Thank you to the Officers and Committee for giving me this opportunity to judge at their Championship show. It was my first set of CCs for the breed with an entry of 103 dogs. My sincere thanks to the exhibitors for supporting my entry and to my stewards Jenny and Emily. We were indoors with a decent size ring. It was a little muggy/warm which I felt affected some of the dogs. Some did not move as well as I was expecting. As I judged the dogs on the day, they were therefore placed down the line or not at all.

A fit dog with free and easy movement was what I was looking for. Low, strong, straight hocks as this is where the power and drive is in order to do the job. I found this in my winners.

All ridges were correct which was great to see. I found a couple of level bites. Nails need attention on some. Overall fitness and condition of the dogs was good. Temperaments were excellent with a few fidgety/excited youngsters.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,0) two very different puppies

1st Diamondridge Dragon King (Mrs V Champion) – A strong youngster with heavy bone. Well up on height already. Masculine head with depth and strength to muzzle and round eye. Pleasing angulation front and rear. Compact feet good depth to chest for one so young. He was a little bouncy today on the move but did enough to win the class- a happy boy.

2nd Bikquest Helios Sunreacher (Ms N Ellis) – raw youngster, different type to 1st. Presented in excellent coat condition. Pleasing head which will develop with age, with dark round eyes. Moderate length of neck leading into a nice front angulation. Good length of ribbing. Nice firm muscle to rear quarters. A little bum high on the move - which is expected.

Puppy Dog (3,1)

1st Kwanza El Faiyum at Matikiridge (Imp Nld) (Mrs N Hurn) Ample bone on this well-balanced youngster. Super masculine head, flat skull, dark round eyes with depth and strength to muzzle. A great front assembly with well filled chest. Nice run of ribbing leading to his strong loin of correct length. Excellent width of thigh and good turn of stifle with low, straight hocks. Quite a lively youngster today making his handler work hard. However, he did settle enough to win the class. He was more together for the puppy challenge against the puppy bitch which gave him the overall BPIB and he made the cut in a large hound puppy group. One to watch for sure.

2nd Diamondridge Dragon King (Mrs V Champion) as 1st in minor puppy dog

Junior Dog (6,2)

1st Kinyemi Song of Serengeti Sepiwi Sekayi for Msingi (Imp Dnk) (Mr S J & Mrs A R Pearce) – excellent balance with good all-round angulation to this young male who is only just out of puppy. Full of breed type. Super typical Ridgeback head of correct proportions, dark round eye giving a masculine but gentle expression. Great bone and stood on compact feet. Splendid run of ribbing with good depth to chest. Strong loin of correct length leading to powerful rear quarters. Well let down, straight hocks. Movement was sound with a free and easy side gait. Considered for top honours.

2nd Kinabula's Making Magick for Faahac (Mrs C L & Miss M L Catharell) Smaller than first but nonetheless a lovely balanced youngster. Good head of correct proportions with a flat skull and round eyes. Nice neck leading into well placed shoulders with good front angulation. Standing on compact feet. Good ribbing needs to drop in brisket but that will come as he is only young. Excellent rear angulation and he moved out well.

2nd Priorpark William Wallace for Clanbruachan JW (Mrs N Jolly) – Another lovely male who I liked.
