handler tail wagging but with ears back. 2nd BURROWS, Mrs Amanda Anadeia Eowyn At Lauloura JW. Loved this boy’s head and expression. He has super clean, complete dentition and perfect scissor bite. Compact in body. Lost his top line a little on move. Tail set high carried in a tighter curve over his back. Really sound going away with strong hocks. Not quite as tidy as the winner coming towards.
LD (3,0) 1st SLAVINEC, Mrs Susan Charonchi Ignatius. Really appealed for his size and overall shape. Typical head with large dark round eyes and large flared ears. Clean teeth with full dentition; bite level. Well angulated forequarters with good lay of shoulder. Good bend of stifle to match. Compact in body with level top line and sickle shaped tail. Accurate footfall in side gait but a little close behind going away. 2nd SUTTON, Mrs B Nikitos Nowdontgoaskin. I can see I was a fan of his Champion dam who I awarded the RCC to last time I judged. I can remember her beautiful eyes and expression which she has passed on to her son. Super domed skull. Large ears which could be sit a fraction lower. Perfect scissor bite. Not quite as compact as the winner but holds a level top line and has a perfect tail; high set, thick and carried in a sickle shape. Like the winner he too moves briskly in side gait, has good extension in front but moved away just a little closer than ideal. 3rd SMITH, Mrs H C Chibull Micky Mouse At Lozek.
OD (2,1)1st HALLS, Mrs A Ch Jorazan Quincy Quirky Sox JW. A worth Champion and I would have been happy to add to his CC tally. Loved his size and overall compact shape; beautifully balanced. Impressive head with flared ears, domed skull and large dark round eyes. Teeth are neat, clean and has a scissor bite. Compact in body with well sprung ribs and depth to his chest. Lovely sickle shape tail set high and carried perfectly at all times. Front legs straight and set well under his body. Very good bend of stifle and low hocks. Moved with freedom fore and aft in profile. Clean going away just not quite as accurate coming towards today.
VB (2,0) I was somewhat surprised to read that neither these two impressive 8 year olds hold their Champion titles. 1st HUMPHREYS, Mrs Lee Amarantos Cassini JW. The palest cream nearly white bitch in such fabulous condition. She has such a wonderful temperament and just loves to show off and please her handler. Always alert and demanding attention. Large flared ears and domed skull. Big round eyes which are lighter brown but quite acceptable given she is such a pale cream. She could be a fraction shorter in muzzle but her teeth and bite are all in good order. Slight arch to her neck into well laid shoulder and perfectly straight front legs. Well bent stifles so matching angulation. Tail set high and it is thick and flat and carried in a sickle shape. Absolutely sound as a bell and has real drive from her strong low hocks. Could be a fraction short in loin for ideal. Would happily give her a CC and considered her for the RCC today. BVIB. 2nd WILCOX, Miss Amy Bramerita Talulah Truffle. By contrast to the winner this beautiful golden cream bitch has wonderful pigmentation with the darkest large round eyes and a saucy expression. Ears are large and well flared. She still has full clean dentition and a perfect scissor bite. She is compact on body and in really fit condition with super muscle tone. Well sprung ribs and depth to her chest. Thick flat tail set high and carried perfectly. Moves briskly and with attitude just a little close when going away.
PB (5,0) An interesting class all at very different stages of development. 1st BARKER, Mrs S T Baralicia Mini Maestro. Built on larger lines an mature for her age. Not quite as dainty as I would like but is so beautifully made. She cannot stand wrong. Straight front legs set well under her body with well angulated forequarters and a good bend of stifle with low hocks. She has well sprung ribs and already has a deep chest. Tail is set high and carried in sickle shape. Top line was always level. Super large, flared ears with a domed skull. Large, super dark round eyes and a beautiful expression. 2nd HALLS, Mrs A Jodeschi Sox Appeal At Jorazan. A better sized bitch who was small, dainty and lovely and compact. Holds her level top line stood and on the move. Tail was set high and carried in perfect sickle shape. Very good head proportions with short muzzle and defined stop. Flared ears and domed skull. Super dark round eyes which could be slighty larger. A brisk mover with drive from her low hocks. Juts turns front feet slightly at present which could correct as her chest drops. 3rd GINGER, Ms Joanna Jodeschi Glamour Puss
JB (2,0) Two very promising youngsters. 1st FOTHERGILL, Mrs D Diamonchi La Dolcie Vita. Lots of attitude and personality here. Small and dainty with a compact body and presenting a very balanced overall picture stood and on the move. Pretty head with large dark expressive eyes and big ears which could be set a fraction lower for ideal. Short muzzle, neat dentition and scissor bite. Loved her body proportions; nice and compact. Straight front set under chest. Good turn of stifle. Super tail to balance; nice and thick, sickle shaped and set high. Moved with lots of drive from her low hocks and showed good extension in front. Will have a bright future I am sure. 2nd HOLLISTER, Mrs K Hollichi Designer Baby. I loved her head and expression. Alert and plenty of attitude. Large dark round eyes and super flared ears. Defined stop and short muzzle with clean, neat teeth and scissor bite. Compact in body with high set tail which was thick and flat and carried in desired sickle shape curve. Moved with free action holding her top line nice and level. Parallel away and back. Just a fraction shorter on the leg than ideal.
