Japanese Akita Inu

Boston & DCS Championship Show

5th July 2025

Firstly, I would sincerely like to thank Boston society for my first championship show appointment for two breeds close to my heart, thankyou also goes to the exhibitors for entering under me. It was a challenging yet memorable day.

Japanese Akita Inu

A fabulous entry for this breed. The head features are what particularly set this breed apart from any other, it was such type that I was looking for and found in my winners.

Class: 2321 – Minor Puppy Dog.

(2,0)

1 – 3832 Tsoyu Wakahiko Go Breezelyn (Pike and Carter)

7 months old, red and white. Strong, masculine head oozing breed type and of good balance to tail. Superb oriental eye set, with dark pigment around the edges. Ears in good proportion to the rest of head, thick and triangular. Straight H like front, tight, cat-like feet, moderately sloping pasterns with moderate front and rear angulation. Topline held well on the move and movement correct when viewed from all angles. Coat a nice deep red with strong pigment, clear urajiro markings – of course still holding his puppy coat at this age. For one so young, he was composed throughout his performance, a confident young male with a handler that gets the best out of him. Well deserving of best male, best opposite sex and BPIB. Pleased to see him shortlisted in the Utility puppy group later that day.

2 – 3825 Ashkari Kanji (Mr N. Fiddes)

7 month, red and white. Nice front on this youngster, straight and in moderation to chest. Broad, flat skull, correct scissor bite and dark brown eye. A nice mover for his age, a little close at present on the rear as to be expected with a juvenile. Confident pup which is great to see at this age. Would prefer tighter feet. Correct urajiro markings of good pigment boasting a nice, thick puppy coat.

Class 2322 - Puppy Dog – No entries

Class 2323 – Junior Dog

(1,0)

1 – 3830 Shogetsu Tora Go Hajimari (Miss I & Miss K Loca & Kardasz)

16 months, silver brindle. Good striping on this young brindle. Good eye shape, correct scissor bite and nice full cheeks - would prefer ears to hold firm on the move. Holds level topline on the move, moves close on rear now but still young. Plenty of bone and substance with enough muscle tone. Best special beginner.

Class 2324 - Post Graduate Dog – No entries

Class 2325 - Limit Dog – No entries

Class 2326 - Open Dog

(3, 2)

1 – 2326 Meiho Kensha Akioshiro Go (Mr E and Mrs N Duffield)

2 years old, red and white. Good movement on this male when viewed from the side and rear. Eye colours correct but would prefer a more oriental set. Ear size and placement are good with defined furrow. Would prefer a more moderate slope on front pasterns and for the forelegs to be straight when viewed from the front. Moderate rear angulation with good muscle tone. Well presented.

Class 2327 – Veteran Dog – (1,1)

Class 2328 – Special Beginners dog

(1,0)

1 – 3830 Shogetsu Tora Go Hajimari (Miss I & Miss K Loca & Kardasz)

(see ‘junior dog’ critique for this male).

Class 2329 – Good citizen Dog Scheme Dog

(1,0)

1 – 3821 Ryuukita Burning Tailsman At Kasaishiro (IKC) (Miss Z R Davis)

2 years red and white. Masculine head, oriental expression, correct eye set and shape, correct muzzle to skull proportion, full cheeks, would prefer a slightly smaller ear. Correct movement and moves well when viewed from all angles. Moderate front and rear angulation complete with tight cat-like feet. Topline held level on the move. Tail and head in balance. Coat showing correct urajiro markings however not in full coat today. Well-muscled throughout. Reserve best dog.

Class 2330 – Minor Puppy Bitch

(2,1)

1 – 3831 Tsoyu Wakamizu Go Anshee (MS S & Miss L M O’Neill Clark & Pearson)

7 months old red and white. Such a feminine young girl. Beautiful head and expression, oriental eye, thick, small, triangular ears which create a lovely view from the side following on from the crest of neck. Good pigment with her urajiro markings. Balanced all over – tail in balance with head, nothing is overdone. Tight cat-like feet. Moderately angulated all over. She has a juvenile front which is expected at such age this cost her for best puppy. A lot to like – one to watch. Best puppy bitch.

Class 2331 – Puppy Bitch

(1,0)

1 – 3818 Matsukita Satomi To Tsoyu (Mr M, Mrs S & Mr P Buckley, Buckley & Chapman)

11 months old red and white. Stunning head and expression which showcases breed type, well defined furrow, oriental eye set correctly, nice to see minimal white above the eye something I would like to see more of across this breed. A very pretty bitch who is well balanced all over. Moves well when viewed from the side and rear but would like to see that chest open as she matures. Lovely coat colour and texture, though not in full coat today, with correct urajiro markings. Moderately angulated on rear and well-balanced leg to chest ratio on the front creating that ‘H’ look.

Class 2332 – Junior Bitch – No entries

Class 2333 – Post Graduate Bitch

(3,1)

1 – 3836 Tsoyu Urakohime Go (Mrs M and Mr P Thompson & Chapman)

3 years old red brindle. Mature bitch with fantastic angulation all round. Correct movement when viewed from all angles, holding topline on the move, head moves forward which allows her to really move to her full potential allowing me to assess her natural gait as she converges toward the centre line. Strong head with plenty of cheek, correct oriental expression complete with thick, triangular ears. Not in full coat today however the stripe of her brindle was still visible. A strong contender for the top awards on the day however I preferred the heads of my best and reserve.

2 – 3834 Kazan No Visis Avec Nosferatu (Mrs T Thomas)

12 months old red and white. Very beautiful young girl. Feminine head and nice oriental expression. Thick, small, triangular ears balancing the head well. Lovely coat shown in excellent condition. Moderate rear angulation however moving a little close at present due to her age, hocks turning neither in nor out. Tight, cat-like feet. She is exactly where I would expect to see her for her age however in this class her immaturity showed which cost her the top spot.

Class 2334 – Limit Bitch

(2,1)

1 – 3825 Kisaki Go Minami Kensha Kyoshi (Imp ITA) (Mrs M and Mr P Thompson and Chapman)

4 years old red and white. Mature girl, the most beautiful, feminine, oriental expression which encapsulates everything the Akita Inu head should. Full, well-developed cheeks, broad, flat skull, distinct furrow, muzzle to skull correct 2 to 3 ratio. Thick neck with good crest when viewed side on. Her quiet confidence is mesmerising; she watches you as you walk around her - as the breed should. She moves effortlessly around the ring, correct movement from all angles. Shown in excellent condition, correct urajiro. Well-muscled throughout. Moderately laid-back shoulder, forelegs straight complete with tight cat-like feet and slightly sloping pasterns. Well developed second thigh, hocks turning neither in nor out. Well-muscled loin and defined tuck up giving an agile appearance. My best of breed winner on the day, pleased to see her later shortlisted in the group.

Class 2335 – Open Bitch

(3,1)

1 – 3819 Matsukita Kitiara Go Tsoyu (Mr M and Mrs S & Mr P Buckley, Buckley and Chapman)

3 years old red and white. Beautiful mature head, when alert ears follow crest of neck. Oriental expression, ears correct size and shape. Tight, cat-like feet. Very well-muscled, particularly on the rear which elevates her movement when assessing from the rear. Tail in balance with head. Tail set high, and of good length. Not in full coat. Moderate front angulation of correct proportions.

2 – 3823 Meiho Kawai Hana Go (Mr E and Mrs N Duffield)

3 years old red and white. Good pace when moving, converging toward the centre line. Would prefer a clearer definition between the red and white to better display the true urajiro markings - particularly on the head, as such features are what determine the breed type. Muzzle to skull ratio correct, ears correct shape, nice and thick. Head and tail in balance, tail set correct. Well developed second thigh. H like front with moderate front angulation.

Class 2336 – Veteran Bitch

(2,0)

1 – 3833 Wendbarry All That Jazz (Mrs J and Mrs A Pike and Carter)

13-year-old brindle. What a showgirl! I could not believe when I was told she was 13, such an elegant girl, agile and light movement. Well balanced throughout. Tail set high. Moderate front angulation with a slight slop on the pasterns. Well defined striping throughout. Would prefer a more oriental head however the overall performance gained her this top spot today.

2 – 3817 Int/Bel Ch Tsoyu Murasaki Go Seijitsu (Miss S Bennett)

8 years old red and white. Fabulous coat, strong red and white urajiro markings. Preferred the head and expression of this girl over 1, good ear placement, defined furrow, correct muzzle to skull ratio with correct scissor bite. Head in balance to tail and tail set high and of good length. Moderate rear and front angulation, though would prefer a more open chest. Tight, cat-like feet with moderate slope on pasterns. I preferred the more agile movement of 1 on the day.

Class 2337 Special Beginners Bitch – No entries

Class 2338 – Good Citizens Dog Scheme Bitch

(2,0)

1 – 3820 Tsyou P’Chinko Go Matsukita (Mr M, Mrs S and Mr P Buckley, Buckley & Chapman)

5 years old red and white. Superb female. Beautiful head and expression, thick triangular ears of balanced size, correct eye set and shape with broad flat skull and defined furrow creating a feminine, oriental expression. Strong, defined, urajiro markings in excellent coat and condition. Excellent front, H like with moderate angulation. Head in balance to tail and tail of good length holding a strong curl. Converged towards the centre line on the move but lost out on best female due to not quite moving at the optimal pace to get the best out of her. Well deserved reserve best bitch.

2 – 3822 Ryuukita Danu At Kasaishiro (Miss Z R Davis)

3 years old white bitch. Good muscle tone throughout. Thick, muscular neck holding a nice crest when viewed from the side. Correct scissor bite, muzzle to skull is of correct 2:3 ratio. Crisp, clean white in colour. Moved well and handler knows how to get the best out of her. Slight slope in pasterns, moderate rear angulation. Preferred the head of 1, would prefer a more oriental head and expression on this mature girl.