YB (3,0) 1st DODD, Mrs Helen Anadeia Tauriel. Ozzing confidence and full of life. This pale cream girl benefits from excellent pigmentation giving her the darkest, round eyes and black nose. Her eyes could be a little larger. Fabulous, flared ears and domed skull. Makes a super outline stood and on the move with a compact body and just longer than height at the withers. Tail set high and is thick and flat carried in typical slight curve. Straight front legs and well angulated forequarters. Shows good extension in front and accurate foot fall. Just a little close behind going away. 2nd STEELE, Mrs Y Darnleys Happy Feet. A larger girl all through and lots to like. A little heavier in bone but very sound and well angulated fore and hind quarters. Lovely expression with large dark round eyes. Flared ears and a domed skull. In really good condition and muscle tone. Would like her short in the loin and more compact but still holds her top line level. Super high set tail of the correct length and sickle shape. 3rd HUMPHREYS, Mrs Lee Amarantos Oriana. I thought this was going to be my class winner as they entered the ring and on initial inspection. Such a lovely size and shape. So pretty and dainty with a beautiful head and expression. Sadly not happy today at all and despite handler’s best efforts (and my prayers) she would not put her tail up and was very shy.
NB (1,0) 1st HALLS, Mrs A Jorazan Talia Toffifi Sox. 11 months old and full of confidence with an alert outlook and happy disposition. Appealed for her size, her dainty limbs and the balance of her overall shape. She has a super domed skull and large ears which could be set a fraction lower to create the required flare. Large round paler brown eyes. Fabulous clean complete dentition with perfect scissor bite. Compact in body with high set tail carried in sickle shape curve. Self-assured on the move holding her level top line and creating a lovely overall picture in side gait. Moved away with drive from her low hocks. Just a little exuberant coming towards.
LB (3,0) 1st HOLLISTER, Mrs K Hollichi Ren's Legacy. She makes the perfect silhouette stood and on the move; very eye catching in profile. Small and dainty with the best large flared ears. Dark, round eyes which I would like a fraction larger. Super teeth and scissor bite. Really well constructed with well laid shoulders, straight front legs, a good bend of stifle and low hocks. Really compact in body with well sprung ribs and a deep chest. Tail is thick and flat, set high and carried up and over in slight curve. Moved with accurate footfall and parallel away and back. 2nd WATTS, Mrs Kerry & SUTTON, Mrs Beverley Biankai Ooh La La. A larger bitch in fabulous condition with a super short, soft, glossy coat. Loved her head and expression with large dark round eyes and flare to her large ears. Untidy bite and teeth missing in such a young bitch. Lovely and compact in body with straight front legs and a good bend of stifle. Really well sprung ribs. Shoed good extension in front but lacking a little drive and moved away very close behind.
OB (6,1) What an exciting class to judge. Three beautiful champions headed this class and all well deserving of their titles. I would be proud to award further CC’s to each and every one. A really hair-splitting decision. 1st FAIRBAIRN, Mrs C Ch Tidos Mission Control. There is nothing I would change on the head of this beautiful bitch. Her expression is divine. Her eyes are captivating. Large, round and so dark with extra sparkle. Her head is a perfect ‘apple’ dome and her large ears are set juts right giving flare. Slight arch to her neck, beautifully well laid shoulders with straight front legs set right under her chest. Deep in brisket and short in loin. Spirit level top line and the tail shape I love. Thick, furry and flat in the middle tapering to point and held in a perfect sickle shape at all times. Her silhouette stood on the move typifies the breed standard. She has freedom in side gait with such accurate foot fall. Clean coming towards just a fraction close behind going away. Bitch CC. 2nd FOTHERGILL, Mrs D Ch Diamonchi Miss Beautiful JW. What a little fire-cracker and aptly named. She really is a beautiful petite bitch; so full of life, a charming character with an outgoing personality. You can’t help but smile when you see her stamping her dainty limbs to get her handlers attention. Presents a very balanced overall picture with such a perfect breed standard silhouette. Such a typical head and expression - large dark round eyes and flared ears with fabulous domed skull. Compact body with level back and high set tail held over in a sickle shape curve at all times. Moved with free action in side gait. Moved away parallel with drive from her low hocks but could have been a fraction cleaner coming towards. RCC. 3rd FOTHERGILL, Mrs D Ch Diamonchi Miss Sparkel JW Champion . Another very worthy champion with a fabulous head and expression. Again, presents that typical breed standard silhouette stood and on the move. I was most grateful to have the opportunity to judge these two beautiful Champions as clearly both over-qualified for any other class and hence competing against each other in Open. Thank you to their breeder/owners for the opportunity. They are an absolute credit to you.
